I have the Belkin BoostUp Fast Charger (stand-alone) and have had slow-charging issues as well. I've also seen it using the Apple cable and Apple charger, but only after trying the Belkin charger. I just received a replacement charger from Belkin - the new charger has the same issue.

Question for others - does the position of your Apple Watch (flat versus nightstand) impact? I have a theory that the issue is based on the nightstand mode, but I haven't finished testing yet.

I just tried charing with my Belkin 3-in-1 charger in both the flat and nightstand mode and see no difference. Charging exceedingly slowly both ways.

I thought that I had seen very slow charging with my Apple cable in landscape mode, but it may have been after repeated attempts with my Belkin charger. I've got the same - very slow (3-4% per hour) charging in both flat and nightstand mode, but rapid charging with Apple cable.

I'm on Watch OS 8.5 with the new BoostUp Pro 3in1 charger and got similar issue, Apple Watch Series 7 won't charge. I talked to both Belkin online support and Belkin Twitter support yesterday. Twitter support said that they're investigating and suggested a hard reboot by holding the crown and the side button at the same time. Online chat support escalated my case to Belkin level 2 support. Today Belkin level 2 called back and said they're aware of this and since the other two (the MagSafe and the one for AirPods) worked fine, they say it's a software issue and I'll have to wait for Apple to release new software for Apple Watch :(

I followed the same steps from Belkin support. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if I paid 30$ on Amazon for a third party Apple Watch charger, but we paid big money to get OEM MagSafe and Apple Watch charging pucks. I don't know what is the technical reason that explain this if there's no issues with the standard Apple Watch charger, but I'm disappointed that my 150$ charger is barely usable for a few days/weeks while I paid for the price of an (almost) first party product.

I'm having the same issue with my Series 7 on the official Apple Watch charger. As others have said, a hard reboot (holding the crown and the button at the same time until the Apple logo pops up) seems to fix it for that charging session. But issue recurs at the next charging session.

I have the newest Belkin Boost UP Charge Pro 3-in-1 charger and an AW Series 6. Last night I put my watch and my iPhone 13 mini (both on the latest software) on the charger. This morning they were both charged to 100% as expected. Out of curiosity I took a look at the charging profiles for both. In the past, with optimized battery charging turned on, I would see the charge rise to about 80% and hold steady there for about half the night, and then rise to 100% and hold steady there for the remainder of the night. In the screenshots below, both the watch and the phone seem to show the charger struggling a bit to hit the right levels. Is this typical of what you all are seeing?

I think this issue deserves a post/article to get more attention. It's weird no article mentioned watchOS 8.5 clearly breaking fast charging. Could macrumors post one?

This issue seems to be only on Belkin charger, not the included Apple Watch charger, and it’s probably why MacRumors didn’t make an article about it as the issue is still concerning a very slim part of their audience.

That said, I wished Apple support or Belkin would give us a statement or some informations about that by now, almost two weeks now that WatchOS 8.5 was released

Nah… it’s not. I have two Apple Fast Charging cables and I keep having this issue with them. Not everytime though but like every 3rd or 4th time I think. Doesn’t need a hard-reboot though. Just turning it off and then putting it on the charger does the trick. Annoying af though when you expect the watch to charge 20% while you shower and it just doesn’t…

I agree with you. Although bulk of the issues are with the Belkin charger, my AW has started to show unpredictable charging behaviour after installing watchOS 8.5 even with the original Apple charger.

Update: I am now at a point where I have to shut down my AW7 everytime before I put it onto the original Apple fastcharger or it will just sit at the battery percentage that it was when I put it on the charger. I have now tried hard-rebooting it and will see if it changes something.

Seeing the same behaviour here too!

I am installing WatchOS 8.5.1... let's hope this issue has been fixed.

Apple Releases watchOS 8.5.1 With Security Updates and Bug Fixes

UPDATE: The issue is still not fixed :(
I don't think anyone knows this for sure. We all needed our watches to be at 50%+ for the update, and they'd end up probably at 70-80% by the time the update is finished. Fast charging is only really fast at lower percentages, so we'll see in the next day or so if it's actually fixed or not.

I understand your point but my watch has been stuck to 59% for 15 minutes. This is far from the expected behavior, even past the 50% threshold

For those of you who are saying the 8.5.1 update did not fix charging with the Belkin 3-in-1 charger, did you also update your iPhone to 15.4.1? For me the issue ***seems*** to be fixed. I am am saying this cautiously since I only charged my watch once since the update and it did charge seemingly fast. Before the update my watch would not even charge at all on the mentioned charger.

I updated both my phone and my watch, waited until I was in the 20’s for battery level, and put it on the Belkin fast charger (stand-alone, not 3-in-1), and it stayed at the same level for 30 minutes. I restarted it and put it on the Apple fast charger and it was full in 35 minutes.

I did notice something - when I took the watch off the charger, it remained in charge mode - nightstand display horizontal or vertical with the charge symbol still showing, even though I was well out of charger range. It stayed that way for over a minute, which is why I restarted.

I do plan to follow-up with Belkin and Apple over the next few days - hopefully we can find out if there are plans to fix it.

I take it back. watchOS 8.5.1 did not fix the charging issue for me.

I confirm - I also had this issue on 8.5.x, only turning off AW and keeping on charger worked. Original out of box charger connected to laptop with usb-c.

confirmation here as well… update to 8.5.1 only helps for about 24 hours (as does hard-rebooting which I’d guess does essentially the same to some storage-component as FW-updates). After that you‘re back to turning the AW7 off before putting it on the charger (any fast-charge compatible charger that is). The issue is also being discussed on Reddit, so here is to hoping that Apple eventually will fix it.

PS: wasn‘t there a similar issue right after the initial release? I can‘t tell because until I got mine delivered the issues had been fixed…

I'm fortunate enough not to have had an issue with the included Apple charger, but my Belkin is certainly not working correctly any longer. Like others here, I went through a number of steps with Belkin support and ultimately was told that they will continue investigating, but it's likely going to require a software update on Apple's end to restore functionality to the charger. ?
