people chill. easily resolved with software

Not necessarily… If they were all off by the same amount, I'd agree. It *mighty* be possible for Apple to arrange some kind of individual software fix, - even as simply as letting us bring our phones in for a calibration at the Genius Bar.

Sorry I didn't read every post in this thread, just a couple few. So this would cause problems in what? Games and other apps right?

Correct. It totally screws with everything that uses the accelerometer.

Here's a picture of 3 iPhone 5s units at the Apple Store, Bellevue WA. You can see they're all off. The iPhone 5 unit belongs to the Apple employee Nick, who generously let me use his iPhone 5 in this experiment. I had to dangle them somewhat off the edge of the desk since the theft-prevention connection was on the back of the unit.

In any case, every single iPhone 5s was "faulty."

:(

And here's a picture of the 5c. All of them were reading -1 degree, which is with tolerances.

I also tested a few 4s devices, and they were all at 0 degrees.

I'm pretty convinced this is a very widespread issue, sadly. :(

what was the measurements for when it was on the side measuring level?

Darn, I guess I won't be surveying with my iPhone 5S novelty compass. What to do, what to do?

Whatever, stop looking for problems and every slight imperfection and just enjoy your new phone.

Yeah, because as we all know that Apple has been able to thoroughly investigate the issue 2 business days after release .

You have no idea what your talking about and with every post you embarrass yourself further. Take a cue and leave please.

If all of the phones were consistently off they could do an update, but they aren't. The only thing apple can do is provide a calibration tool, but since they consider this a non-issue (do your research) they haven't. (I'm in the surveying/GPS field, so I do know a little).

You're not in the accelerometer field, though. And this is nothing to do with the compass, as has been stated many times in this thread.

Just checking in... got my 5s today, -4 on a flat surface, as well.

Thank you for the contribution. The more people check in here, the more likely we'll get Apple to address it. I suggest people log a call with AppleCare, too, as I have.

Stop saying "do your research" and declaring you know what Apple's final position on this is. The 5s has been out for 4 days.

Apple wants the iPhone to be a successful gaming platform. If this hinders gaming, I believe they'll attempt to fix it.

How about contributing. What does your 5s read? Have you game'd on it and did it feel ok?

This has been discussed at length throughout this thread. Where has Apple considered this a 'non issue' ?

The only one who hasn't done their research is you.

LOL, Accelerometer field? Good luck with this battle. I'd return it to an APPLE store ASAP.

He doesn't have his yet. He's playing just playing internet mall cop while he waits.

This isn't a new issue with the accelerometer. Has the issue been rectified? NO. Has Apple done anything to remedy this? NO.

A simple google search will show this!
Just type "accelerometer is not accurate on iphone"
