Notice on the screenshot it says it's running iOS 4.1 under the version section...
Also the bars are early iOS ones...

So if this is a prototype for iPhone5 don't you think it should *At least be running 4.2.x* but should really be running iOS4.3 or iOS5...

nobody said its the iPhone 5 prototype. After the last bad mistake by the last guy with a prototype before release thats not happening. It is a prototype of the iPhone 4 that is basically scrap to Apple now. Or a very clever fake. Either way its not implying nothing but that Apple looked into 64gb tech with the iPhone 4

Why don't you buy an extra iPod then, with the money you saved by going with the 16GB? That's what I would do if I needed that much storage. Now, I also use my 16 GB iPhone 4 as an iPod, but I let iTunes rotate the music with smart playlists, e.g. limiting the contents to 5 or 10 GB and base the selection on when the tracks were last played. That way, I will get to play all the music in my library over time, even though I don't have enough space for all the music all the time.

I've looked into this as well but it isn't practical for me to predict when I will actually use my iPod so I either would always have it or have to guess if I really really need it. I like just having an iPhone. 32 is by far not enough right now, and 64 is cutting it close anymore. Programs and files and data is getting all slammed to us constantly. It's hard to keep up with enough storage. I've filled up terabytes of storage frequently

Apple decided to scrap the 64GB iPhone 4 so they could introduce that storage capacity with the iPhone 5. iPhone 4 was already a big change from the 3GS so no need to also include this. At least that is what I think.

That was my very first thought when I saw the iPhone 4 with maximum 32 GB.

maybe...

someone said Apple developed the IP4 for 2 years. Maybe its their schedule to design the next iteration and this model was scheduled to be around for two years at least. And maybe every "upgrade" of this new model was tested before we know it will be around at all. So it seems obvious that Apple tested 64GB models but kept them in their lab for the Iphone4.2 to pleasure the upgraders with a "new" more powerful phone but in the same way they keep down their develeopment expenses. All they have to do is to fit in more memory add the better camera (if at all) and plug in the dualcore A5.

Thats engeneering, take your time to do it right from the scratch but just do it once.

That guarantees better hardware than others can deliver with their 6 month (or less) cycle.

This one brings me to the point ---> helllloooo attenuation ;) and i am happy to have the dense European GSM coverage with stable signal strength :p where i need it.

I thought anyone that lost a prototype at FoxConn was thrown out of an upper story window?

There is nothing funny about that comment. People were taking their own lives over the stress and other factors, which other companies looked away when Apple was the only one to do something about it.

Immediately I thought of Charlie and Dee trying to get human meat.

Also, I agree this is probably an old prototype, the 5 better have at least 64 if not 128 and some serious speed upgrades if not a whole new body style.

You got a human meat guy?
I got a guy for everything.

Earlier today photos of a possible prototype 64GB iPhone were posted to MICGadget. At the time, the site wasn't sure if the prototype was real or if it was a clever counterfeit. MICGadget has since gotten access to the device and believes it to be real:The device shares many physical characteristics of the "lost" Gizmodo iPhone 4 which was also labeled with "XXGB" on the back. Other shared findings include no "+" or "-" markings on the volume switches and no silver ring around the lens.

This engineering prototype reportedly leaked directly from Apple's manufacturing partner FoxConn. Apple presently ships only 16GB and 32GB models of the iPhone 4, and has never shipped a 64GB model. The device owner seems to think Apple may introduce a 64GB model for the next iPhone. Apple, of course, may have made any number of different engineering prototypes of the iPhone 4 but it may or may not indicate their future plans for mass production.

It seems quite fishy to me. How this things can leak just like that lol

Stay in school.

you can't just sell a 64GB iphone. you have to first buy the flash memory and supplies are constrained right now with prices not dropping. last year i don't think apple could have bought enough flash to sell it in volume

For Gods sake Apple. Just release it already!!! I want to buy the 32gb version for the same price as the 16gb or at least a bit cheaper then it is now! And I know PLENTY of people who would use 64gb.

I think they will listen to you and release it!

It's ready when it's ready:)

This was

The only reason I didn't upgrade. All the pros that the new phone had over my 3gs, didn't outweigh the con of not being able to increase my hd space.

An amusing thread, albeit probably won't be so amusing for the people displaying their phone numbers in pictures . . .

Let's just say there is many things the Apple develop but you won't hear or know nothing about. Many of these thing never get beyond prototype stages for many different reasons.

:apple:

we already know that they test everything! Apple just wanted to sell us the 32GB to make more money instead of upping it to the 64GB... The 64GB would have cost, what, $400?

I already have all my music, games n such on my iphone 4.. doubling the size would just mean I could store more TV shows on it. Not a huge deal to me.

Let's see:

1. Larger capacity iPhone-check
2. Something that everyone has been asking for-check
3. People complaining-check

Personally, i'm looking for this in the iPhone 5:

32/64 GB models
Dual-core A5
Maybe 1.5 GB RAM
iOS 5 with new notification system
Photo Booth
Better Camera sensor

1. 16/32/64 GB models. $199 is an important price point, and just moving those large capacities down the line doesn't work, it's a fantasy, that the general public entertains.

2. A5 is a given.

3. 512 mb of RAM will remain. No reason for more at this stage other than random geek desire. Geeks would rather have the 1 gb or more of ram, even if their phone never can or will use it.

4. Many people expect enhancements to the notification system. Those expecting a brand new ground up system are way off.

5. Photobooth is a given with the A5.

6. Good luck with that one.

MacRumors 2011!

I think people on MacRumors want the following on iPhone 5:

1. 1 billion Terrabytes storage
2. 5 billion Terrabytes of RAM
3. A 37" screen with Super HD+++ Retina display but still same sized phone
4. Able to print money for free
5. The ability to fool your carrier that you're using zero data
6. Able to make you dinner
7. Stop you girlfriend bitching/moaning about everything
8. Keep Steve Jobs living forever
9. Sync from the cloud for free
10. Ability to talk to God and end world famine

Not asking much there

It's a bleeding phone so will need to be able make phonecalls.

Sure. That's why I doubt that the next iPhone will come with 64 GB storage; it will have a negative impact on the sales of iPod touch unless the latter gets 128. This is also known as cannibalisation.
Cannibalization is a short sighted group-think concept right out of IBM.

Apple doesn't care if people buy a iPod Touch instead of an iPod Classic, or an iPhone instead of an iPod Touch. Once people are in the Apple ecosphere they tend to be much more inclined to add more Apple products, and that's a positive for Apple whether the next purchase is a MBP or an iMac or an iPad.

64GB is what I need

When the iPhone 4 came out, I didn't feel too left behind by having an iPhone 3Gs. They had the same amount of storage space, I could zoom with my camera (somewhat grainy, but still possible), and still have a great phone.

However, since my phone doubles as my music player, 64GB would fit my needs much better. My hope is that the next generation of iPhone does come with increased storage space.

But if the iPhone does get bumped to 64GB, might the iPod touch get 128GB, and if so, would that be the death knell for the iPod Classic?

Upgrade

More storage space, to support dual boot, into a tore down version of Lion, Lion App?
