Anyone else here name their MacBook Pro? I just got mine, but my friend named her's. And it got me thinking...Anyone else name 'em?

Mine is called "MonsterBook Perversion", as that 17-inch model is quite a monster, compared to a 12-inch iBook.
The older Macs had different names due to different phases.

I named my MBP Ununtrium, my iPod touch is called Ununbium, my external hardrive is Ununquadium and my old iPod video is called Ununpentium.

They are elements from the periodic table, and yes I'm a nerd. I'm sooo gonna call my new ipod shuffle Zinc or Stannous.

Meh, I always enjoyed those element names from my organic chem classes.

Dude - have you ever got laid??

might very possibly be the saddest thread I've ever seen...

Why?

We post pictures of our setups, have countless threads about why Mac/Windows is better or worse with sometimes stupid arguments, we have hundred of threads of iPhone related stuff, that could be summed up in one thread or threads about the names of our wireless lans or others we have seen.
Most people are more than the average computer user and are sometimes what the other world calls geeks and nerds.

So what's the harm in this? It's just passing the time, as we don't really hunt and gather anymore and have too much of that concept.

This is kind of pathetic... I mean, a boat, or a sweet car, I could understand. But a computer? I understand that many people (including myself) love their Macs, but I don't think this calls for a name...

I also find this strange. I name my guitars, but I really doubt that anyone has the sort of emotional and spiritual connection to their computer that I have with my guitars. If you do, I'm a tad concerned. What are you doing on these computers exactly?

I think some posters got something confused here.
The OP just wants to know the computer name as it is set in the Sharing Preferences of the System, not an actual name we give our computers.

Many may just keep the "user name' mac model" computer name, but some might actually change it to something more in synch with them.
Here's a screen shot:

Don't be confused, it's Mac OS X, just with a slightly non-Leopard skin.

Really? You have an emotional attachment to an inanimate object, and it's weird for us to have emotional attachments to our own inanimate object.
Your logic confuses me.

So we like stroking the trackpad while you like plucking your strings. :p

Hmmm, sometimes we bring them into bed with us:p...:D My violin is named after it's maker, Georges Michel. The bow is named after the place my violin was made (Mirecourt).

Edit: Not sure if Georges Michel is spelled right. 99% sure, though.

No it's not people have emotional attachments to inanimate objects all the time. Think of your favorite stuffed animal as a child, or your favorite book, your first watch, a picture, etc.

I only name things when they break, and they usually get the same name....

Like when my car broke, people heard me calling it by name and threatening it ...

" c'mon BIT*H, if you don't start I'll make a go cart out of you! "
Name in CAPS !!!!

:D :D :D

My new MBP is Amaterasu (Japanese Goddess of the Sun)

My iPhone 3Gs is X-23 (one of my favoritest comic characters, ever)

My iMac is Lilith (Adam's first wife, Mother of Demons).

Yes, I'm a geek chick, and proud of it.

My girlfriend's stuff (her Macbook, Touch, etc) are named after Emma Frost's daughters The Stepford Cuckoos.

She's a geek too.

My 13" MacBook Pro is "clueless".
The ThinkPad I sold was "mindless".
My desktop is "fearless".
My iPod Touch is "wireless".
My server is "headless".
I had in the past a "thoughtless" server.

All of them are/were wandering in my "wasteland" network.

wow we'll find anything to argue about and attack each other here on MR. i used to do this as TuffLuff knows but i've found that it's really not worth it. if you think this is stupid than just dont comment on it.
