I have a Dell U4025QW and looking to order the Mini M4 Pro.
My work laptop is hooked up via Thunderbolt on the Dell, I would be hooking up the M4 Pro via HDMI - do you happen to know would I get 3840x1620 via HDMI?

5K2K at 120Hz with Mac Mini M4

I have a Dell U4025QW and looking to order the Mini M4 Pro.

Yes same monitor on my end, using DP. Sorry not sure what's going on here.Weird, I don't see that option for HiDPI in SwitchResX
I've got the LG 40WP95C, connected with DisplayPort (but Thunderbolt seems to have the same issue).
UPDATE: Originally was only getting 60hz with Dell supplied Thunderbolt cable. Was traveling, just got home. I had ordered the Apple Thunderbolt cable ($70), along with a couple USB C to Display Port adapter cables to try. Turned on my base Mac Mini M4, still using the supplied Dell Thunderbolt cable, and... all is well! 120hz, 3840x1620 HiDPI confirmed on my Dell U4025QW with Better Display. Maybe it just needed some time away. Some me time.
Not really @Newgoblin49. Meanwhile I got a registry extract from M4 Pro/Max, where the MaxSrcRectWidthForPipe is (6720,7680) - here the first value corresponds to the 3360px limit some Pro users are getting. So all 3072, 3360 and 3840 limits are accounted for and reflected in these framebuffer configuration properties. I think these entries (new to M4 Macs) reflect some aspect of the new logic the system uses to determine scaling limits, depending on various (currently rather hazily known) factors.
@DNRDNI probably has 3840x1620 HiDPI because he is running at 120Hz for which we know this is allowed for some unfathomable reasons.
Note: I see many BD screensots having that "Configure DDC Features..." button glowing happily there - is it not obvious that this is a button should be pressed to configure DDC support for the display?
I probably need to change the UX design for that... 🤣

I probably need to change the UX design for that... 🤣Went to an Apple store today to look at this display issue. Tried both a Studio display with DP, and the guy took a 4K monitor out of the office that had HDMI to test. The monitor from the office was an LG HDR 4K display.
Apple Studio 5K display is totally worth the money.
With the 5K monitor at native res, everything looked great.
With the 4K monitor at native res, it looked odd...HOWEVER...I noticed there was an option to enable HDR. This resulted in almost the same rendering quality as the Apple display, except the small profile picture for Apple ID didn't appear quite as smooth as when displayed on the Studio display.
The LG display at native, on HDMI, with HDR enabled, gave nearly the same smoothing appearance as the Studio.
Other resolutions, both scaled and "low resolution" were present.
Below the native resolution, the first listed resolution was scaled, with a scale factor approximately 0.62.
I compared with MBP 16", and the Studio and MBP 16" had the same quality. We also tried the 4K display on the MBP, and got the same results as the Mini.
Both systems had the base M4 and M4 Pro processor. We didn't try the Max MBP as we figured it would be the same.

Received my Dell U4025QW today and can confirm it works at 3840x1620 HiDPI with my base Mac Mini M4 with 120 Hz (and optionally VRR 48-120Hz)!

People don't seem to be reading what I wrote here. I tested this extensively in-store, and it is the display that is causing these artifacts, not the Mac.
So I've not really been tracking this that closely, but does this then indicate that the base M4 has a maximum framebuffer width of at least 7680 to be able to do 3840 HiDPI?
waydabber's #250 reply seems to suggest this is the case. The problem now is why so far only this 5k2k display can trigger it.
I read your post, but assumed you had misposted in the wrong thread since you tried 4K and 5K displays in the Apple Store but not a 5k2k (5120x2160) monitor. This thread is mostly about a lack of certain desirable HiDPI resolutions (especially 3840x1620) in the macOS display settings. Text and other screen elements are either too big or too small in the available modes.
I have the studio display current paired up with my MacBook M3 Pro under display resolutions I see scaling options where there are 2 more options to the right after default (2560x1440) giving more screen estate.
I usually run it on the smallest setting without using the option key to go even smaller.
I went to the Apple Store today to have a look at the Mac mini and i notice when connected to a studio display there’s only 1 more space option to the right of the default scaling.
Is there a reason for this?

M4 Max 14" (previously had M1 Max 14") and can confirm that my LG 40wp95c cannot display 3840 x 2160 anymore. The available options in settings are now crappy
I just got a call from support. Engineering has closed the case without providing a resolution. They noted in the ticket to keep the software up to date, which could mean a fix is near or maybe not. I'm unsure at this point. I'll hold on to the Mac Mini until the new year, and if there's still no fix, I'll return it.
