For the size of this thing, my just purchased refurb iPT5 64GB amazes me. I also have an iP5s and an iP5. They are all set up identically with the same apps. If not for all the incessant bitching and moaning around here about the internals of all the different iDevices, I wouldn't have any idea they had different processors or different amounts of ram. They all seem to run and respond exactly the same to me in everyday real world use.
Then you must not use many system intensive apps or doing much with your devices at all. There is definitely a marked difference between A5, A6, A7, and now A8. Hell, even the RAM disparity between the iPad 2's A5 and the third generation iPad's A5X is noticeable.
iPod is down to 1% of Apple revenue. Wouldn't be surprised to see the entire product line fade away.
My prediction? Next year, the iPod touch is replaced with a 5.5" iPad Nano. You heard it here first.![]()
That wouldn't surprise me, especially given that the iPhone 6 Plus, software-wise, seems more like a hybrid between the 4.7" (and smaller) iPhones/iPod touches and the iPads. It'd also be a nifty way for them to make a contract-less iPhone 6 Plus without necessarily tying it to the "iPod" line. I guess the question would then become "are we getting a 4.7" iPod touch down the road". Sadly, my guess is no. But I wouldn't be so sad if it still meant that we'd be getting a 5.5" iPad nano that was essentially the iPhone 6 Plus in "iPod touch" form.
I really think that the 6th gen Touch might have an A6. I think this becuase Apple gives every iPod Touch 3 major updates (ios 6, 7 and 8), so they could get away with giving it an A6 to get it to 3 updates. Could it get the A7? yes, but I'm thinking it'll get the A6
Especially given how much Apple touted Metal (a developer framework that utilizes hardware features only found in A7 or higher SoCs and is geared toward GAMING, one of the iPod touch's key marketed uses), that would seem to be a very stupid decision on their part.
That's not what I'm hearing. I'm hearing there will be an event in October, and that Tim Cook will be unveiling new iPads...and if you believe the rumors, a new iPod touch 6 as well.
You're hearing this where again? Also, why are WE not hearing it on this site, the capital of Mac news and rumors?
Apple probably has a whole warehouse of unused A6 chips. Why throw these old chips away, when you can save some money and put them in the new iPod Touch. I'm sure nobody will complain.![]()
Uh, an iPod touch with two-year old hardware thrown inside? I'm sure everyone would complain. Shoot, I would.
