I really think that the 6th gen Touch might have an A6. I think this becuase Apple gives every iPod Touch 3 major updates (ios 6, 7 and 8), so they could get away with giving it an A6 to get it to 3 updates. Could it get the A7? yes, but I'm thinking it'll get the A6

Within one year, Apple have always included in the iPod touch the major hardware updates that help developers. Such as the retina display, the dual core chip, and the 4 inch display.

If the next iPod touch isn't updated in another two years, it will need a 64 bit processor (A7), the bigger iPhone 6 display, and Touch ID. So that is the 6th gen iPod touch.

When? This fall, one year after Touch ID and 64 bit. It's not coming next spring because that would be detrimental to Apple's profits, which revolve completely around hardware sales. And it would be idiotic for capable supply chain manager Tim Cook to let a child-oriented product launch skip the holiday season.

Yeah I guess there's no way that Apple will let a holiday season go by without a new iPod touch. Maybe they will give the 6th gen iPod touch the A7, but I think there is a possibility of it getting the A6.

Either way, I am very curious as to what Apple does with this 6th gen Touch. :)

Apple is concentrating on the iWatch and is releasing the iWatch, new iPads, new iPhones, and most likely new Macs and Apple TV this fall. iPods account for only 1% of Apple's business and is a much lower priority than the other products. With all these product launches this fall, Apple doesn't have time for a Touch 6 this fall. Also, releasing a new Touch in the spring will not be detrimental to Apple's profits since releasing these other products this fall instead of the Touch 6 will bring in more money.

You will not see a Touch 6 till spring at the earliest.

I personally think that the next iPod touch will be based on the A7 architecture due to the move to 64bit in 2013. The iPod touch should have an A7 with more than 1GB RAM though for iOS 8

This is my bet as well. I think it'll get the A7, and will be offered in similar fashion to the release of the 5th gen. 5th gen staying on in 16GB, 6th gen filling 32/64, and possibly 128GB.

If they release it this fall, it'll be a quick note and won't garner much attention. Apple has also seen people whining and complaining about the lack of updates to products this year, so next year it wouldn't surprise me to see better spacing in order to keep the fanboys perpetually wetting themselves. :p

I say mid-late spring for the touch 6g, an Apple TV update, along with new iTunes features, and an overall "media" focus.

Meh, at this point all I'm hoping for is that they will release an 6th gen (if at all) with a bigger screen, more memory, and a better camera, without letting the sound quality drop. I don't know how many times I've been tempted by android devices with huge screens.

Praying for the 6G ipod touch on October 2014!

Why do you need an expensive iphone when you spend the most of the time in wifi places? ....

For phoning i have my nokia 2210 :D

have you noticed how carriers are now advertising wifi calling? how insulting is that. they want you to think its some great new feature for cell phones users, when its the same thing an iPod touch can do free. now people will still pay a monthly charge for phone service when they are just using a voip service that should be much cheaper. even more insulting is if they are using an iPhone and their friends are too you can already call them for free over wifi using FaceTime audio.

I always try to tell people about FaceTime audio and many don't even understand what i'm talking about.

I predicted to someone a long time ago that one voip could take off and scare the crap out of all these cell carriers who are spending billions installing those towers. Looks like they will start using them for their own voip

Welcome to the club, man :)

iPod touch + huawei g6600 here. Dont need full time internet, dont want contracts or mandatory SIM charges.

Want a new iPod touch, or else bye bye Apple....

Personally I don't have an iphone. I travel a lot and hate contracts. I currently have an iPad mini with AT&T unlimited data plan that I'm grandfathered in on. I also have an iPod touch 5th gen that I use as my camera to shoot pics for my travel blog. I make & receive calls on my iPad mini all the time using my google # or other apps like txt now etc. I don't hold it up to my ear lol...but it works fine. I can also use my iPod touch to make calls when near wifi.

I would love a larger iPod touch with cellular. Then I could ditch the iPad mini and just carry one device when travelling. They could call it the ipad nano. Ha. Ha.

I was thinking about buying an unlocked 5.5" iphone 6 without a SIM card...and just putting my iPad mini AT&T unlimited data SIM card in it for data only...but I don't think that'd work.

At the very least however, I hope the iPod touch 6 comes with a better 8mp camera on par with the iphone, cause I mainly use my iPod touch as my travel camera now.

I'd love to see Apple offer this line up:

Iphone 6
Iphone 6 plus
iPod Touch 6 (4.7")
iPod Touch 6 (5.5")
IPad mini
IPad Air
Ipad Pro (the rumored 12" laptop/ipad hybrid)

Yup. That would pretty much cover things. :)

Interesting comment by MacDarcy regarding iPad Nano.
I just read that in the following article:
http://www.stableytimes.com/news/ip...-apple-folding-release-date-ipad-event/20708/

Could Apple give us an iPod Touch 6 Plus with rotating springboard? If so it could well be an iPad Nano.

Either way, I'm seriously hoping that Apple will have an event next month for the iPod Touch and iPad Air. Looking forward to seeing an iPod Touch with finger print reader etc. If there isnt one then I may actually opt to get an iPhone 6 this year.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Your other points are all good ideas... but having 3G/4G would just make the iPod Touch into an iPhone, wouldn't it? I mean sure, you can't SMS or call using traditional methods, but pretty much everyone has a smartphone today and there are more than enough messaging apps and VOIP apps to fill the void of traditional calling and texting.

Yup. And giving the iPod touch cellular capabilities will….. severely cannibalize and eat into iPhone sales. Apple simply won't let that happen.

Some of the other ideas I do support, like giving the iPod touch Gorilla Glass.

I don't think it'd canabilize iphone sales. The iPad mini didn't. If anything, it'd cause people to buy more Apple products. Win win for Apple.

Carrier wifi calling is a lot more complicated than that...

Analyst are claiming there will not be an event in October. Instead, any updates will just show up in the Apple store (most likely October 21st).

That's not what I'm hearing. I'm hearing there will be an event in October, and that Tim Cook will be unveiling new iPads...and if you believe the rumors, a new iPod touch 6 as well.

Guess we'll find out whose right in a month. ;-)

If you want cellular in an iPod you can kind of already get it.

Take a touch and add the cellular circuitry. 3G sucks battery so you need to upgrade that too and lots of people are asking for a better camera and processor - say an A6. That's all going to add a little more cost but makes sense.

Look at what you've now got? Does it remind you of anything?

Yep, it's an iPhone 5C.

I really hope they make an iPod Touch 6. Funny how I only noticed the IPod Touch 5th gen earlier today. What a gorgeous little thing.

Holding off in hopes of a iPT6 announcement as that would be perfect for my commute along with the no contract Samsung phone I'm picking up.

There have been no rumors of an iPod touch 6th generation.
If anything they will kill the iPod touch.

I just found this http://www.hallels.com/articles/6977/20140922/ipod-touch-6th-generation-price-usa-along-features.htm

and was wondering on thoughts. I'm new to the whole waiting for the newest Apple gadget so I don't know how reliable this site is. Thoughts?

That isn't a reliable site.

To be honest there was no rumors or leaks of an iPod touch 5th generation either, but it was introduced the same time as the 5.

Just because there have been no rumors doesn't mean it's dead.

Do a google search on the Touch 5. There were many rumors from different analyst on the Touch 5 release and the rumors turned out to be very accurate. I will agree with you that there were no leaks on the Touch 5.

The thing that worries me now is that there are no rumors on the Touch 6 from the usual analyst except one earlier this year that said the Touch 6 was being delayed until spring 2015.

Never. I'd bet real money that we see an update soon. The iPod touch is NOT the iPod classic. If anything, it is a ipad nano. In fact, I think that is how apple is going to market it going forward. I believe we will see a larger iPod touch. Perhaps a 4.7" or 5.5"...or maybe both like the iphone 6 & 6 plus.

The iPod touch is so much more than a music player. Its a gaming machine. A camera. It's not just for kids or people who can't afford an iphone as some argue.

Apple probably has a whole warehouse of unused A6 chips. Why throw these old chips away, when you can save some money and put them in the new iPod Touch. I'm sure nobody will complain. :)
