Glad apple is focused on the important things.
Lord, you guys aren’t serious, right?

How is this evidence they aren’t focused on everything or that this is more important than something else? Without all the facts, you’re just throwing stuff out there.

Apple is crushing competition and printing money. They are laser focused and this changes none of that. If anything, it adds to it.

Great... more American race-consciousness emoji. Now people have even more options to make racist comments and racist jokes with emoji.

The SJW CEO Tim Cook is using Apple’s software to push his political agenda. Making race conscious and feminist emoji is going too far. There is a reason emoji was once only lemon yellow colored: because no human has lemon yellow skin, and thus it could be used to represent everyone equally.
For the billionth time: Tim Cook/Apple does not make emoji!

Emoji are designed and and standardised by the Unicode Consortium – and that includes the various skin colours. Apple only implements these standards.

For the billionth+1 time, Apple does design their own emoji. The Consortium provides a basic specification, but not a final design. This is why Apple, Google, and Microsoft emoji are all slightly different.

How do I get off this beta train?

I removed the beta profile and turned off automatic updates on my iPhone X, which I only ever installed the iOS 12 GM on. When I upgraded to the iPhone XS I used the backup from my X, and a few days later it said I had to upgrade to iOS 12.1. The only options it gave me were to install now or install tonight. When I tried to go around it, or not agree to the terms of service, it would pop back up asking me to install it again. I confirmed that my iPhone XS has no beta profiles installed, and no automatic updates enabled, and yet it somehow downloaded and installed the iOS 12.1 beta. I don't understand what is happening.
You have to connect the phone to iTunes on a computer and boot in recovery mode.

More & more & more emoji's? I fear for our future. Pictographs will replace written languages.

Lol, I got off the emoji bandwagon years ago. It’s cute but it has been around in one form or another for over 30 years now. I wonder if we have hit peak emoji? There are so many, they’re so hard to find, and it just keeps getting more bloated.

Wht re syℹ️ng⁉️

Uh oh... MacRumors forum fail. Half of the emoji that I just typed were dropped!

Stop the train! This needs to be fixed!

Called innovation. Create, discover problems, design solution. Rinse and repeat.

Emoji are controlled by Unicode to ensure compatibility for all. Skin tone Emoji are required as part of Unicode and has little to do with Apple. Increasing diversity options is a good thing and should be continued.

Ok, Finally lettuce Emoji. Be it that way. Just do not focus on this kind of stuff...
Focus on reliable hardware, software (excluding vegetables) and so on.

Wow. Apple is really into this racial thing, huh? Most of us don’t care about skin color. Yellow is fine by me...

Apple's sole involvement with emoji is in implementing the standard laid out by the Unicode Consortium.

Version 11.0, the latest, adds the new ones listed in the news post. Thus, to conform to the standard, Apple is required to design a set of graphics that match the descriptions provided by the standard.

Skin tone was added a while back, and again, is a requirement of the standard.

Neither Tim Cook nor Apple have any involvement in the decisions the consortium makes when updating the Unicode standard.

Edit: It would appear that Apple does have involvement with the Unicode Consortium. That said, they are but one member among others like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft.

Having extra options doesn't really hurt anybody, does it?
