First post here so please be gentle.
Ok, I've enjoyed the thread's ideas about release dates and new features (ex:touch screen, etc.).
But nobody's contributed any actual video spec speculation. (Yes, pun intended.)
Currently the iPod 5.5 plays video that is, at most complex, H.264 with the Baseline profile, 640x480 max rez, 1500kbps video bitrate, stereo AAC up to 160kbps, and no CABAC. Personally, these specs are enough for the small screen and speakers, but if I want to play this on a bigger screen with a stereo system I wish to hook the iPod to, frankly, they're quite weak.
I'd like to hear what people's opinions are on this.
Personally, I'd love to see Main Profile and CABAC playback - better compression for its higher quality. How about more HD-like resolutions? Anamorphic video (other than just square pixels) would be awesome. And if you really want high quality, 1500kbps is too low.
Cmon Steve, give the world it's first "real" high quality portable video machine finally.
