Would you upgrade if those were the only improvements?

I have a launch day iPhone 4 so I'll definitely be upgrading. Canada only has 3 year contracts so I cant even complain about being stuck in the "S" cycle. I'm stuck in the Canadian telecom cycle. :(

Tell me about it. I got an end of cycle 4 on an amazing plan. But that means I'm on this phone until the next next iPhone.

I plan on upgrading simply because I can. No real reason, but have an open line, have the money so why not? This makes me an apple fanboy?

I upgrade every cycle so no need to stop that trend with the 5s. IF apple decided the low cost phone was the only one coming out then no thanks but a faster phone with more under the hood is enough of a reason.

Why upgrade to that one when you can get like 5 iPhone (C)heaps?

Significantly better battery life would get me to upgrade. Other than that, I'll just keep my 5 at least until mid-Spring 2014 when they can be found on Craigslist for $200-300 below retail.

I too want really good battery life. My wife loves her iPhone 5 but I need a little more juice to last me as I'm on my phone a lot more than her mainly cause I use it for work. I'm hoping the A7 in the iPhone 5s is far more efficient along with a bigger battery to pull this off.

Nope, won't buy. Honestly since I'm unsubsidized at this point I don't think there is anything Apple could go this year to get me to buy the 5S. For full price I'll be waiting on the completely new models and am heavily interested in the plastic versions.

Just giving my 2 cents. The same thing happens EVERY year. We knew we were getting a 4S and not an iPhone 5 back in 2011. We had physical tangible leaks of the 4S. Those images of a tapered iPhone and those Chinese cases? They were all DIGITAL RENDERS.

We have PHYSICAL leaks of the 5S.

3GS = Speed
4S = Siri
5S = Security

The major difference will be the fingerprint scanner. It's not rocket science. They bought Authentech. They're promoting Activation Lock heavily. Now we see the biometric folder in the iOS 7 system.

A lot of rumors aren't true, but come on... Apple is not that hard to follow.

I personally will continue to say that it's a fact that the 5S will look like the iPhone 5, have dual flash, 12MP camera, fingerprint sensor, be faster and a plastic back iPhone will release alongside of it. That stuff is a NO BRAINER.

Yep you notice I said the same thing about Apple. None of the pictures of the iPhone 5 were real. We got an iPhone 4S. Now I am so glad that you think the fingerprint scanner is a sure thing. I am not going to get into the reasons I don't think it will happen this year. When an Apple fan gets something in their head it is impossible to tell them anything else. If this thing is as life changing as you guys make it out to be. Then I sure hope you get it in the next few months. I for one could care less about a fingerprint scanner, and will wait on something worth upgrading for.

I could couldn't care less about the fingerprint feature, but at this point I am 100% certain it will happen. They bought the company a while ago and it's been said that there have been manufacturing issues because of it.

When NFC was rumored to be in the 4S/5 that was up in the air.

I'm not worried about security so to me it doesn't matter if we get it or not, but I'm positive we'll get it in the 5S.

Ok well good I am glad you can be so sure.

Over the past year since I've switched to Android I've had an S3, and 4, as well as a Nexus 4. The only phone of the 3 that was close to the iPhone experience is the Nexus 4. With that being said I'll promptly be finding my way back to the iPhone as soon as the 5S is released. The iPhone might not have all of the bells, and whistles that some of the newer Android phones have, but it seems to be far more reliable!

You can't negate ALL of the iPhones history of the S model NEVER having "additional" hardware then say its a no brainer.

I'm not saying either one way or the other. Just pointing out the obvious from actually historic "facts". Which to me personally holds more weight.

Also its very obvious a lot of people here don't know the definition of "biometric".

People need to start realizing that high megapixels on such a small sensor isn't always great. More MP doesn't mean better but it sure sounds good when you're working towards that wiener match with your android buddies.

As for the rest, I wouldn't mind an LTE phone these days for sure. The rest, I don't really care about. I think the 5 is nice and fast.

Could not agree more, but what we have to remember is that logic does not come into play with these people. When people think Apple is going to do something they jump on it not matter what it is. To them it is the greatest thing to happen to Apple in 7 years. If I have learned one thing from being on this forum. It is that unless Apple does using something then it is garbage. The minute Apple does something it is amazing, and you better not say anything differently. If you don't believe it don't even bother posting. You will have 50 quotes of your post telling you how wrong you are. Sorry, but I don't believe android or Apple has everything perfect.

I only said biometric because that's what the folder said. Don't shoot me.

History repeats itself though which is why I believe that this phone will have the fingerprint sensor.

We'll see in September.

If history repeats its self we won't have a fingerprint scanner. It would require some big changes from the 5 to have a fingerprint scanner on it. History says we get an upgraded 5 not a new phone.

But wait. If history repeats itself then it won't have a fingerprint scanner. Just upgrades to the internal hardware.

The S models have never got anything "added" hardware wise. Just a spec bump, better CPU, better camera, better radio. And a piece of exclusive software to entice an upgrade.

I agree though its silly to even debate it. However one of us should come back here in September for "I told you so!" Lol.

This does remind me of the name iPhone 6 rumors (because it was the 6th gen) that blew my mind. People constantly over estimate these tech companies. What has come out over the last few years that's actually been exciting? Even Google Glass has me yawning, we expect too much.

Still with my ancient iPhone 4 which didn't turn on the other day and I thought it was dead. Worried that it'll cut out totally soon so definitely on the band wagon for a 5S! Can't wait for September!

Technically speaking, a better CPU, better camera, and spec bumps are hardware related lol. I mean, they are internal things but still.

The S phones usually have something that the previous phones can't get. Siri, Video Recording and now this Fingerprint Sensor. You're right though. The sensor is definitely considered hardware, but I still think it's gonna happen.

I try not to overestimate the companies because they haven't been really doing anything that blows my mind. I try to be realistic, based off what Apple has done in the past. The sensor does notttt seem far fetched though.

I'm gonna bookmark this thread haha.

Lets say those are the only real improvements for the 5s:
- Dual LED flash (I use my iPhone camera often, but not enough in dark light to justify upgrading.)
- 12mp camera (Same as above. While I use the camera a lot I don't need more MP. It doesn't make photos better, composition does.)
- Fingerprint sensor (Unless this drastically changes how you can use the iPhone it's just a nice-to-have feature.)
- New processor (Not worth upgrading just for an app can open .0005 seconds faster.)
- LTE-A (although almost no carriers support this yet) (This is based on carrier, signal strength and how much faster it really is.)

Will you use your upgrade on it?

Or would you feel it's basically a worthless upgrade?

Comments in bold.

Well yes it's hardware related but its not additional. CPU, camera, radio, etc were upgraded from previous versions.

And I think the additional software being exclusive to newer iOS devices due to hardware is mostly a guise. But that's for another thread.

Lol, I look forward to seeing you back here in the Fall though.

I think we all just need to cool it on our judgements about the biometric scanner until Apple actually releases it. Usually when Apple does something, they do it right (Maps aside).

I'll admit, the rumor has me underwhelmed but we'll see what transpires!

I'll give my fingerprint to the government when arrested, thank you. The gov have to do some work. Apple's notion one screen size (small, tiny) fits all eyesight is to short sighted. We had a good run. iPhone 5 the last of a good fruit.
