In spite of all our moaning, the video cards are still the same. How come only yanks get this "update"? Is the processor overclocked, cos I though it only went to 2.66? I'd rather have waited 2 weeks for a more significant update, I think. Oh well, hopefully there'll still be new displays at NAB.

Is it available in the USA only? I've checked for UK and HK stores and no update. Not that I can afford the 8-core anyway! Yeah, and a price drop for the quad core would have been nice.

underwhelmed

All i see is a new processor type.. which ppl could do themselves since Nov. (granted not 3ghz, but 2.66) this is still a Rev 1 MP.. no improved graphics card selection :( , no FSB increase or RAM capacity. NO blue-ray, same everything. Same, case.

Not what i was waiting for. I sure hope this is a stop-gap update till June.

I totally called it! (That they would be released before NAB).

To all you naysayers out there,
pfffffft!

8-cores Mac Pro are up on the apple site :apple: yes finally

Am I the only one disappointed? No price reduction on the 2.66 or 3.0 quad-core; no new graphics cards ... while 8-core is certainly nice, I was hoping for a price reduction on the 3.0 quad-core.

there used to be a small HD option which took off $100 or so but it looks like thats gone... sigh, i was hoping for a price drop also... think that might happen around NAB or can i click Check Out Now yet?

I agree with dmelgar wholeheartedly as well. I know this topic's been beaten to death, but in order for Apple to compete head to head in the Intel world they need to get a mid-range desktop machine halfway between the Mac mini and the Mac Pro.

I have an idea for a mid-range computer to fit between the $500 Mini and the $2500 Mac Pro. I'm thinking about $1500. Let's take a portable computer's innards, a 17"/20"/24" LCD screen, a built in camera and a couple of other things and package it neatly in an all-in-one desktop design.

Since I thought of it, lets call it the MyMac. No, that doesn't seem right. OurMac? YourMac? There's got to be a better name for it...

8 core mac now shipping

Apple started selling this morning 4/3/07 8 core mac pros. :D

So, now these 8-cores are out I need some advice. I have the cash for one but do I need that power? I am a musician running Logic Pro, loads of synth emulation going on and I can currently max out my Macbook Pro with out too many problems.

Will an 8 core processor really help or should I save some cash and stick to a quad?

Anyone?

ps. To all you Tuesday obsessives, happy Wednesday!!!

I hear what you're saying. How about just "Mac" or xMac.

I guess the wait is still in actve mode for you:D
This is the way Apple do business. I'm surprize that they didn't hack the price of the 8-cores higher considering all the hipe on many forums.

Don't worry you are not alone I too am still on wating mode;)

I'm in no real hurry. My 6-year old PowerMac is still working just fine. I was hoping to retire it but looks like it might wait until summer (hopefully).

Still no sign of anything resembling an Octo-mac on th UK store....The numbers are positively leaping of my credit card in anticipation.....:p

Amazing...

so we get the most powerful processors Intel makes for consumers and you guys are still bi*ching. It is clear that some people will never be happy. If you are so hell bent on getting a machine that meets your spec's, build it yourself. Plain and simple. My mac pro is far from outdated or behind the times. It hasn't stuttered once and I have pushed it plenty. It's clear you never plan on buying one so relax already. This "Apple should do this or they suck" mentality is getting super annoying. Apple is pretty clear on how they operate their business, so I'm not sure why you all waste your time. Go do some work. :)

Not towards all just the certain few that will always complain. Proceed in your bashing but I really don't care.

Exactly Mr. Massiv,

I wish people would be a bit more appreciative sometimes.

I am really pleased that the octo-pro has been release running tiger as all my current software will run fine. I was thinking it may be Leopard only and I would have to wait for all my software to catch up. So for that , apple, I thank you....:) :) :)

I was hoping for a slight price drop on the stock version of the Mac Pro. A new video card would have been nice too.

Yeah me too, this sucks. I thought there would be at least a $200.00 drop
on the base model 2.66 beast. Ditto on the graphics card as well.

Apple Mac! iMac is probably taken by Cisco.

How about a system like a low end mac pro, cheap 3.5" hard drive(s), no display.

But my biggest beef is that Apple hasn't dropped the prices of their systems. I've been going around defending how Apple isn't overpriced anymore. They have good prices when the systems are announced, but a year later, its not looking too good.
