FCP 6 and RED support at NAB

I can't find a better place to add this info, but i have a reliable source that says Apple will release FCP 6 at NAB, and make a joint announcement to team up with the folks at RED to support the RED camera natively. That is very big news for filmmakers and those in pro video.

this is just mean if not

:)

we're getting our taxes back and i've got permission to pull the trigger :)

giddy up :)

Well, this could be nothing, but as some of you know I pulled the trigger
and ordered a MacPro on saturday afternoon. Yesterday they emailed me
the shipping info (FedEx). Normally that info that says "Status:
Package data transmitted to FedEx" has changed by now - at least
based on my experience with other orders from Apple. Apparantly FedEx
doesn't yet have the box.

It has shown an estimated delivery date of April 3rd since early yesterday morning.
I know, I know today is monday and all that but still, I've had prior experiences with ordering from Apple
on a saturday before and believe this
could be a price drop with addition of new MacPros. Why? because the don't
actually charge the full amount on the card until shipping. Not sure if I'm
explaining myself well or not and this could be a serious stretch, but just thought
I would throw that out there.

i would have to say that the mac books pros will be updated tomarrow with a new card and prossesor but no new case design. It is unlikly to have such a mac pro update on a day without a event.

The Inquirer is claiming that Clovertown-based Mac Pros may finally see the light of day tomorrow. However, the site has a limited rumor record, and the precise timing of the announcement of Clovertown-based Mac Pros has even eluded traditionally reliable AppleInsider.

A more plausible time-frame for a Mac Pro refresh may be Apple's NAB special event, which one earlier page 2 rumor had indicated would bring updated Mac Pros with HD media support.

Some of The Inquirer's prior rumor record can be found here.

Depends how you look at it, a Mac Pro in the same enclosure could be launched without much fanfare, however if they would change the design , they would probably want to blow a few trumpets :)

This white badge remark could simply mean a white apple logo, to make it a little more visible on these machines, still not enough to blow trumpets in my mind.
Whenever they come out, I am curious if they are going to be running at 3Ghz plus speeds.......

Not going to happen. NAB and WWDC will reveal all... iPhone, Leopard, Mac Pros, iMacs, MacBooks, MacBook Pros, Mac minis, iLife Leopard and iWork Leopard (no more calendar-based naming scheme). Patience...

You are probably correct ~Shard~, but perhaps tomorrow will yield a nice surprise for us after all. :)

Hey Apple, maybe you should think about keeping up with current technology in a timely fashion. Just a thought.

Are there any other computer companies out there selling pro machines with absolutely no option for the quad-core processors?

I'm in a similar situation and this made me laugh. But, I'm not going to get a Mac Pro. I really want a maxed iMac 24"... waiting though to see what may come.

What are you going to do with 8 cores?! :)

well, tomorrow is the first tuesday in april.... lol

i doubt it will happen but you never know, apple has been known to be spontaneous.

Well, if it does, I will definitely gloat with the obligatory "told 'ya so!"

Of course, if it happens at NAB unlike I think, I will shrink and cower in humility.

It is highly possible that apple might release it tomorrow because they always release their desktops 2 weeks prior a major convention so that it can showcased at the convention. I remembered that happening with the release of the G5's and I think a similar thing happened with the Mac Pros.

Probably something like this.
2.66GHz 8 core Clovertown Mac Pro
2GB (2x1GB)
500GB Hard Drive 7200-rpm Serial ATA
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
price: $2999

2.33Ghz 8 Core Clovertown Mac Pro
1GB (2x512MB)
250GB Hard Drive 7200-rpm Serial ATA
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
price: $2599

How do they generally go about something like this? At midnight EST? by 8am? whats the norm?

I'm not hopeful for nutin, but I REALLY need a desktop! and now would be the perfect time, when my MBP has to get sent to the doctor!

When they anounced the G5s. At 11am eastern time I went on their site and it was under contruction. Around 1pm I got into their site and banm!! "Introducing the new G5" I was so mad considering I had bought a G4 dual 1.42ghz just three weeks prior.

What if Apple decides to introduced them on a wednesday or thursday, it has happened! :D

Nope. Product introduction dates are generally driven by the realities of shipping timelines and the cost of keeping unannounced inventory in storage. This is most true in the computer, home entertainment (CDs/DVDs) and consumer electronics industries.

Hardware will almost always be introduced on Tuesdays to maximize availability, minimize unprofitable storage, minimize potential storeroom theft and capitalize on the news cycle.

Software has the potential to be introduced on a Friday or Saturday to maximize retail sales and reduce call center volume, since users will have 48-60 hours to 'mess' with the product before the workweek becomes a factor.

If Apple does announce new Macs, it'll happen between 8am and 12pm EDT. If not, I wouldn't expect new Mac Pros until NAB -- which would make me sad, as my ADC Hardware Discounts expire on the 5th and I would prefer to pick up a 2nd Gen Mac Pro (I don't have the cash to renew my Premiere membership -- I've hardly used it in the last year, anyway.)

Does anyone know if the new mac pro would have fb-dimm or so-dimm? Is it the processor or the motherboard that dictates the type used? Now that I'm on the subject, what exactly is the difference? I hear fb-dimm is better suited for servers or situations where there is lots of parallel information, while so-dimm is better for a single user environment, where there are fewer tasks but they should be run faster.
