Why is it that the UK always gets an awful deal when it comes to Mac pricing.

Snow Leopard is £7.43 more expensive in the UK than the USA.

What's the deal?

I've emailed Steve to see what's up.

I'll post more as soon as I have a reply.

It's more expensive because Apple hate you, personally.

The US price probably doesn't include taxes, exchange rates vary, and just being here [UK] you should know things are always a little bit more expensive.

It's a few quid, £25 is pretty good value anyway. Be happy with it.

Surely the point needs to be raised?

I understand about VAT, should I moan at the government then?

It's effectively a service pack, we shouldn't be paying at all.

The price is not that much different after you add local sales tax - roughly £19 vs £25 but that does include our 15% sales tax!

Ok not perfect but $30 + 15% = 34.4885 / 1.64 = 21.0295732 so £4 difference.

I agree with edesignuk. The point doesn't need to be raised. Everyone pays taxes. You're not the only one.

No, by all means! Complain about it here! After all, this forum decides who pays what taxes, not the government!

Awwww! Did the big, bad capitalist company want to take your money so they could make a profit and stay in business? How rude! Bad Apple!

Good for you mate. I too find this price policy of Apple unfair. Not only in the UK but also here in the rest of Europe the single license sells for Euro 29 and the family pack for Euro 49. I just ordered the family pack. The current exchange rate to Euro is: $49 = 34,21 Euro so I am paying 43% more!!

The only way to perform a fair comparison is to remove the VAT from the UK price because the rate of taxation in the USA varies from 0% to a level not far off our own tax.

£25 / 1.15 = £21.73

At today's rate this is $35.83, which leaves us with a mark up of $6.83 or £4.14, which is 23.5%.

OK I get the point,

Apple are out to make profit, they do this by charging more to us than what it costs them. £25 for a whole OS is nothing. Thus--> shut up and stop whining. Anyone for a cup of tea?

So much failure in one post. "VAT and import costs are Apple's fault!" "It's just a service pack!"

Complain to Gordon Brown or don't buy it.

So I'm not completely stupid?

They do have to translate the software into a vast number of different languages to sell in Europe, and they aren't allowed to charge different amounts to consumers in different European countries, so they have to add that translation markup onto everyone.

Duff-Man says...the whole issue of foreign pricing has been beaten to death so many times yet still get raised almost weekly. Is taxes included vs taxes added after so difficult to grasp? Are fluctuating exchange rates beyond comprehension? Do people not realize that the cost of doing business may be more in some countries - rent/lease on retail space, higher corporate tax rates etc etc.

I'd suggest that instead of whining you perhaps spend a few minutes learning the basics of the economics of doing business where you live....oh yeah!
