This will harm the Apple brand. People will likely buy this as their first iPhone, and if they have a bad experience (constantly running out of space, not able to take videos/photos, not able to do OTA updates) they will likely never buy Apple again. I thought Apple was all about quality - scrimping on such a basic spec as storage space is not like them.

People are saying "just don't buy it" well no **** sherlock, but that is not the point. In making an 8 GB iPhone again Apple is setting a bar. What many seem to think should be the base (32 GB) will never be the base and the cost to jump from 8 to 32 is going to be substantial. Many have expressed that in another year 8 GB won't even cut it, this is likely true. Again, apps continue to take up more space. I have 28 GB of usable space on my 32 GB 4S. I have 552 MB left. I have far too many apps, this is a fact, but recently I deleted any app I didn't use in the last 6 months and was left with only 8 GB free. I have no more than 2000 songs on my iPhone and hundreds of pictures.

People who say that the 8GB is good for mama, super. Wait until mama wants to download 10 apps and then save a video of her kid. Good luck with that on the newer phones that have better video capability; the 5C.

The point is not to skip buying, that is an obvious option if I ever saw one. It is that if $399 gets you an iPhone 5C 8 GB (for example) then won't the 32 GB iPhone 5C be some ridiculous price? I think so. If you wipe away 8 and 16, perhaps at least in the 5S, 6 models, then Apple can sell the 32 for $399, make a killing, still pay those poor workers at Foxconn and Tim can still buy all the hookers and blow he wishes.

I'm confident many consumers will love this new option in the iPhone product family. This new option meets the needs of those who want the very best phone on the marketplace, but they only want to use a few everyday apps like Facebook, Twitter, Dominos Pizza, Notes and Mail.

I'm definitely excited to see how many new customers buy one of these awesome devices.
So there's a big market and following for that Dominos Pizza app, huh? Who knew the day would come when it would rank with Notes, Facebook, Mail and Twitter. Notes being a base app that no one can delete anyway.
Thanks for checking in Tim.
I LOL'ed, literally. It did sound like a spokesman for Apple.

I really hate the storage scheme which Apple plays. That's one hell of a greedy plot.

Imo this is just Apple trying to phase out the legacy dock connector without introducing a new product. It's a stop gap measure before the next real refresh.

They've had 8GB phones for years now—YEARS—but this will harm the brand?

Puh-lease.

Also, Apple has been "skimping" on storage space since the beginning of time. History is our friend.

Corporations? Trying to make money? Blasphemy!

8GB is enough for mama to do exactly what you described, and not a lot more. I know, because that's precisely how my dad uses his 8GB iPhone. And once mama is hooked on her phone, she's a locked-in customer. And when it comes time for mama to upgrade, she can decide if that's meeting her needs, or if she wants to splurge for 16GB or even 32GB down the road (which, being mama, she probably won't).

Free? For the China Market?

If the iPhone 5C with 8GB would you sign up for a new plan from Tmobile? Quite possibly.
What if you had an 11 year old that you wanted to have the same phone as you? You would want a low cost phone to give to the kid because you know its going to get lost, stolen, or damaged.

What if you were in China, and most phones were 8GB, and low cost?

What if you already had an iPad 32gb and only need the iPhone for email and to tether your iPad? I fall into this category and might consider it.

Apple is probably looking at its options to expand its market to others. Those of you complaining will probably just buy the larger memory that is offered for a price.

Apple's iOS is the most reliable software operating system I have probably used since the late 1970s. It has the most applications probably ever written - some of which are pretty good. Stop your whining already - go buy an Android and try it for a while. Better still, the Windows phone is probably more reliable - it just does not have as many applications that you can download.
