This isn't a new issue with the accelerometer. Has the issue been rectified? NO. Has Apple done anything to remedy this? NO.

A simple google search will show this!
Just type "accelerometer is not accurate on iphone"

That google search didn't turn up much. And what did come up was mostly iP4. So Apple didn't remedy it because it was rare. This is what you call research?

The 5s has a new M7 chip (or dedicated subsection of the A7) responsible for motion detection, that no previous iPhone has. The initial unscientific reports on this issue is that it affects a high percentage of the 5s's.

So, you playing this issue down based on no personal experience and a weak google search is pure trolling.

May be a software issue. A 4 degree tilt is too significant for it to be hardware only.

Please show me a significant number of people/site/thread with the iPhone 5 having accelerometer issues. I spend far too much time on the boards and have never seen a single person with an issue relating to the accelerometer.

Not that it matters, but this is an issue with the 5s. The 5s is a new phone. Apple are only NOW aware of it with the 5s. I couldn't care about previous-generation phones.

Read and believe what you want. If your phone is defective then return it, but I can guarantee Apple will not announce this as an issue. Just because you hate hearing the truth doesn't mean I'm not contributing to the discussion. I'm just trying to prepare you for a psychological battle you won't win with Apple. And yes, you can be banned for threats and even using the word "troll/trolling".

Can confirm issue here. 5 degrees on back, 4 degrees on non-button side. 5S iOS 7.0.1.

Has it been established yet if anyone with a 5S doesn't have the issue?

There has been one person in this thread with 0 degrees lying on its back. I don't know about his phone on its side, though...

-2° on its side and -3° flat here.

I'll have my dad test his iPhone 5 sometime soon. My old 4S is no longer with me.

It probably won't affect my usage if it's that small of a difference, I hope. The few accelerometer based apps I use have calibration.

I'm a perfectionist though so I wish it was 0°. but I guess a tradeoff is that I don't have the screen interlacing issue that many people have with their 4" iPhones.

Out of interest I downloaded an app that uses JUST the gyroscope. Here're my results. The first one is with the phone flat, the other on its side. Disregard the yaw. Pitch and roll should be at 0° for the first pic and pitch should be at 0° and roll at 90° for the second pic to be technically fully level.

They may be using updated accelerometers that don't play nice with the current software or auto-calibration.

This thread is making me laugh...

1) 1-4 degrees off is not noticeable by anybody here. Anybody who says they can detect that is disregarded.
2) when people complaining about their results and post pictures of their phone in a case as proof, I immediately disregard them. Not only are the manufacturing tolerances of cases horrible, but the application of the case to the phone could throw your numbers off by more than 5 degrees.
3) when anyone says that their flat surface is a table, floor, wall, book, or nightstand, these posts are disregarded as well.

After throwing out all of the posts that relate to the three points above, this post contains absolutely zero issues related to the iPhone...

Well there's quite a range of results going on here. It does seem like *most* people are at -4 degrees when on its side (the position most likely for apps/games).

Ok how about this....

iPhone 5S far left, IPhone 5 middle, iPhone 5 far Right.

And what is even more odd is this lol. Don't trust your compass for navigation...

Gryo drift?

If I place my 5s on the table, it shows -6.

If I "touch" to zero it, it turns green and shows 0. But if I leave it laying there for about 20 seconds, it changes to red and -1. Another 20 seconds, it changes to -2. And so forth. It just keeps getting further and further off.

This "drift" only happens when I zero it out. If I just start the app and lay it on the table, it shows -6 and stays at -6 forever. But if I zero it, then leave it laying there, it starts drifting about 3 degrees per minute.

Anyone else's 5S doing that?
