Living in Ireland, I accept it's expensive here. I'm certainly not going to go crying to Steve Jobs about it....

Oh and we have a 21.5% VAT rate.....

€29 = about £25. So it seems a 15% VAT rate and a 21.5% VAT rate still equate to the same overall price. Although I don't like to whinge (as much as others) - I'm sure the price has been hiked (at least a little) just because we in the UK are so used to being shafted that Apple know they can get away with it :)

You must understand that whingeing is a national sport here.

Being introduced as a new event, taking the place of synchronised swimming, at the 2012 London Olympics… Britain's medal tally set to soar. :D

We were already 4th last time ;).

Nothing new here.
Apple products have always been much cheaper in the US than in the Netherlands.

Now let's see: 1 Euro = 1.4 US Dollar
MacBook Pro 13 inch 2.26GHz in the US:
1199 US Dollar converted to EURO = 837 EUR

MacBook Pro 13 inch 2.26GHz in The Netherlands:
1149 EUR converted to US Dollar = 1646 US Dollar

Great!

I don't think it's an unfair price. With VAT, import and all other things included I think it's a pretty good price.

Bottom line is I've just paid £39 for a 5 user family pack which works out a hell of a lot cheaper than 5 licences for Windows 7 would cost me.

How the hell do you figure that one out. We pay national insurance which is the funding for the national health service. We don't get a choice. I can't call the tax man and say I'm with bupa so I'm not paying.

It was a joke...Relax. The UK prices are generally higher, not a joke. Clearly Apple does not charge more so that you can get national health care.

Why is it that the UK always gets an awful deal when it comes to Mac pricing.

Snow Leopard is £7.43 more expensive in the UK than the USA.

What's the deal?

I've emailed Steve to see what's up.

I'll post more as soon as I have a reply.

Taxes you silly boy.

It's effectively a service pack, we shouldn't be paying at all.
Shoot yourself ;) I'm sorry, but there are a lot of refinements, and if you consider that those people's work should not cost you anything, don't buy. I'm sure Apple won't beg you for your pounds.

For me, folder navigation within the Dock and "Put Back" are worth the money alone. Apple has already taken $100 off, and work did go into the product. You, silly kids, saying that they should give it for free, have no idea what you're talking about. Now go update your Facebook ;)

It's a lot cheaper than one Windows 7 licence. :D

Last weekend in the Netherlands I paid 12€ (~$17) extra to have the interior of my car cleaned at the car wash. It took two guys 45 mins to wash the windows & vacuum between chatting & pretending to look busy. Taxes are higher + the work ethic is different.

I'm slightly disappointed that there is no education discount on Snow Leopard? When I logged into the Higher Education Store via my uni's VPN it's still listed at £25.

Am i the only Englishman who thinks that £25 for a entire operating system is damn good value?!

i remember paying £70+ for Leopard, so £25 for a better version of that software is a bargain in my eyes!

Um, you can access the HE store from anywhere on the Internet. ;)

I know but the link I had stopped working so I logged into the Uni's VPN and went through that way and it worked! The I bookmarked the link and don't need VPN anymore.

Every time there is a price issue like this, I see UK this UK that. What about the rest of Europe where the issue is exactly the same??? The UK is not being picked on here.

Oh, but if French, Italian German Mac users want to chime in then they are free to, no?

It is just that we in the UK are more visible… it seems. ;)

Yeah but the UK are Pro moaners. (as already well documented)

They do have to translate the software into a vast number of different languages to sell in Europe, and they aren't allowed to charge different amounts to consumers in different European countries, so they have to add that translation markup onto everyone.

They are _allowed_ to charge different amounts of money in different European countries; they are just not allowed to refuse to sell to someone from a different country. As long as the prices are roughly the same, nobody tries to buy in a different country and nobody complains; but if say Apple Netherlands charged half the price then everyone would try to order there, and they would all be complaining if Apple refused to sell.

Guess who pays when Bupa messes it up. All they pay for is a nicer room; but if there is any difficult operation, the NHS will do it.

English is our native language, it isn't the native language in other European countries.

Yes that's true, but the point I was bringing up was that threads like this always cite one particular country as if it were being singled out, whereas the same prices are reflected throughout much of the world. Maybe if the OP's of such threads had a quick look at prices around the world they'd realise they've got nothing to whine about.
