Are there facepalms for men and all people of all colors as well?
[doublepost=1464969128][/doublepost]
Once we get enough emojis we can quit teaching words and spelling in school, that is just so 'old school'. And better yet, emojis are the making of the universal language. Just think we will all be able to communicate no matter what country you were born in or language you speak. We truly are becoming one world, one people (just dumber than rock). ;)

De-evolution is real. So is its economy if conscious creation and alteration over the decades. Nobody needs to know x or y because it's no longer relevant to society. Which adds some heavy irony into the situation on top of everything else...

The sad part is, the Bible, in allegory and metaphor, discussed what happened... I wonder if other religions had. Since we're multicultural and ironic, and how all religions all say that only theirs is the true one, I don't see how the Babel story would not be repeated...

Search function PLEASE.

This, it's getting ridiculous looking for these things. Or at least when you type out the emoji action show it as an option on the predict keyboard.

I use (and really enjoy) the Word Flow keyboard (by Microsoft, ironically). Aside from the ability to swipe to type, it does this for you. You type "Door" and the Door emoji appears in the predictive text area. Obviously, it doesn't work for EVERY Emoji, but it works pretty well.

Wow.. Incredible stuff from Apple

This next update will be revolutionary. Say you wake up in the morning and want to ask your significant other if they want some bacon with their breakfast. In this latest update you can do just that without ever needing to type out the word bacon. Who wants to do that? You've gotta lift your finger a few times and type a bunch of letters. Well as it turns out we've finally found a way to truly revolutionize the market.

You just find the bacon emoji, tap it and boom you're done. This is coming to all of their internet communication devices.

Congratulations! You were the person whose ignorant comment finally pushed me over the edge. Why do you people display your complete ignorance when attempting (and it was a lame attempt) to be witty?

Apple has had NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS!! This is the work of the Unicode group that oversee the Emoji standard.

You people are so desperate to hate Apple that you hate them for things they don't even do.

As an Apple investor, I'm proud to see my money being put to such good use. ;)

How much did Apple spend to have an independent international organization create new emoji completely independently without any involvement from them?

I'm sad to see people inviting in Apple that are so ignorant of technology. Now where's that darn face-palm emoji...

Well...now I'm looking at this in a new light....

Those ancient Egyptians were such slackers.

Article Link: 72 New Emoji Including Bacon, Shrug, Selfie and Face Palm Coming in Unicode 9[/QUOTE]
[doublepost=1464975277][/doublepost]

The Unicode Consortium recently approved 72 new emoji for inclusion in Unicode 9, set to be released on June 21. New emoji range from expanded smileys and people to new animals, food, and sports.

Notable smileys include rolling on the floor laughing, drooling face, and nauseated face, while the people/body category gains shrug, selfie, and face palm. New animal emoji include gorilla, fox face, deer, shark, and owl, and some of the new foods include avocado, potato, croissant, pancakes, salad, and bacon.

There are a line of new medals, objects like a scooter and a canoe, and emoji to represent boxing gloves, martial arts uniforms, wrestlers, fencing, juggling, and more. Emojipedia has shared mockups and a full list of upcoming emoji.

The emoji above serve as simple mockups and are not representative of what the actual emoji will look like on various devices, but Emojipedia has created them in the Apple style. Apple and Google's designers will actually custom design emoji based on the Unicode Consortium's guidelines for each character, crafting them to fit in with existing emoji.

Though the Unicode Consortium is releasing Unicode 9 on June 21, the new emoji will not be available on iOS and Mac devices until Apple implements support for them, which can sometimes take several months. Apple currently supports Unicode 8, which introduced emoji like taco, burrito, unicorn face, and popcorn, along with emoji skin tone modifiers.

With the release of Unicode 9 on the horizon, the Unicode Consortium has already begun considering candidates for Unicode 10, with dumpling, takeout box, fortune cookie, orange heart, sled, and more under consideration.

It's odd how they added the ability to change skin tones for emoji representing a single character, but you still cannot change skin tones for multi-character emoji i.e. the family or couples emoji. It's like they don't want representation of multiethnic families or couples. It would have been just as easy to add. They don't need the full skin-tone hue spectrum. Just some emoji that switch between darker/lighter child/parent characters. It would actually more meaningful in terms of representing ethnic diversity.

It would also be cute to have a few adult/romantic emoji that couples can use. Nothing obscene but emoji along the lines of a couple in bed with the covers over them and a kissing couple etc.

Btw, does anyone know the significance of this emoji? ‍

Will the Emoji become a new kind of Kanji? Replacing English as the universal language?

If you were in a foreign country (and didn't speak the local language) you could ask a local person a question using your iPhones screen. And they could answer by showing you the screen of their Android tablet.

With a bacon emoji and new watch bands, who needs updates to hardware that hasn't been touched in 12-24 months?

We are getting there rapidly. Text messages have distorted english already. All I need are "f*ck off," "eat sh*t and die", and a "you ignorant twit" Emojis. With these additions I could do most of my fora posts using Emojis :)

Which is fine when they're a small, widely-understood set and are used principally to convey the tone in which something is said (smile, grin, wink, stick-out-tongue). They do add clarity, then.

OTOH, this proliferation of ambiguous, "clip-art" style emojis will simply lead to misunderstanding. We've already witnessed this in this very thread as two individuals disagreed on whether the avocado was really a kiwi.

(Actually there's an avocado AND a kiwi, but you have to carefully study the entire set of emojis to realize that)

Yeah, I agree that a lot of the new emoji don't seem to be helping anything, but I do like facepalm and shrug. I wish they would add embarrassed and some others to the list of emotions. Also, I think the emoji designers sometimes aren't really very good at conveying the correct emotions in those faces. The final way I'd improve them is to optionally display them at a larger size.

For whatever reason, the animated Apple emoji on the watch just creep me out.

It is an anti-bullying campaign that is extremely slow in getting off the ground. Good intentions, poor implementation.

Would you share with us all your insider knowledge of when and where Apple contributed to the international Unicode project? It wasn't in this story and Apple has not ties whatsoever with this organization.

Or we can all just admit that you had no idea about what you were talking about, probably didn't actually read the story and only have an account here to criticize things that Apple does. Unfortunately, for you, Apple didn't have anything to do with this at all. This is why we need a face-palm emoji, for people like you.

I'll still use ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - I have a keyboard shortcut for it, "zshrug"

Nice, FYI the originals are still there on the romaji Japanese keyboard \(^o^)/

IDK if I should take anything you said here seriously or not, but remember how fun was writing everything in DOS? Graphical interfaces are great; we use them everyday for everything And they are all around us.
