Yup, well done to the U21s. Agbonlahor looked like he might make a bright start, but sadly went off injured. Things seemed pretty even (if not slightly in England's favour) but Walcott did seem to swing the balance more towards England. Great goal by Campbell and an even better leap out of the way for the 2nd goal, I thought Milner's shot was going to hit him :)

I can see Campbell doing well in this tournament, and on his return to Blighty deciding not to sign for us. Manchester United then put him on the open market, and he goes to Wigan as part of the deal that sends Valencia the other way.

Then, to rub salt into the wound, in the penultimate match of the season, he scores a hat-trick against us to confirm our relegation. Bah.

Us City fans know to start off from a position of total pessimism, ultimately it helps soften the blow when the worst finally does happen. :p

I'm sure he's focused on the tournament, but his lack of comment about his future move to Hull is a little concerning.

The official line is that our offer has been accepted by Manchester United, he's essentially agreed to join us, but while he's across in Sweden his dad (who's also essentially his agent, I believe) is finalising his terms and also discussing the possibility of a severance package with the Old Traffiord outfit.

The noises are all positive, and the fact he's away on international duty is a complication, but we've had our fingers burnt in this situation before. There's a feeling that it'll be sorted by the end of the month and he'll be officially presented on July 1st along with our new kits and sponsor, in a massive PR hullabaloo. Hopefully this'll be the case, Fraizer looks good in amber.

I am going to say it now, I think my Latics are going to get relegated this season. We have an unproved manager and are going to lose several of our key players.

Eh, Valencia is not selling Villa after all. Maybe Villa wanted to stay, but such a weird thing that he negotiated with other teams.

Relegated? Nah, Martinez is Teh Schnizzle!

Wigan have secured the services of one of the outstanding young managers in Blighty at the moment.

Mr J Cake - Have Hull purchased a tartan blanket and picnic set for half-time? :)

F Campbell - sad to see young players leave, hope he does well.

G Johnson - if I was good enough to play alongside him, I would find it hard to trust him as a defender. There is just something about him I don't like.

C Ronaldo - when Ruud V N left it allowed the team to play at a higher tempo, silver lining this time - hopefully Berbatov and Rooney will gain. As for replacing the goals, say 10 more between Rooney and Berbatov, 5 from Ronaldo's replacement and another 5 from the rest of the team.

Hargreaves - need a back up in addition to Fletcher. If Hargreaves plays, it's a bonus.

Everton - when is Arteta back?

Cheers,
OW

The bestest bit of transfer news ever would surely be David Villa signing for Aston Villa and Antonio Valencia moving to Valencia.

If these captures aren't snaking their way along the Sky Sports News ticker by the start of the season I for one will be very disappointed.

If we score against Manchester City this season – especially if it happens at Eastlands – then seeing the players celebrate by sitting down in the penalty area would be a giggle.

Interesting to see where Tevez will go...his ownership situation is criminal, and greed being their prime motivator (his "owners", not Tevez himself), I suspect he'll end up at Man City, since they are probably willing to pay the most.

Chelsea is probably a better place for him - If I were a Chelsea fan I would want to replace Drogba and Anelka ASAP. They are both head cases and not getting any younger. It would be nice to have him at Liverpool but he would be an impact bench player there, which is exactly the situation that saw him want to leave United.

I'm suffering through the Confederations Cup - USA are not playing well, I didn't expect anything out of these first two games but if Egypt can beat Italy...I don't think we're going to get anything out of this tournament except the lesson that we are not at all ready for the World Cup. Bob Bradley has been under a lot of scrutiny from the fans, but there are no indications that we are even thinking of switching managers. Our national squad improves with every WC, but right now it feels like Bradley does not have a firm starting XI in his mind, and the squad rotates too much for the players to develop chemistry.

Lord Blackadder,

Tevez - probably Manchester City - Apparently he likes where he is living and he also has the 'fighting for the underdog' mentality, despite having played for Manchester United.

USA - seen a bit of the competition, admired the disallowed own goal against Italy, cracking shot.

Cheers,
OW

I agree. It is interesting to note, however, that Tevez will not go to Liverpool due to the rivalry issue - yet he may be willing to walk across town to local rivals Man City? I realize that Liverpool is a bigger rivalry as far as Man U fans are concerned, but the reasoning still seems a little cloudy. What to do United fans think of a switch to City?

I will not for a minute suggest that USA should expect to get results against the likes of Brazil and Italy, but I still think we are under-performing. Offense is always a weak spot for us, but when USA is playing to their full potential we are a good physical side that is hard to break down.

I think it was very smart of him to put the two moves in the same light given how easily distracted modern-day football fans are. Personally i would pick a City transfer over Liverpool or Chelsea any day.

Btw, if you don't mind Lord, how would you compare the Egyptian side to the USA team in this tournament?

I haven't been able to watch any of the games, but judging by the highlights and match reports the Egyptians are without doubt the superior team. In particular their midfield and forwards seem to be linking up much better. I predict a 2-0 win to Egypt. If we do score it will likely be from a set piece.

I agree with your prediction, and even though i believe the current egyptian team is the better of the two, i think the momentum they'll have going into the game will be the ultimate factor. Case in point (??) if the tables were turned and the USA had the momentum going in I would have fancied them to edge through.

i too think that egypt will win: Abou Trika from the midfield and Zidan simply seem to be in great playing shape currently

on the other side it's gonna be interesting if spain will continue today with their exceptional form

Tevez to City makes sense

Money, Location, and Starting job

But City will still be far from title contention the next 2 years, imo, so he is giving that up

Wow, what a shock upset. I was able to watch almost the entire game, and I'm still pumped!

It was a totally different USA performance from what I saw earlier...our back four of Bornstein, Spector, DeMerit and Onyewu were excellent. Backup Villa keeper Brad Guzan was also huge for us. The goal by Bradley was preceded by some great work by Donovan. Dempsey showed great strength on his headed effort. Awesome.

Egypt looked a little disorganized at the back to me, we seemed to be able to get behind their defense a lot. So, a big upset as USA, Italy and Egypt finish with identical 1-2-0 records and we go through not on goal difference, but on goals scored...

Next up for USA: Spain.

EDIT: Interesting to see Europeans complaining about the use if vuvuzela horns at the Confederations Cup. They can be annoying, but I'm used to them, they are common in the MLS and in Central American soccer.

I find them bloody annoying, personally. However, I fully expect to see the sponsors handing out loads of branded versions to impressionable supporters at next year's World Cup, thus ensuring Mark Lawrenson's 'commentary' isn't the only irritating whine emanating from our TVs during the course of a match.

I would say that only about 10-15% of the fans at an average MLS game use the vuvuzelas, and I have to admit that a whole stadium full of them would probably be intolerable.

I don't know if it's going to be New Zealand bad, but it's going to be bad...

We should lose, for sure, but if we are on our game we won't get our butts kicked too bad - just as we managed a 1-1 draw in World Cup '06 vs Italy. It could happen, if we are lucky.
