The world's media gathered today as MacRumors unveiled its first signing of the summer. The Forum has secured the signature of the 2009-10 Football Thread ahead of the new campaign.

new_football_thread.jpg

Head Coach Arn explained the transfer, "It was important we moved quickly to secure this signing – 2008-09 Football Thread and 2008-09 Football Thread - The Second Half had both proved to be very popular with supporters and had forged an excellent partnership. However, with their retirement at the end of last season a new thread was clearly needed, and we're confident 2009-10 can fulfil this important role."

It is believed MacRumors faced stiff competition for 2009-10's services, with arch-rivals PCRumours said to have tabled a forum-record bid. No one at MacRumors would officially comment on the terms or length of the new thread's contract, but sources suggest it has signed a lucrative 2,000 post deal.

Awww man, I thought this was going to be about the real, masculine version of football.

Accrington Stanley!

No, this is what you probably call 'soccer' – that name comes from an abbreviation of the word 'socialist', as 'soccer' is played by pinko-commie Europeans and as such will probably hold little interest for you.

I'm glad to have been of some assistance to you. :)

Hah. It's just about what kind of picture you wanna give (sorry about the size):

Real football:

And he is considered "fit".

The homo eroticism may not be as obvious as in the egg shaped ball games but we have our moments.

He he he

No, it's the non body armor version where foot meets ball, and 0-0 can actually be exciting :)
And a good result to boot!!

any good game in the US this summer?
That Euro tour thingy that comes to the states but only plays in big cities, the "Tour of Champions" or some such usually Barca, Milan, Celtic, I think Man City...

only in america, playing rugby with protective gear, helmet and wearing spandex with guys slapping on each others behinds on every opportunity and handling the ball only with hands 99% is called "masculine version of football"

I should clarify... football, be it professional or collegiate, played outside of states with SEC, Big 12 or southern ACC schools is probably just as frilly as soccer played in Europe's liberal bastions.

To be honest, I think the stadium picture I posted earlier outdoes everyone so let's leave it at that.

Anyway, back to more important stuff than the frankly silly business of who's girlier than who – after escaping the drizzly, freezing British Isles Ronaldo will no doubt be looking forward to making his long awaited debut for Real Madrid. Turns out he may well be making it against Dublin part-timers Shamrock Rovers, in front of a crowd numbering around 3,500 spectators.

The facilities are certainly a long way away from what he'll be used to at the likes of Old Trafford and the Bernabéu. For those who fancy a Galáctico's eye view of what he can expect in Ireland, one of the Hoops' players gives us a guided tour of their new stadium.

Old Rocky Top can only turn green with jealousy:

I'd take 95,000 Catalans over 100,000 hicks from the sticks any way.

Oh please, people still come in these threads and compare American football and football? Ugh.

Amen to that Silencio. Also, they're upgrading the Nou Camp to 100,000+ :)

Okay, enough with the stupid yank sports, I'm sure the mods will delete those posts after. Let's get on topic.

How much do you think the loss of Ronaldo will effect Man UTD (if at all)?

Why is it that the "Accrington Stanley" fans only come out at the start of our threads, and then fade away? They need to show some more support for their team.:D

There's nothing wrong with American football, I watch it occasionally when my team is doing well (very occasionally, since I'm a Cleveland fan), or catch a MNF game. But Football (Futbol) is the biggest sport on earth, and if you can't at least admit that then, well, I don't know what to tell ya.

On to futbol:

Any of you other USA-based fans of the Beautiful Game planning to make it to any of the matches at the 2009 World Football Challenge? AC Milan, Inter Milan, Club America and Chelsea are participating. AC vs Inter in Massachusetts sounds tasty.

Johnson to Liverpool sounds like it could be a decent buy, especially if he will be a regular starter.

That's it!!

ANd speaking of stadia... the one that Braga (I think it is theirs) plays in is really cool. Surrounded by an old rock quarry.

Well, how do you replace the worlds best player?
I guess the answer to that would be, with the future worlds best player :)
Although he wasn't as prolific this season as he was last, I think they will miss him. SAF is a wily old fox though, so I'm sure if he does indeed get the full £80m to spend we can expect to see some decent signings.

The worlds best player? Highly debatable.
