Complete B.S.!
I could understand a $50, Hell even a $75 price drop... but $200
I will never buy a first generation of anything from Apple!
At least give existing customers a iTunes credit!
B.S.!!!

Just got back from the Alderwoon Mall Apple store and could not be happier. I walked in and talked to the only open sales person, who also happened to be a manager, and they were more then happy to give me the credit for both of my iPhones as long as I had the reciept for them. I hope they are going to do something for all the people that went to an AT&T store.

Same here. They were very polite and said it was a store thing, their store manager did it. After she refunded both of my iphones, I asked if it was a company wide thing or a store wide thing. She said she was pretty sure it was a store wide thing, but was a little hesitant. Seems like a store by store basis as I called a different seattle store and they adhered to the 2 week policy. But perhaps word from corporate is just getting out slow.

For those who don't believe me, I can take pics of the receipts. I am just happy to have a refund. 340 back is great.

Thanks again Luxord, I wouldnt have an extra 340 if it wasn't for you!

Welcome to the world of technology. Learn these:

1. Technology changes quickly and the market with it.

2. There are no guarantees when you purchase an electronic product that it will remain the latest and greatest for more than a day.

3. Please read 1 & 2 again.

"Prices do get adjusted over time. But a 35% adjustment 2 months later is not a reduction. It's a 'correction.' It's Apple stating "In our eyes, this brand-new product that is not yet obsolete or dated, is not worth 600 dollars in our belief."

Like every other iPhone owner here I am very disappointed with this. I expected a price drop but not 33% in 60 days. A $100 drop would have been significant, they didn't need to do this for months.

My only hope is that the reason they guided earnings lower this quarter due to 'product changes' is related to a rebate they will offer existing iPhone users.

This is the first time I would say that I would consider not buying Apple going forward as they should be looking after their early adopters a little better than this. Nobody will trust their first gen pricing after this, at least a rebate would indicate that they just got the pricing wrong, they didn't deliberately set it to screw the early adopters.

I agree 100%! Both sides of this argument are taking it to the extreme. I'm happy with my $600 phone, but I won't buy a first release product from apple again. This is a bad business decision by SJ IMHO. I am also quite disappointed in the ignorance of the members on this forum. I expected more from the community. Thanks for making it easier for the rest of us to get ahead in this world!

WOW. Just WOW!

Here is a thought experiment for all you whiners:

Imagine if Apple INCREASED the price of the iPhone but made no material changes to the product. Then they called each and everyone of you early adopters and demanded that you pay the difference between what you originally paid and what the current asking price is.

Of course, everyone would be up in arms and rightfully so. You made a contract at the point of sale and when Apple handed over the iPhone and you handed over your money, the transaction was concluded.

This thread is kind of funny as there are really only two types of people posting:

People complaining who bought their iPhone more than 14 days ago.

People complaining about people complaining who are happy because they can now afford to buy an iPhone.

Not true  There are THREE kinds, because now I'm complaining about you complaining about people complaining about people complaining :D ;)

But you've actually summed up pretty much every thread discussing great news from Apple: much whining, and much failure to understand the whining. The stereotype that Apple fans will only praise Apple and never criticize them could not be farther from the truth.

So true!:D
Too bad I am the former!

Let me call all the whiners about the individuals with legitimate complaints about this ridiculous price drop a WAAAAMBULANCE. I find it humorous that you have taken the time to read through all the comments, and end up whining about everyone whining, which makes you a hypocrite.

People have legitimate reason to be upset. Two months after justifying the steep costs of $499 and $599, Apple lowers the price by 33% for a product that was made successful by the million plus iPhone owners. How can you justify a HUGE price drop in such a short period of time? Has the technology in the device become that much cheaper or was the device that over inflated? Further, lowering the price so that it is cheaper than the original price of the 4 GB lower end unit is laughable. It doesn't add up, technology doesn't evolve THAT quickly and even if it did, companies should take consideration of the impact such an extreme act will have on their loyal customers.

From what I've seen, this thread is split right down the middle, mostly divided between those who own the iPhone being upset and those who don't slamming and insulting the owners who have a legitimate right to be upset. Perhaps walking a mile in someone else's shoes might do a few people some good here...

You guys are crazy if you don't understand why people are mad. I went to my grocery store yesterday and bought milk for $4.49. Today they had it for $2.99. That is over 33% off. I am mad. I can't believe there is something in the world that is cheaper than what I paid. Yeah I know I agreed to pay $4.49 for the milk but It is not fair. I am now going to have to go by the Kotex aisle and pick something up.

/sarcasm off

Learn business people. Apple released a product for $600. When sales started declining, to stop that decline, they lowered the price so that the sales curve goes up(good for business), not down (bad for business). Guess what. This phone will drop in price again once the sales curve begins to decline. This is probably a price point I will purchase at. If it drops to $1 next month I will surely go and see if I can get a price adjustment, but if not oh well. I decided to enter a contract at $399.

My work also decided to enter a contract at what they pay me. If they can find someone to do my job for half the price they will surely jump at the chance. That is business.

BTW I was a person who paid $399 for my blackjack to see it drop to $149 or so 4 weeks later. Didn't complain one bit.

Then they've still retained you as a customer, why should they care about compensating you for this price drop, it's not as if you're going to stop giving them money.

In that 9 weeks of cool off period, my impulse to buy the new shinny thing might have waned.

This really is a great price now. Before it was a lot, but you got bleeding edge. Now its reasonable, and you get bleeding edge. Only a short while until I can go into Regents Street and play on a (hopefully 3G) iPhone :)

Well I'm glad I waited. Everybody should wait for the new iPods to go down in price too. Watch It'll happen.

Wirelessly posted (SonyEricssonP1i/R100 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Symbian OS; 598) Opera 8.65 [en])

my sony ericsson P1i price dropped 10% in 2 weeks here. why is everyone pissed? it's nothing new.

That is business.

Bad business maybe. Because YOU are crazy if you don't think people are sincerely enraged enough by this "business" move to not support Apple products in the future. This isn't nerd rage...there are a massive amount of normal consumers who feel they have been short-changed...and they are more than willing to express that anger where it hurts Apple the "company" most. Stay tuned.

No, there are plenty of "iPhone users who paid $600 who are insulting the owners who are whiny bitches about paying $600." A transaction is a transaction, end of story. Past and future don't enter into it once the transaction is over. It was $600, for whatever reason. Now, for whatever reason, it's $400. The only person you can be mad at for paying $600 is yourself. You understood it was $600 when you bought it, and were willing to pay that much. Or you weren't, and you're complaining about it now.

When did you buy the phone? A little more info??

Maybe the Mods should make two separate threads about refund solutions. One for Apple Store purchases, and one for AT&T store purchases. Each post would have what the solution was, and how that person got it along with details of purchase date and what not.

How To: Feel Better About The iPhone Price Drop

Anyway, in the grand scheme of things, $200 isn’t such a big price drop as it seems. AT&T’s cheapest monthly plan is $70 (after fees and taxes). And then there’s the $35 activation fee. So the total cost of ownership over the 2 year contract is now $2,115 (down from $2,315).

Don’t think of today’s announcement as a 33% price drop. It’s really only a 9% price drop.

Feel better?

:)

My apologies if this has already been mentioned in the past 800+ posts....

If you think of the iPhone as a mobile phone instead of just an "Apple product," this price drop isn't even newsworthy, IMO. Early adopters of ANY hot new mobile phone need to understand that within a year or two, their precious little pieces of cutting-edge technology will go from $500 each to free with your purchase of a two-year wireless contract. That's just the way it is.

Just because it runs OSX doesn't make it a Mac. It's a mobile phone, so Apple is going to mimic the successful business model of other mobile phone manufacturers. That's all this is....

about $200 price drop

Hello, everyone

I'm one of them who bought iPhone on Jun 29th. I'm really happy with the fact that this greatest phone is in my hand, however, i have some opinion about the price drop.

Not to against you all who are all interested in iPhone here, i'm gonna separate in three categories.
1. People who will get iPhone because of this price drop.
2. People who already bought iPhone before this announcement, specially first day adoptors.
3. People who like iPhone, but not planning to buy anytime soon.

1.
I'm happy for you all. This is great phone to have!! Also, the fact that you now could get same capability at 399, it is no brainer deal. I respect your paitient to wait for 2 months and is very smart of you.

2.
Hey we are in the same boat. Let's just try to make Apple aware that WE are the one who really supported their innovative movement in technology and that they should not cut off those people because we will most likely the one who will support next new product from Apple again if treated right. Without these people, the company will never be able to launch or get success in agressive new products, which will continue for coming generations of the products. I already sent message on iPhone share site on Apple. Let's voice. And let me know more ways I can talk to Apple (site etc.). If we are loud enough, they could do something about it, they did for Apache(?, its software, different category though), why not for iPhone. It might not be that hard for them because of quater earning cutoff etc.

3.
Maybe you guys are the smartest ones, but hey life is not sometime only about being smart. You gatta enjoy it! You might not be able to trip black hole and come bak in your life time, but you can have iPhone!! LOL.. So i hope u all decide to ride on this sometime soon ;)

ATT People...call 611 from your mobile and tell them what happened. Be nice! They refunded 200 to my ATT Account.

yeah when exactly did you purchase your iphone. if it was the 2 week period, and they still gave you back your money then that sounds like a plan for me...

Apple, Rotten to the core.

Apple showed their true colors today by screwing their loyal customers out of $200 (more when you factor in all the additional fees when switching services). I hope they get a ton of bad press for this. I sent them a letter as soon as I heard the news. I should of kept the Treo and Verizon. Thanks Steve
