You're not missing anything either.
We have 2 iPad4's and the retina display is a gimic and requires you have the iPad 6 inches or less from your face to really tell.
Also, the iPad4 crashes just as frequently as our iPad1's just having multiple tabs open in Safari or opening one webpage that has a lot of content.

Just glad people were willing to pay $350 for an iPad1 during the Christmas season to subsidize our upgrade. :)

Posts like yours are interesting to me. They show me how differently people can perceive the same thing. The retina display, to my eye, is worlds better. No comparison.

I'm not even saying you're wrong. We just have different tastes. It's part of why the general public is so hard to please as a whole.

Also noteworthy though, is the extreme speed difference, the OS support, app compatibility, the cameras, the size difference and lightening adapter to name a few things.

To me the difference between 1 and 4 is similar to the difference between the original iphone and the iphone 4 perhaps (maybe 5th gen ipad would be that leap to iphone 5). That is to say, there's a huge difference between ipad 1 and 4.

Though again, it is subjective I suppose.

If it is light, you need less leverage, and you thumb does not need to extend across the front plane quite so far. My guess is that Apple takes this factor into account, which is why they used the ugly thick bezel on all the obsolete versions.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Apple products are magical.

I dunno. Even if it was lighter, holding it with half a thumb would be awkward to me. Not a player on the mini since I can fit my whole hand around it.

I understand that Macrumors makes its money from clicks.
But please:
Let us have a filter against articles based on trolling-times! Their track record is 99-1. They just make up stuff.

Yeah, but SO many news outlets post whatever they want about Apple releases and present them as facts. The difference is Macrumours, true to their name, reminds us these are rumours and often points out the track record of the source.

This rumour though, seems self evident. If the 5 was launching at the end of april as many mainstream news outlets have confidently stated, then where are the leaks? Where is the supply chain data? It's next to impossible to silently ramp up a product you have to make 10's of millions of, prior to announcing. That said, the Fall launch seems like a natural fit. I'd bet on an October release based on current solid info. A lot can change with every news cycle though, tomorrow might prove me wrong.

You are very kind. I think that the retina display makes a big difference and if it doesn't to your eyes, you need some glasses ASAP.

Seriously.

And to state flatly that it doesn't make a difference in the way he did is just flame bait, trollish behavior. IMHO.

Ditto on that!!!

I don't want 2 iPad's, an iPhone and iPod's released in the fall. Only so much money to go around and I'm more likely to get multiple products if their release is staggered throughout the year. New iPad in the spring and a new iPhone in the fall.

I know Apple certainly knows better than I do. But I can't imagine it makes smart business sense to release their entire lineup in 1-2 sittings weeks apart. This does 1 of 2 things. Makes everyone that got new Apple gear for Christmas feel good about not being "1 upped" only months later. And it helps Apple have one monstrous Holiday quarter. But what about the rest of the year?

mmm..i see an Ipad 5 and mini 2 for next fall, maybe the end of October.
Hopefully for that period A7 will be announced (and available in the early 2014..even if 2-4 months to wait are really a lot...,i mean from late October to late February),this if the rumors about the tape out are (June..Summer ,i don't remember exactly)real, maybe A7 is already in production...i hope so.
I mean A7 and Ios7 would match perfectly^^.

wish they would fit MBP style front facing speakers...

Would be a nice feature to differentiate full-size from the mini, nicer stereo front-facing speakers.

But they would have to add some kind of gap of some kind to the surface if they wanted to do that.

Maybe, but the guy states he has/likes ipads...I think some people's usage is so sparing and tastes so forgiving that they don't really see it how we do.

The iPad 4 November launch was clearly to get the core phone and tablet products on the new connector, nothing more.

New processor? I don't know... I wish that they had just left it as the old processor and made it just an update to the 3rd gen...

If mini will just sport an A5 and Retina and the same 512 MB,i'll skip it.
If it will sport an A6 ,1GB i could buy it even without any Retina at all.

Yes. Enough speed and RAM so it will run well with the next few versions of iOS. Updated OS's usually seem to need more resources.

Its gonna be really tricky for people to decide which unit to buy once the full sized iPad goes on a diet. Maybe Apple need to put more differentiation between the two ranges by increasing the size of the iPad screen (perhaps 12") or reducing the price of the mini further. I'd also like to see Micro SD card slots ... but we all know that'll never happen!

I think Apple is being smart. Yes not much going on yet this year but that is a good thing. Instead of rushing products out they are taking time and making sure it is good before pushing out new stuff.

It is not an "either / or" situation - Apple need to pick up the pace AND have ultra quality products / introductions. Otherwise, SAMSUNG will be firing on all cylinders and grow as a competitor.

The consumer electronics refresh cycle is much faster. When Apple had a monopoly on the smart phone they could refresh as they wanted. Now there are many more options for consumers. So Apple needs to really pick up the pace of innovative features or slug it out in the refresh arena. The iPhone 5 is still primo IMO, but don't drag it out..... Ditto iPad mini.

Really looking forward to this! It looks so sexy! I'd definitely replace my iPad mini with it. I like the 7.9" form factor, but I'd rather have the screen estate of the full sized one. I just don't like how unnecessarily big and bulky (IMO) it is in its current form. Can't wait for it to take on the new form factor though!

active stylus support in the next ipad?

OK I know this is a long shot but I see a lot of comments about how there is nothing left for apple to do to the iPad except thinner, lighter, faster etc.

Maybe (highly unlikely) apple will give us the option of active stylus support in the iPad 5. Both Samsung and Microsoft have have this on major tablet products and while I am not in love with the surface pro or Note 10.1 i tried the styluses on display models and it is sooo much better than the capacitive stylus i own now.

I think that in the event that retina comes to the ipad mini, active stylus support could be a great way to upsell people to the larger ipad 5.

I know not everyone would care to use a stylus with their ipad but it would be a really nice additional feature for those that do.

Look at it this way. I've never laid eyes on a retina iPad, nor played with a newer one to be wowed by either the display or faster speeds. So, the iPad 2 works wonders for me.

Even with the jump from the 3GS to the 4/4S, the only benefit I get out of the retina display is text is a bit crisper, but I got along just fine with the 3GS.

I guess if you're not constantly drooling over the latest and greatest, you get by just fine.
