Id imagine the lightening pencil is "while supplies last" but apple cant really market their lightening products as "old stock"
Apple never ever warn an item is at end of its life, and will only be around while stocks last. So this is a possibility for sure.

If they'd given it Pressure Sensitivity it would've replaced the first gen pencil entirely. Now it's both better and worse than the first gen Apple Pencil... why?

Why on earth does this pencil have a female USB-C port?????? It's ridiculous, when they could have just given it a male port so it could plug directly into the port on the iPad
They have probably dealt with a large number of people coming into store with broken iPads and Pencils caused by unfortunate accidents while pencil has been charging in iPad. Still, to this day Im amazed they even entertained this as an option. It ranks worse than the way Magic Mouse is charged.

I mean USB-C would be fine as an additional alternative charging method to the wireless attach it to the iPad method, but this feature cut pure USB-C version is pathetic.

Thank good Apple is not Sony, otherwise they would re-release a tape based Walkman again.

Then people should by the $10 stylus. And save a ton of money. And doom Apple in the process. :)

I can think of a lot of business-related iPad applications where pressure sensitivity isn't needed.

Apple has thought this through. Despite what many HERE believe, Apple isn't oblivious.
But you are assuming apple as thought it through for consumers to benefit but that's not true as we have seen. And everyone knows they're not oblivious...... they're greedy

Nope. Apple has done their research and determined that for many business applications, where pressure sensitivity isn't needed, a 20% less expensive Pencil makes a lot of sense.

That isn't being greedy, that's recognizing a market opportunity. They'll sell a lot of them, to the dismay and unhappiness of many here.

There probably is a real justification, but not one that is anything that any user would ever see. The internal chip that is the brains of the beast could very well be the same as that in the Pencil 2, which would save a lot of development and manufacturing cost. Leaving out the pressure sensor itself would save some cost and could improve "ruggedness", which is important in the education/student market.

This is obviously a pencil that artists should avoid like the plague. It's for students and others that just need to take notes and/or want/need something slightly more advanced than a passive "pokie stick". I just which they'd colored it yellow like a classic #2 pencil to help distinguish it from the more advanced pencils.

I can't see any conceivable justification to keep HOVER and not pressure sensitivity. Apple could do all sorts of things to cut costs, from offering less pressure sensitivity to not offering hovering and making the stylus cheaper.

But most important, they should call this stylus something else too. Someone suggested "Apple Pencil Lite" and I agree it would be a better name option.

The 2nd gen pencil doesn’t work with the 9th or 10th gen iPads which are still sold as new. Indeed, it’s a mess.

How are you suppositive that this pin is made just for business? If it was a business they would just buy the other ones in bulk and get a discount and that would make a lot more sense for Apple to do as well instead of creating a third pencil and driving up manufacturing costs. This pin is priced exactly about the price where people might impulse buy because of his price. Whereas the other pins are at a price were most people are not going to impulse buy even if it is only $20. That $20 looks a lot different in people's minds

The first gen Pencil only still exists because the 9th gen iPad still exists to be the lowest priced iPad.
It also still exists because many people own a Pencil 1 compatible iPad, like the mini 5 that was still on the market just two years ago, and because Pencil batteries don’t last forever. It should remain available for some years to come.

There is a way to replace the Apple Pencil bateries, but that requires tearing the device apart, replacing the batteries, and then replace the product case with a 3D-printed one. So far, I've only seen this being done in Russia and Thailand. It's not rocket science to do, but it's a big hassle.

I've already addressed this in previous posts.

Because the Apple Pencil 2 has regular discounts on Amazon, it will be nice to see what kind of discounts a $79 pencil will get in the future!

There's no justification at all for the hover support + lack of pressure support. Hovering is just a cosmetic feature; pressure sensitivity is an ESSENTIAL feature for dynamic lines.
If you need pressure then you get the Pencil 2, not the low end iPad and low end Pencil. For someone just taking notes, doing simple drawings, or tapping on buttons, pressure sensitivity is not needed. People have different needs and different budgets.

9: It’s a downgrade from the previous model in every way possible.

10. Just buy the previous model at the same ”reduced” price from a 3rd party seller.

They did that with the lightning Pencil 1 and everyone laughed at it.

You can use a USB-C cable to charge this pencil from the iPad’s USB-C port. Just keep a cheap cable in your bag. I’m sure the idea hear is that you charge while at home and then you don’t need to charge for several days.
