Carrier 5S order through AT&T not shipping until 10/21?

Haven't even gotten my second email yet. Gah.
Oh well. I'll try to look at this as making it just that much longer that I have to look forward to getting the new phone, like an extended Christmas Eve of sorts.
Dunno how successful I'll actually BE at employing that approach, but I'll give it a go.

I finally just walked into an Apple store and purchased it outright. It took an act of congress to get AT&T to cancel my order, but I got them to cancel it. Never again will I order through AT&T.
Same experience as everyone else. I received my order confirmation at 11:57 PDT (noticed the site came back early). Current ship estimate is 10/21-10/30.
EDIT: Just noticed my order has been updated. Still says processing but now shows an "updated ship date" of 10/1-10/10.
It seems the lesson here is "they ship when they ship, we get them when we get them."

Last year I had my iPhone 5 in hand on launch day and my order still said it hadn't shipped yet (the one from AT&T...I didn't reorder elsewhere). My wife's ordered at the same time, had shipping information the whole time. Their system is totally screwed.
We ended up figuring out a way to see if you were backordered or not based upon a 0 or a 1 in some column. Search for the thread on here (or in my history).

I believe something like that happened to me with the 4S. I remember it showing up the afternoon of launch day, and it still didn't say shipped or something like that.
Conversely, with the iPhone 4 I ordered through Apple and got it the day BEFORE launch. The AT&T was pretty shocked when I walked in to swap IMEIs in the system. Pretty sure Apple now makes the carriers hold them.
Early this morning it was 10/20 - 10/30, then changed to 10/01 - 10/10.
The order status site still show preparing to ship but FedEx site also has the information.
On AT&T status for GOLD 32GB I'm still at 10/21.
Here's hoping for something at least a week earlier. My 4S can't hold on for much longer! Lol.

Can i ask what your weight says for the package. I am trying to determine if only 1 of my phones shipped or both
I might get lucky and be getting both phones cause mine says 3lbs but they could also be just picking a weight
