My primary concern going forward is that iPhone 5 will likely see 1080p video and an 8mp camera, further eating up disk space. I'd prefer 128GB, but I don't think that is possible.

Doubt very much you will see 1080p. Apple has made its bed in 720 for the time being. It's not like the current 5mp camera can't do 1080, which is less than 1mp.

Ok, storage is important...but so is product innovation. Im tired of all the "I need all my 90GB of music with me" people. My First iPhone had 8GB of storage. Yes it sucked, yes I wanted the option to have more...but all i had to do was be selective of what I put on the thing...save your whining for Apple's REAL failures (poor GPU's, non-user replaceable batteries, lame product evolutions *caugh* 13inch MBP with 1280x800*caugh).

The moment that Apple makes a 64gb iPhone, some of you will be screaming for a 128gb version straightaway. Guaranteed.

And given the update on this story, the 64GB phone was last year's prototype, and was obviously not released due to cost considerations. Unfortunately, it won't be released in 2011 either for the exact same reason, since 64GB nand flash chips are no cheaper than they were last year, and if anything Apple is even MORE sensitive to price.

And if it was coming, we would have seen a 128GB iPad.

I don't need a phone that's 64gb. I need a phone that's comfortable to hold and doesn't require a case. Anything related to iphone4 isn't that.

How much space do I use on my iPhone 4?

Less than 2GB. That's a bunch of games, Hipstamatic and all the add-ons for it, assorted other apps, and a lot of photos.

I don't use it to play music, so maybe that's why my number is so low?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8C148)

Definitely an ip4 based on build week.

64 GB NAND is likely. 128 simply isn't possible yet.

What do you mean not possible? they're selling 256gb thumb drives ( which use nand technology) on amazon. Its almost a sure bet that the next iphone will have an A5 processor, 768mb ram, 32&64gb storage options, and the next ipod touch will have 128gb...the price is finally right and with all this HD support the consumer can use the added space.

Ya know what I would like to see? An 8 GB (or if I'm dreaming, a 16 GB) iPhone 5 for $99.

I could totally get away with 8 GB if it would bring the price down to $99.

iPhone 4 gets relegated to $29.00... to give Apple a better chance at staving off the cheapo Android models and BOGOF stuff.

Apple doesn't need to stave off anything. They've shipped 100 million iPhones in 3.5 years. And in the US at least, the reason the 3GS is only $49 is that AT&T is trying desperately to hang on to it's subscriber base.

that was true until Froyo and 1GHz CPU's being in most cheapo phones like they are now. iPad is still a good value, but Android has all the features of iOS in the cheapo phones. and 2011 is the first year of AT&T having nice Android phones worth buying

NOT EXACTLY CORRECT... The 1st ipad only shared the same processor as the iphone. if history tells it correct, when and if Apple ups the iphone storage to 64 they will change the ipOd storage to double that(128gb)...which then would go into the next years ipAd. All we can expect so far is that the iphone will have the A5 chip... but i wouldn't be surprised if they added 64gb...

ALSO... this is an old prototype and :apple: has done this before with the ipOd touch 3rd gen prototype. They DIDN'T release a camera that same year for the ipOd touch but added it to the following years 4th gen touch. SO it is very possible we will see 64gb option this year... BUT SOLELY JUDGING BY THE PRICE OF NAND FLASH... there no way :apple: will do it...My fingers are crossed though.

I'm not whining about not having more storage. It would be convenient. And it's not that Apple has those failures, it's what they get for sticking with old technology for too long.

Some of us are already wanting a 128Gb. I've been wanting/waiting for 64GB, (to finally replace my iPod color) since the first iPhone. Since, over the last six month my target six has upgraded to 128Gb. Most of this space is for about 60 gigs of music. If they do the cloud streaming, (and figure a way to get my existing CDs into it,) I'd be fine with 32gb.
