Bought two on release day, two months ago. Just today they were both credited 200 each. This was under the apple store manager orders at lynnwood, wa. If a pic of my receipt will help sway your manager, let me know.

I would love to see a picture of that, that's the store I bought mine at.

Oh well...

I still love my iPhone, my Mac Pro, my Apple TV.

Having said that - today's move was a bit drastic. If a 16 GB iPhone would have come out at $599 making my iPhone $499 I could have lived with that, that is the way Apple has always worked.

I bought my phone on the big day at an ATT store. I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with a representative and his supervisor Selven Jones at the El Paso, TX call center. I was as nice as could be and only requested something as a sign of good faith - I would have taken a $50 credit...

I was told that the ATT position is that the terms of the contract do not allow them to credit my account for this type of price drop.

If any one has had luck, I would like to know if they can give a name of a supervisor or representative that has credited $200 to your account.

Im not whining, Im not crying, I still love the iPhone, but if they are giving out credits by calling 611 I would like to have it validated some how (a name perhaps?) so that I can call back and tell Mr Jones that he is... ahem... full of it.

I'm just wondering if I should do the same for the iPod touch (wait) I don't want to spend any more than I need to. I think I will buy anyway, my library is not that big ( i want the 16 gig)

But they may lower the price by about 30% in a few weeks, perhaps before it even ships, so why not wait it out? ;)

So ATT is giving credit for purchases before august 14th? Does it have to be purchased at the ATT Store? Also is this only for the 8gb?

Ditto here. I plan to go by the Apple Store later today and raise some serious hell about this.
Count me in. I can understand a small drop in price to get that fatter part of the tech bell curve to join in, rather than just early adopters, but $200 is way too much.
Makes me feel stupid for being one of the early believers. And this will defintely affect how I buy Apple products moving forward for both office and home.

This thread is seriously ridiculous. You're all acting like spoiled children.

I, like many of you, stood in line on 6/29 and bought an 8GB iPhone. I did that because I was prepared to pay $600 to buy it on launch day. I did, and I have been overall happy with my purchase (minus some minor bumps which Apple took care of admirably). Now the price has been dropped $200. Sure, that's $200, but I had already prepared myself to spend $600 on the iPhone. I did so, and have no regrets for doing so. I've thoroughly enjoyed having the phone for these first two months, and I forsee enjoying it well into the future.

If you weren't truly prepared to spend $600, and are now angry that other people will be able to get the same product for less, you really need to re-evaluate the criteria you use to make decisions about purchasing. You paid the price as advertised when you bought it. Now it's cheaper. You aren't owed anything. If you didn't want to spend as much as you did, you shouldn't have bought it at that price.

This is really not something I should have to explain to a board full of people who claim to be adults.

I agree with you 100% about the price drop. I just wish I had opted for the 8GB. Oh well, my other iPods to the rest of the work. Anyway, all I just wanted was a nice device that lets me surf the web, check emails, widgets and such ... and it was well worth the $500. When the iPod Touch was announced, then I felt a bit cheated. I thought about it a bit more, and remembered that I can at least make calls, send text messages, and check the web/email without WiFi even when the power goes out during a bad storm.

At least I was the envy of all my friends for the past 2 months. Every time I pulled it out to check my email or answer a call, they would stare at me and start begging to check it out.

hey, did you do it on the phone or did you go to the store? i bought mine at southscenter, but i live pretty far away from the stores.

Did it in store. Oddly the University Village store said they wouldn't do it, but Lynnwood would. Oh well.

Still working on the pics, need a paint program. Couple secs.

I just got off the phone with my local Apple Store in Buffalo New York. I asked about getting $200 in store credit by showing my receipt for the 8GB iPhone I bought a while ago.

The first time I called today, the manager politely said that they would only refund money if the purchase was within 14 days. After reading posts here, I called back and told the same manager that I talked to Apple (even though I didn't) and that they said it is up to each store manager whether or not to give $200 back as store credit. I told him that I just bought an aluminum iMac and am planning on buying Leopard when it is released. I asked him if he would be willing to extend me $200 of store credit to keep me as a customer. At first he said no, but I pretty much just repeated everything and calmly said that I was pissed off and he hesitantly said he would offer the store credit. He said just to mention his name when I came in and that they would do it. He didn't sound happy and I'm guessing that many people had called and that I was the first person to make him cave.

I will be going to the store on Friday to collect my store credit. I will post back if there are any problems, but it seems like if you are polite and say the right things, you can get your $200 back. I hope this helps some people.

Are they fobbing it off as a promotional offer for the "holiday season"?

Just like "developers can now FINALLY make web 2.0 apps that run on the iPhone that work JUST LIKE the included apps". [Disclaimer: Apple is kidding, their apps aren't web 2.0 apps. There's nothing even near similar that you can do with a web app that would mimic the look and feel of a true iPhone application].

But hey, it sounds GREAT! Loosers.

Just a quick question:

I bought my iPhone just two days ago and I'm going to go return it this Saturday to the AT&T Store where I bought it. Will I encounter any problems and will AT&T already have the 8GB with the price dropped?

What exactly do you plan on suing them for? For making you mad? I don't think that is going to work. I don't think they broke any laws. But I guess it's the American way...if someone makes you mad sue them.

Ask AT&T or Apple if you really want to know...

So ATT is giving credit for purchases before august 14th? Does it have to be purchased at the ATT Store? Also is this only for the 8gb?

I think what I was quoted by the rep was for 8GB ATT in-store purchases. If you purchased from an Apple store, I think you'll have much better odds going back to that store. Some of us with no other choice than ATT brick-and-mortar have at times had a second-class experience throughout.

Heres my receipt:

Done today with two 8 gig phones bought on release day in oregon (no tax). They had to charge me tax, but better getting the 165 back, then fighting and possibly being shot down for it all. I just wanted to get it and get out before corporate or someone else called to stop it.

The way I see it, if they are willing to give it back, I will take it. However if they didn't I would have lived with it, although I wouldn't be all that happy about it. But I did pay 600, so I am not entitled to a refund. I feel that apple did the right thing, as they generally do.

Thanks apple.

Well, I only read through the first page, so if someone has already said this please forgive me.

Just shut up. Everyone said that was going to happen, but no. You just couldn't wait to get it, so that's what happens. You showed it off to your friends and made them feel like crap, and you felt good about it even though anyone with intelligence said to wait a couple months for the update.

So, Apple didn't screw you, you sort of screwed yourself.

Thank you for the response. I wanted to wait until tomorrow for a possible offical response by Apple but I am doubtful that it will come. I guess I have to call Apple to find out.

Write to Apple

Okay trying to sue someone for making you mad is not going to work. But flooding Apple with letters, emails, and calls with our disatisfaction with them might! So Again here is their adress and tel #'s you can call. If anyone has an apple e-mail besides support@apple.com let us know!

FanBoy Rebate Idea

It would be cool if people who paid the premium to buy an iPhone prior to the price cut got the first battery-replacement for free. :D

Loyal Customer Penalty Fee

The iPhone was introduced on June 29. After two months, there was a $200 (33%) price drop. That is no ordinary price drop. It is not a surprise-the-production-costs-are-lower price drop. It is a Roadrunner-chases-Wiley-Coyote-off-a-cliff price drop. There is no way that Apple could have been surprised by a drop in production costs over such a short period of time that would be large enough to cause this huge a drop.

Apple had sales projections, which means they had plans, and that means the $200 price drop was, at least conditionally, planned before the iPhone was even introduced.

Apple is all about user experience, and this is not a good user experience. "Goodwill" is a factor in the value of a business--as any commercial real-estate broker will attest. Apple lost quite a lot of it today. A friend of mine bought an iPhone two weeks ago because of my recommendation. Now it turns out he got ripped off--he paid 150% of the current price. Does anyone seriously expect me to recommend an Apple product to anyone any time soon? Does anyone expect me to buy another Apple product any time soon?

The early adopters made the iPhone a success. Apple owes us big time.

No Compensation Here.

Just called the local Apple store to inquire if they will be offering store credit to those of us who bought iPhones on launch day. Unfortunately this particular store is not. So sounds like it's on a store by store basis. Hope this helps.

Why are you people acting so cheap? You did make a sound decision while buying the iPhone right? Now why act as whiners if the price has slipped? Be an adult and own up to your decisions.

When did you purchase your iPhone from AT&T?

I just checked my balance and mine had a $214 credit so it was the $200 credit for the price change and $14 for the lovely tax that the city of Philthadelphia tacks on.

So yes AT&T credits tax as well, so if you don't get the tax back as well on a recent purchase you should.

Just called Glendale, CA Apple store and they are saying that anything after 14 days is no good. Sad I wish Apple would just release something offical because some people are getting credit and some people are not.
