I would get a 64 gb as well. You may not need alot of capacity right now, but who knows in the next 3 years, right? If it's a gift, then why not, you might start ripping dvd's and using handbrake to upload it to the touch, in which case you'll use up all 64 gb like I did.

citizenal is right. I got an 8GB in summer 2009. I figured I only have like 500 songs and a TV show to put on it, so I'd save my money and not get a 16GB. That was a mistake. I didn't realize apps were so big, or that it isn't an 8GB at all. It has a 6GB drive, PLUS the OS and included apps. I now have about 7MB free on my iPod, and I will probably get an email with the next minute, filling up the last byte. My point is, you can always have unused space, but you can't fill the same space twice at once. When I upgrade to a 4th generation, I will be getting a 64GB. I think it's worth the extra hundred (and I'm 13, and make $400/year if I'm lucky). But it's even more worth it to you, because it's free!

The 32GB is a really manageable size, especially if you don't have that much music and movies to begin with. I have a 32GB, and I have a 10,000 song music collection. I don't have everything on it obviously, but I have a handful of songs off of all my favorite albums. I have 1650 songs in total on it. I have 81 apps, 2 full length movies, 1 TV show episode, and another 37 videos I've taken personally. And I still have a little over 10GB free. So based on your needs, 32GB is a good choice. Like many have pointed out, and like it seems you have decided already, it's a great idea to use that money saved on a good case, and maybe a better pair of headphones. The case might cost as much as $30+tax, though you can get good ones (like the Belkin Grip Vue for $19.99 on sale at Best Buy right now).

For what you're describing, you can buy the 8GB and have room to spare. 50 Songs is nothing, that's like 150MB only. Most apps are less than 5MB, there's a few RPGs that can take up to 300, but that's only a few. The only time I would consider a 32 is if you had over 800 songs, and even then you can get away with an 8GB and 4-5 pages of Apps. Oh and by the way, you won't get any discount because your Aunt is a professor at a college. Authorized Mac Resellers get the same discounts as you would get on the Education store online, which has no discounts on the newest iPod Touch (usually only helps with new Mac purchases).

Get the 64 gig unit

Get the 64 gig Touch :D Your parents are forking over for it so get the big one. It is kind of handy to have that much space when you are loading TV shows into it. When I purchased mine, a 2G 16gig I figured the screen was to small to watch TV and Movies with but it turns out it works just fine the only problem I have is with subtitles the scroll across the bottom is just to small to read. I load mine with my favorite documentary shows from the UK, Time Team, The Sky at Night, and various stuff from BBC4 and watch it in bed. Holding the Touch 6 inches or so from my eye balls works great.

Any chance of weedling your parents into an iPad ;)

...from 32 to 64Gb of storage is only $100... you can only get your gift once... $100 for double the storage is the smart move = otherwise your stuck with selling and re-buying the iPod again to increase the storage in the future...

Good luck with your decision.

If your parents are rich, get the 64gig. Otherwise get the 8. I have an 8gig, it's completely fine. I keep ~10 albums on it at any one time, and switch them as I get bored of them. I have like 4 screens of Apps, and still have plenty of room to take HD video clips. Just sync it when you get home. I have 4gigs free at the moment.

Yup. If you're only looking at holding 50 Songs you can get a 1gig if they had it. Even with a few pages of apps and videos you'll still have enough room to hold everything you need to with the 8gig.

Go for 32gb, additional 32gb are not worth 100$!

Au contrari mon frair! (pardon my French).

If one has money to spare, get the 64GB.

What you do not use for your i-Library you can use for other files, including installers of apps for Mac/PC too.

Once you decide on a size, you cannot change it.

Ans when you consider a 32GB USB drive is about $60~70, $100 ,more for 64 is not bad price.

What other files? Several Versions of Windows starting with win 3.1 including all the service-Packs? Sorry but that sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

Stop confusing her. 32GB is more than a 13 yo girl will ever be able to fill!

I'm not trying to be rude, so sorry if I sound that way.

I really don't think you have any right to say that my aunt can't get me a discount. She could get me up to 40 dollars off depending on the price.

She works at the University Of Cincinnati and is a professor. Most of the school's employees buy Mac's, and they are on a high demand from the college. She has been buying laptops from them for a few years, and is planning to get a new one soon.

He and I both have the right to say you won't get a discount. Educators like my mother get the same discount, available for work-related expenses, e.g. NOT iPods. Don't believe me? Here's the higher education store price list. You're looking for page 9.

He definitely has the right to say that, it's called freedom of speech. As far as I know, she probably won't get any discount. The discounts are usually reserved for buying in bulk for school related purposed (laptops, desktops, not ipods).

She's gotten discounts before for an iPod. She got a discount for her Nano, to be exact.

Hahaha, If I were you I would take advantage of getting a 64GB even if I don't need all the storage, because maybe in a year or so you will probably run out of storage on a 32 gig.

I don't really think that I would. My other friend has a 16 GBs, and she's only used about 12 or 13 GBs. They don't sell 16 GBs in the new model, which is the one my parents will be getting. I originally was planning on the 16.

$350, free shipping, no tax. My boss sells a lot on Amazon, so I got a great deal through him.
That's pretty good. :)

Will be getting?

I say get the 32Gb... I had a 8Gb iPod until I sold it for the newer 32Gb because I ran out of space on my old one. ]: But 64Gb would be a waste... Especially if you're not even using half of that space.

my motto is bigger the better. you can't add space later, so if you can swing it, get the 64GB.

If you can find an open item ipod, sometimes it is worth getting.
I had a $40 coupon from my reward zone points (lotsa birthdays racked up quick), and found an open item.
I ended up paying the same as a 8gb one as for the 32 gb.
They knocked off $30 for open item, and the $40 coupon.
It is sweet! I love a bargain!

Anyhow, the 32gb is worth it, better in space (had 8gb devices, filled up quick) and I only have about 7gb of music, so the rest is for apps/vids/data.

The thought also is that if you are not getting a new one very often, then the ability to grow into it's capacity is another thought, but that is just me. :)

????

I can not believe the advice being given here. If you can get any size of Touch why not get the 64 gig version. It would be different if the Touch was like so many MP3 players that you can add flash card memory to it. Yes 32 is a lot but for just 100 dollars more you can double that, since it is a gift go for the larger capacity so what if it isn't filled up. Is is a crime to have unused space on a flash drive? :)

I have somewhere around 3.5 terabytes of music and videos there is not an MP3 player made that even is in the same universe as what I have available. In my case maybe a smaller one would make since as I am changing the content of the selections all of the time. But, on the other hand, if you can load your entire collection on your Touch then a larger one makes since because you are not going to change the content, you are just going to add to what is already there.
