If I were Apple. I would start busting some rules about these "leaks". I mean comon! The iPad 2 was not a shock to see it. We all knew what was coming to us.

Exactly... I don't even know what I would do with 64gb of space. 16gb is just fine for me.

Same here....but if we're talking 1080p videos and more powerful photography apps....then I may go the other way and fill my iPhone 5 with movies and pics. Would be nice to have it all handy on my phone too...especially as you'd be able to view the contents on any tv with a hdmi port.

And I who thought only my iPhone 4 was crammed - as it's only 16 gig. So to those people for whom 32 GB isn't enough: what's on your iPhone that takes up so much space? 20 GB of apps?

if you go on vacation and take many photos and especially do a lot of filming...then it is good to have 64 GB :)

I don't think they'll change the design at all for iPhone 5. Keeping the rest of the phone the same may mean they can afford 64GB of flash memory at the high end—if this prototype is real, they obviously tried it but then decided they couldn't bring it out at the same price.

The iPhone 4 design is near-perfect, and will be in coffee-table books about industrial design for the rest of the century. Maybe they'll replace the glass back with that sintered zirconia the rumor mill was so busy with a couple of years ago....

As far as a bigger screen goes—you realize that with the pixel density of the Retina Display you could have a 4.5" screen with 1280 x 720 resolution? It would be less than 1/8" wider on each side and less than 1/2" longer on each end. Get rid of the home button like everybody's been talking about and Bob's your uncle!

I'm not predicting that Apple will do this, but wouldn't it be kickass if they did? You could watch all those HD movies you filled up your 64GB with in native resolution, and if it can shoot 720p video, it should be able to show 720p video.

Apple decided to scrap the 64GB iPhone 4 so they could introduce that storage capacity with the iPhone 5. iPhone 4 was already a big change from the 3GS so no need to also include this. At least that is what I think.

That's what I'm betting on. It was probably physically possible, but the other improvements probably more than made up for the lack of more storage. The retina display was a HUGE addition.

Someone may have also known about a timeline for possible flash memory advancements and thought the 64GB would've been a bit much at the time. This year perhaps now the storage bump is big news that carries the iPhone 5 overhaul along with an A5 chip.

A 64GB plan may have also killed profit on the iPhone 4 depending on its cost. I think a lot of people don't understand how much stuff goes through R&D. I'm betting there are R&D iPads out there in the 7-inch range just because you'd want to see the thing before totally deciding not to do it. Or there could be a bunch because Apple actually will release one. Hell, I'd even bet there are iMacs and MacBook Pros that run totally on flash drives at Apple.

from the receipt address, the video was made in Hong Kong.

a phone does not need 64GB. This is overkill. People are too focused on storage space etc. Focus more on what the phone can and cannot do.

Who needs 64gb in an iPhone, seriously?

People have already said, if you want to have lots of HD video on the thing, lots of storage is a must (especially as there is no removable/replaceable local storage on the device), but larger storage capacities are good for more than just that.

For example, there are people with huge iTunes libraries (music and or video) who would love to sync the whole library like they used to with say, a 100+GB iPod. For those people even 64GB is not enough yet.

Also, having a higher capacity top-end model arguably increases the chances of lower-priced entry level models, where people such as yourselves who don't see the point in large storage capacity models may benefit from lower prices on the smaller capacities. So it can be win-win for everyone.

that would be awesome, but from what I understand, it'd be a pain for developers :(

I've never quite understood that. The resolution of the GUI can only be upgraded in integral units (2 x, etc.)? Meanwhile they expect us to watch video where 999 out of 1,000 pixels on the screen are calculated?

No worries.

They release iPhone 5 this year along side iPhone 4

iPhone 5 will be very slim in comparison to the iPhone 4.

iPhone 4: 64 GB / 512 RAM
iPhone 5: 16 GB, 32 GB / 512 RAM

Yeah believe it, or something similar.
Apple always puts you in a thumb screw without fail.

Oh, yeah, I can still remember the pain from when I was tortured into buying my first Mac—my thumbs haven't worked right since!

Plus, uh...did you know that if you stuff the iPhone 4 into a dead pelican's gizzard it'll attenuate the signal?

And...and...if you don't get your Minimum Daily Requirement of Flash, you'll die?

Boy, the desperation is getting palpable!

iphone 5 will have 64 Gbyte options ... a step backward case, internal antenna, new processor dual core. near field ... yeah hardly anyone will use this.

iphone 5 seems to me like a very boring new version of the iphone. hopefully it will support lte ... but its not revolutionary.

You're most probably right. Apple would still be selling the G1 iPod today if it still sold bucketloads. Lazy / strategically excellent buggers. I remember one of the Nano generations (fourth?) got a last minute capacity bump to keep in line with a newly released flash Zune. Competition is always a good thing.

Really hope the iP5 has 64GB

Getting a 16GB iP4 on the day they came out, as that was all they had left, turned out to be a major mistake for me.

I'm constantly struggling with storage as I like to have a lot of music on my phone - after all, it's my iPod too. Even using the setting that turns everything on the phone to 128kbps AAC it still fills up quick.

This means that I'm always having to delete apps and music if I'm going away and need some room for video storage. Major pain.

64GB would be great.

I could see an iPhone 5 shipping in perhaps 32GB - 64GB - 128GB.

Pretty Essential if an improved camera is used, maybe 8 or 10 Megapixels, and hopefully 1080p Video Recording.

That space would get eaten up.

I completely agree. In addition to using it for music and video recording storage I also use it as a video library for my handbrake rips. My kids need a bewildering choice of cartoons for long journeys and holidays. Anything less than 64GB means some hard choices when syncing and/or a tedious process of re-ripping DVDs at sub-TV-quality bitrates, just for the iPhone.

It's obviously old!

Notice on the screenshot it says it's running iOS 4.1 under the version section...
Also the bars are early iOS ones...

So if this is a prototype for iPhone5 don't you think it should *At least be running 4.2.x* but should really be running iOS4.3 or iOS5...

Why don't you buy an extra iPod then, with the money you saved by going with the 16GB? That's what I would do if I needed that much storage. Now, I also use my 16 GB iPhone 4 as an iPod, but I let iTunes rotate the music with smart playlists, e.g. limiting the contents to 5 or 10 GB and base the selection on when the tracks were last played. That way, I will get to play all the music in my library over time, even though I don't have enough space for all the music all the time.
