My daughter's phone started freezing, geting hot and shutting down So i sent it in and the result is a broken camera glass and black stuff oozing. Not sure how it happened as it was in a cover and well looked after. Does anyone else have a similar situation? Repairs will cost 410€. No apple care. Seems like something burned.

Need some more information here. Did the broken camera happened during transit when it was being sent to Apple? Or when it was sent back to you? It almost looks like ink from a pen splattered Over the camera module area.

Sounds like it overheated, maybe while in transit, melting any gasket material and destroying the phone. This should be replaced under warranty. Not sure how the user could be blamed for this.

Should be covered under the 1-year warranty. Explain to the apple guy, how is this a user resulted problem.
Hi there, the reply I received from the Service center is that the damage is not covered under the warranty. I guess they are saying it is dmage we caused. My daughter says the phone started playing up as soon as she got it but she didnt think anything of it.
[doublepost=1516296262][/doublepost]
The damage happened AFTER you sent it in or before?
I sent it off last week and it looked like normal iphone should. I could not see any damage to the camera and there was nothing black on the phone from the outside. I am assuming when they opened it they found that on the inside. The phone was taking pictures fine, we didnt even suspect the camera. we thought there must be something with the mechanics, due to it freezing alot, geting hot and then shutting down.

Looks like makeup from her purse had it's way with her phone to me.

There is no black stuff in the iPhone that could leak out like this.
She has no makeup purse and if it anything leaked onto the phone then we would have seen it.

As a WAG, do you suppose that there are adhesives that could liquify at high temperatures? It seems unlikely because you'd think that adhesives would be selected that would soften but not actually liquify when warmed. If a really hot SoC could make adhesives run out of the phone, you'd think there would be more reports of that here.

They gave you no other explanation for denying a warranty claim?
No other explantaion except that the housing is mechanically damaged.
[doublepost=1516296652][/doublepost]All it says is thatthe housing was mechanically damaged after a phone call he says they found the black stuff on the phone im assuming it is the inside when they opened it and the camera glass is broken

Black stuff oozing? Something is not being told correctly here. @anica39, please explain how it went from freezing to hot?
The phone would freeze for no apparent reason, it also got hot to the touch.

The casing isn't open in the pic. So if it wasn't like that when you shipped it then it happened in transit or Apple is lying.

When i sent it off it was well packaged in bubble wrap, so not sure. Will know more tomorrow when I call back. Im not sure if this pic is the inside of the phone or outside.

It makes no sense. Freezing or getting cold means the phone lost all its energy/heat. The only way for that to happen is if you put it in a freezer or the iPhone has become a cryogenerator.

I can believe becoming too hot to the touch as that's when the CPU is going full capacity and producing heat.

Freezing does not mean getting cold. It means it is unresponsive and stops working.

Not sure what the issue, I assumed my daughter was using it alot, so i used it for a couple of days and i found that even when i was not on it lying on desk it was hot. So not sure what it is all about. The phone casing had no black stuff on the casing when i sent it off, so i need to check back the Service center.

At this point its best to have it serviced. Without knowing what it is, its not wise to try to troubleshoot it yourself.

Nah i took it in and they checked the battery and they said it was working 99,9%. so seeing this picture was confusing. It looks like the outside of the phone.

It still looks like the black stuff is from external source. The gasket for the camera cover could not have left that much mess. This is quite strange and I would still have bet it was like eye makeup or a leaked pen but the OP insists that it was not there when shipped but was returned that way. There is nothing inside the iPhone that is that black, even the battery guts do not look that black.

A mystery that I hope the OP will come back and help solve!

This is what it looked like a day or so before it got shipped off.
