As told to a friend...

well I want apple to take over the world so donating an extra $200 to them is a small price to pay... lol

Idiots!!!

I don't know why all you fan boys are complaining about the price drop. It is the price you pay for adopting new technology first. Just like when the first Razr's came out they were over $400 bucks. Now you can get them for free. This is actually pretty standard. Maybe next time you won't waste your hard earned cash so quickly.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Just called an Apple store and they refused to refund the difference if its purchased past the 14 day limit. They stated it was instructions given by Apple corporate. Fanboy tax indeed.

Realistic

Let's be realistic, most people who bought their iPhone before the price drop are going to be unhappy with Apple. Yah we all saw this coming but not so soon. It's a slap int he face.

Also that Apple is doing this for holiday sales is BS. Most people do not start holiday shopping at the beginning of September. This is Apple's way of trying to correct the sale of the device without looking like it failed..."it's for the holiday season guys!" I guarantee if Apple was happy with the sales the price would be the same and the iPod touch would not have been unveiled till 2008.

I think all of us spurned should ban together and force Apple to do something to rectify this. Anyone have a good address to write them at. I called but I just got their general 1 Infinite Loop Address.

I'm sure someone brought this up....
For the people who have received a refund of $200, is it a flat $200 or is it adjusted for taxes (e.g.: $216.25, inclusive of estimated NY sales tax)?

Theoretically - say that Apple gives you a flat $200 refund without refunding the proper tax adjustment, they could claim the remaining tax dollars to the SEC/U.S. Government and say that they "issued a refund" and could receive a tax break on sales of the original iPhone price. Basically, I am saying that you should have received more than $200 for tax-adjusted purposes.

Estimation (NY Based):
100,000 iPhones sold in NY (could be higher/lower, but I'm not too sure of exact sale numbers - using 10% (decent assumption) of 1,000,000 total units sold to represent sales figures in NY)

X-amount of iPhone users x $16.25 (tax that you paid on that $200) = claim amount

100,000 X $16.25 = $1.625mn Apple netted in illegal tax-benefits (theoretically).

I am not making a FUD proposal, I own an iPhone (bought it on iDay) and I also am an Apple stockholder.

Any thoughts on this...?

Both mine were returned as shown on receipt (no tax as I bought in OR), then reapplied to new 399 price. I had to pay tax, but still made back 165 per phone. These were phones bought on release day as well.

Another good note about this, says my warranty is good until Sept. now! Seems like the return and resell reset the warranty! Awesome!

Remember when early adoption meant dealing with issues, like the white spots on rev A 15" powerbooks, or nano scratching? Yes I bought the iPhone day one, and I was happy. However I did think the initial price point of $599 was a bit on the expensive side, but defended the price because I believed what Steve got up and sold us. That the iPhone was worth the $599 because it was three devices in one. Now you're telling me that the same device is now worth 67% of its initial price 68 days later? Why not wait another 68 days for a $265 iPhone or after that, $177 68 days from there?

I'm just wondering if I should do the same for the iPod touch (wait) I don't want to spend any more than I need to. I think I will buy anyway, my library is not that big ( i want the 16 gig)

Well...I have to say when I first heard that it was a good punch in the gut but I'd still pay 600 for what I got and I'm sure all of you who bought one would. ( mostly) Although I wouldn't mind a iTunes gift card  Not to mention the 34 hours I stood in line for was worth the 300 $ I got to connect with some really cool people and got free water from Apple (see, they didn't totally screw us)

.

has anyone contacted either of the NYC stores? I'm on hold with apple customer "service" now...

Sorry, but the RAZR didn't drop by that much in only 68 days, so that's hardly a valid comparison.

What is the ATT credit program? Ok can we all just stop getting at each other and post whats actually working and whats not. Some people are saying that Apple is giving them refunds. Is this true?

I SO wasn't expecting this. $100 cheaper then the 4 GB model and double the capacity? Wow. And, it's only $100 more then the cheapest iPod Touch. It's going to sell really well; it's the best phone on the market..for a GREAT price.

You can't compare the Razor to this. As it was explained before phones like the razor are subsidized.

report back if you dont mind .... i'd like to hear about those stores, an nj stores too, specifically menlo park ....

Bought two on release day, two months ago. Just today they were both credited 200 each. This was under the apple store manager orders at lynnwood, wa. If a pic of my receipt will help sway your manager, let me know.

hey, did you do it on the phone or did you go to the store? i bought mine at southscenter, but i live pretty far away from the stores.

Great googley-moogley. Just give it a rest, will you? Should every company that decides to lower their price give you a refund if you purchased their product in the last month or two? NO. Just suck it up and be happy. I'm personally happy that all the BITCHING about how "expensive" the iPhone is will likely quiet down. I'm sad it will be replace for the next month with people wondering if they can somehow go back in time and wait two weeks.... or a month... or two months. All human suffering is caused by denying reality. Stop denying that you wanted to buy an iPhone when you bought it. It's not as if Apple "tricked" you or something. They wanted to spur sales, so they lowered the price for Petesake. No... no... I have NO SYMPATHY for this type of behavior. I just want more iPhone owners so Apple can gain leverage and arrange more cool things for everyone.

Man... NOT looking forward to the next month of whining.

AT&T told me the cut off is Aug. 14. Not sure if that is inclusive or exclusive of the 14th. This was via calling 611.

It is funny that when my first iPhone was DOA out of the box, the AT&T store wasn't allowed to help me and I was told to go to Apple. Now, Apple won't assist me with a credit since I bought at an AT&T store.

I just checked my balance and mine had a $214 credit so it was the $200 credit for the price change and $14 for the lovely tax that the city of Philthadelphia tacks on.

So yes AT&T credits tax as well, so if you don't get the tax back as well on a recent purchase you should.
