I haven't named my MBP but I do call my new 09 Mac Pro a "Sexy Bitch" all the time then my girlfriend gets pissed and walks out of my room.

Really? You have an emotional attachment to an inanimate object, and it's weird for us to have emotional attachments to our own inanimate object.
Your logic confuses me.

A guitar is a musical instrument. Many people are attached to their instruments (see Yo-Yo Ma buying his 'cello it's own first-class airplane seat), because an instrument is something you make art with, something emotional. Who makes art on a Macbook? Does graphic design really count?

maybe I am weird...

My 13" MacBook Pro is "clueless".
The ThinkPad I sold was "mindless".
My desktop is "fearless".
My iPod Touch is "wireless".
My server is "headless".
I had in the past a "thoughtless" server.

All of them are/were wandering in my "wasteland" network.

That really made me laugh.

I also find this strange. I name my guitars, but I really doubt that anyone has the sort of emotional and spiritual connection to their computer that I have with my guitars. If you do, I'm a tad concerned. What are you doing on these computers exactly?

I'm sure we could find someone who would think naming your guitars is weird, but that's not neccessary. I name all of my electronics, I have since I was a kid. I remember when my family and I got our first computer(iBook G3 tangerine, that thing was badass) and when we were setting it up we needed to give it a name, and since I was little I told my dad to name it after my great uncle who had just died. Ever since then I name all of my electronics after people.

MacBook- Oliver
External HDD- Dennis
SD card- Ernest
Cell phone- Elanor
eMac- Stella

I like to change the default name of a Mac to something more interesting.

I like the "Rebel" thing because my house has been and is mostly Windows.

Mac mini: Rebel Intel

PowerMac G4 DA: Rebel G4

If I were to get a PPC laptop it would be Rebel G4 M. An Intel would be Rebel Intel M.

I haven't decided what to do if I get another Mac desktop. I think if that were to happen, I'd either name my computers after supercomputers or great minds of history. The PM would be Deep Blue, obviously.

Graphic design is not the only art done on a computer.
Music, film, photography, sketches, .... many things can be done that count as art with a tool like the computer is.
A musical instrument is a tool too, just a very specific one, the computer is a tool with many, many areas of expertise, if the software is there for it.

So people can have emotional attachment to this inanimate object too, like you and your inanimate guitar.
It's a matter of perspective and not of getting laid.

I've actually named all of the systems on my home network after Scooby Doo characters. Including Velma. Makes it real easy to know which is which when remotely administering them.

Haha nice.
And having unique names really helps when networking. It's a lot less annoying looking for 'oliver' on my network than it is trying to find 'Matthew Scott's 13 inch MacBook'.

wait, are you guys talking about naming your macbook pro inside the OS? Such as how servers might see what 'name' your computer is? or naming your macbook as a real 'thing?' like it's your pet or loved one or something

cause if its that.... that is the most pathetic thing ever.

My 17" Unibody is named BAMF. Pulp Fiction fans will appreciate that. Usually I name my laptop TrapperKeeper, but this one deserved something more fitting.

My 4GB USB drive is named Ravage. The computer I used to always use it in was called Soundwave.

Anyone else here name their MacBook Pro? I just got mine, but my friend named her's. And it got me thinking...Anyone else name 'em?

.........

it's like those guys who give 'special names' to their sexual organs....how sad

Trolling much lately?

Isn't 22 an age when one is mature enough to read properly? Your kind of arguments have already been brought up, and it has already been clarified that the OP means something else besides your junk.

Doesn't it transfer when you Migrate to a new Mac, think mine still says PowerBook G4, my iTunes library is still G4 library.

why so serious?? :)

just relax, I m not here to start an argument, it's just a little joke

I never really liked the default name but hadn't changed it until I saw this thread.

So, as it's space walk day, computers will be nambed after space shuttles and space missions.

My first and current MacBook Pro is now named Apollo MBP.

Next one will be Endeavor or something like that.

Dude - have you ever got laid??

He owns lots of Apple products, so of course he has.

Why do you assume I'm a guy?

For clarification, I'm a girl, and these are the names of my computer/external hard drive/ipods as they appear on my computer. I verbally call my computer/external hard drive/ipods, my computer, my external hard drive, my iPod.

Where I go to school (Graduate school, thankyouverymuch), the computer names and type show up under the shared tab if you are on the internet and do not like to broadcast Jane Doe's MacBook Pro to the entire campus. This is very different from, say, nicknaming breasts (which my boyfriend has done for mine, this should answer the question of getting laid).

Now, can we move on?

Nihar
