I created an account, and without doing anything on Twitter asked for my data (possible since GDPR I think). Got the .pdf and it has the following crap:

I would have had each manager set up a meeting with each person and talk to them. A phone or video call would have been more respectful.
Lots of them don't even live in the state they are employed in. It would be way too expensive to send managers out individually to 4,000 people. It may be more respectful, but it isn't practical. If it were 10 or 20 people, sure, but 4,000?

It's all going swimmingly since the roll out !

I could do with more competence and a lot less comedy in my country’s corporations…
While I have no opinion on Elon one way or the other, you have to admit the guy knows how to make money. He was co-creator of PayPal and is CEO of more companies than most people will ever work for. The second he goes public with SpaceX and Neuralink, he could very well be the world's first trillionaire. He's owned Twitter for a grand total of two weeks. Give it time, especially with so many people trying to sabotage him. I don't doubt his ability to make the company profitable in the long run.

Lol. Can you show me an example of an unmoderated* space on the internet where “the best ideas bubble to the top”?

*where all US 1st Amendment protected speech is allowed.
Musk never said it would be fully unmoderated and neither did I. But I gave examples of the type of information Twitter censored, how they were one sided, and how that hurt discourse and spread misinformation while claiming to stop misinformation which was pure propaganda.

I did on the day it was announced. I am going out of my way not to spend money on companies that advertise on Twitter. I don't see the point of the platform anymore. Just let it die.
Are are you feedbacking all the sponsors why you're not patronizing them anymore?

I am a neuroscientist. Neuralink won't earn that much. In general, people only choose to make their brain a pin cushion if they absolutely have to.

I feel like most are missing the actual impact of these:

FEWER BOTS

By adding this you can better identify who is likely to be a real person. I would not be surprised to see this evolve into a 'show only twitter blue replies' feature.

In terms of the feature this is probably more about ensuring 'real' and less about ensuring specifically 'who'.

It actually makes bots more likely, as it's super easy to automate payment things like this. This is how the scalpers get all the xboxes/ps5's.

It's more likely as theres now more incentive for them to do it, as people will think that it's less likely to be a bot

I said a phone or video call.

Canceling my Netflix subscription to pay for the check mark ✔️.

my netflix is free from Tmo. otherwise it would have been toast also. my subscription axe has been awakened by the AppleOne Premier price hike. Now I just want to cancel everything. Apple already sending me a free 3 month offer for their worthless Arcade.

I feel like they are going to end up like MySpace. People aren’t into it anymore like they used to be. Facebook is being used by folks that are in the older generation. Twitter is being used by bots. It is getting closer to its demise. Maybe AR/VR will take over (Only by Apple, not Meta).
Biggest thing that turns me off about Twitter is that it seems every screen scroll has an ad. That's a LOT of ads. (For me anyway).

Can't wait until every ad I see is crypto bro scams/exchanges/SHIB peddlers at the rate Twitter is losing advertisers.

Maybe there's a plan here...

Or maybe EM is making it up on a day to day basis and seeing what sticks <<< I think that this is happening.

I think that we should all stop caring about what happens to Twitter and to Facebook - they're not 'the internet' nor are they utilities.

Nor are they the 'web's town square'.

They're publicly traded / privately held companies where we - the customer - are the product.

The web was never about letting powerful companies dominate but a network of smaller sites and organisations.

In that regard, Mastodon is an organisation we should be celebrating more IMHO.

So please don't blame me if I relax with some popcorn and enjoy the probable 'Yahoo-ification' of Twitter i.e. a slide into irrelevancy.

Oh dang yes! Arcade is junk. A few fun games here and there but not worth it.

So the verified badge means nothing now. I should go make a Trump account and signup for the badge. lol. This is not going to end well.
You'll get banned for impersonation like the other accounts but if you want to donate 8 bucks to Elon, go ahead

people laugh, but he is going to generate millions from this.
No matter what folks may think about the guy it appears he is bringing outside resources to help clean up the mess to reduce fake accounts, bots, spam etc. and introduce accountability to the platform representing independent content creators around the planet. I'm okay this this. As far as those complaining about a fee (similar to what Apple charges for their news service/month as a middle person for these services) I suppose that's the beautiful thing as one may choose to stay or leave the platform, at least we have that choice.

I am not sure what this whole issue about fake accounts and verifying identities is. I am not convinced they are serious about eliminating fake accounts. Otherwise they could try to do what Airbnb does

There are other services out there, like the DMV in California that uses third party identity verification services. It is doable. I just don't believe there is the will to do it at Twitter, earlier or now. Those fake accounts generate real anger and hate in people that drives more eyeballs into their service. If one gets rid of the anonymity and "fakeness" the whole house of cards crumbles down. My 2 cents.
