Why are you people acting so cheap? You did make a sound decision while buying the iPhone right? Now why act as whiners if the price has slipped? Be an adult and own up to your decisions.

This is not just a price slip by the way and it comes after two months. Everyone that bought one early released that at some point the price would go down, but this is drastic and out of line on apple's part, or you would not have this many people pissed off

What was the net amount of your refund? The price of the iPhone was reduced by $200.00. They should refund the $200.00 + plus the sales tax.

Heres my receipt:

Done today with two 8 gig phones bought on release day in oregon (no tax). They had to charge me tax, but better getting the 165 back, then fighting and possibly being shot down for it all. I just wanted to get it and get out before corporate or someone else called to stop it.

The way I see it, if they are willing to give it back, I will take it. However if they didn't I would have lived with it, although I wouldn't be all that happy about it. But I did pay 600, so I am not entitled to a refund. I feel that apple did the right thing, as they generally do.

Thanks apple.

Well, I only read through the first page, so if someone has already said this please forgive me.

Just shut up. Everyone said that was going to happen, but no. You just couldn't wait to get it, so that's what happens. You showed it off to your friends and made them feel like crap, and you felt good about it even though anyone with intelligence said to wait a couple months for the update.

So, Apple didn't screw you, you sort of screwed yourself.

thanks for the compassion. Is that really needed? Did someone compel you to come in here and read people venting? No. Perhaps you disagree with some people, but that is hardly warranted.

Oh and hindsight is 20/20.

What was the net amount of your refund?

Net amount was 165 x 2, so 330. Had two phones on different receipts, this is one of the receipts.

Just saw the revision.

I bought it in Oregon, as I am from Vancouver right across the water. Oregon has no sales tax, so I never paid tax on it in the first place. This time I had to pay the tax on the 399, so it was 434.49, I got 599.99-434.49 = 165.50 or so back per phone.

I'm furious with Apple. They should do something for those of us who paid $200 more two months and a few days ago. It has not even been 3 months. Free Apple care extension, gift card to the iTunes store... I don't know. I've spent a small fortune on Apple products this year. We should ban together and do something. I for one am writing a heated letter

Justin

Wow this is a serious occasion that I think Apple should honestly take notice of. Do you know how hard it is to p-off this many apple fans on a Mac-fan website? Posters that have never posted before are even chiming in.

I see no legal ground for any of the lawsuit approaches, but on the PR ground this could, and I also think should, stab Apple pretty hard.

Whew!

Can't agree with cowbellallen more. No one made anyone wait out on line for the 'honor' of being an early adopter. We all saw the same analyst info following the initial introduction of the iPhone, and hoped for it as well, but some of us couldn't have a little patience and had to have the iPhone first. Not because there was an absolute necessity, but because there was a desire to be the FIRST to have the shiny new object. You went out and bought a PREMIUM electronic device. Is the iPhone of any less value to you now that the price has dropped?

Doesn't feel good to feel burnt, but ranting in threads and talking out loud about looking for lawyers doesn't change the fact that each and every person who ran out the be among the first to own an iPhone did so under their own power and was not deceived by some evil corporate entity.

They did a refund and resell. I never paid tax in the first place, but in WA I had to. I guess its the easiest way for them to do it. I really don't care, I am happy that they even did anything.

Also the warranty date is started new.

I'm sorry if I am repeating something that has been said before here, but it is getting hard to read through all the posts and spam.

Has anyone who has bought the iPhone on the 29th of June received a refund or credit from AT&T?

I am just wondering because I purchased a 4GB iPhone from the AT&T store and was wondering if anybody had any success getting anything credited or refunded. :p

Thanks :D

Well that's life ain't it...**** happens! Stock prices go up and down everyday and nobody has any control over it. I don't understand if you people will eventually pay around 2190$ /year with AT&T and a recent price cut which results in a 10% overall drop in ownership cost has all of a sudden started to prick you? Or you guys are just jealous that you wanted to be first in line and enjoy the post-sales discount too? (which you sadly missed only due to poor judgment). Well suck it up! However; I do sympathize with your cause and I hope you find inner peace with whatever the outcome may be. ;)

isn't this normal?

I purchased the Nokia n80 for £150 the first week it came out in the UK... Within a few weeks you could get the handset for free on most networks, with better service plans too.

What hurt me most wasn't the price drop; to me that's pretty normal for a new sought after mobile. I don't have evidence, but I'm sure most high-end mobiles follow a similar price path.

No, what hurt me most is the misery of realising how bad the n80 is. It's by far the worst mobile I've ever owned. There is nothing smart about it, the battery is the worst I've ever seen, and its keypad pulls out the hairs on my beard. The only thing keeping me from crushing the thing is that the iPhone isn't out in the UK yet.

For those who paid over the odds...

Isn't this pretty normal for a mobile?

And either way, aren't you glad it's an iPhone and not, god forbid, a Nokia that burnt a miserable black hole in your pocket?

I'm trying to start a new catch phrase to reflect Apple's business practices.

Folks, a lot of us have received a CUPERTINO STEAMER.

The more I think about this, the more disrespect I have for Apple.

They built media frenzy on the backs of "fanboys" over this thing.

They happily let these early adopters - many long term Apple users - evangelize the product and spread the "gospel".

And they knew full well they would turn around two months later and slash the prices.

Apple knowingly let their biggest fans pay a ridiculous premium on this product. Apple has knowingly dumped all over the very people who helped spread the word on this thing.

And, now, Apple has failed to respond to the criticism and, as of now, has not made things right. They haven't made any public comments on the issue, and it appears they just don't care about the people who have shown loyalty to the brand.

"Remember the iPhone." Keep that in mind the next time Apple launches a new product.

i called citibank, which is who i used to buy my 2 phones (diamond card) and they are sending me a form to get the difference back.

Yeah me thinks they Apple store guy hit the wrong button or the point of sale system is doing the wrong thing.

I'll just wait until AT&T has a free iPhone to signup, then switch from Verizon, where I paid $300 for a Razor that's free to their new customers now. Stop whining, that's technology.

Why are people only happy with what they've got as long as they know that nobody else has it better?

If it was worth $600 before, it's worth $600 now.

Got my credit!

I was sitting on top of a parking garage waiting for my wife to get her haircut overwith. I pulled up Safari. I loaded MacRumrors. Saw what I saw. Tapped maps..."Apple Store Edina"...the address and number came up. Dialed. "No problem, if you have your receipt and it is within 14 days we can credit your credit card." I left the Apple Store 30 minutes later with a $213 credit on my card.:D

This thing is still worth every penny I originally pluncked down for it. People should get over themselves.

I sell produce for a living. If I put the red peppers out at $5.99/lb. I sell some, not as many as I would like but...

If I put them out at $3.99/lb. I sell a heck of a lot more, but I still sold some peppers at $5.99/lb.

For someone who wants the peppers, $5.99/lb is not too much to pay. For someone who doesn't need the peppers, they don't buy them.

Did you need or want your iPhone?

If you wanted it then you got what you paid for. If you didn't need it you went without.

Seems pretty straight-forward to me. But I do like the extra 2 bills in my pocket!;)

Oddly, a PR nightmare for Apple. Very unlike Apple. They have this whole Art of War PR thing pretty much down. Very surprising.

Oh my God!!! Enough people! EVERY single manufacturer out there does this. I bought my Xbox 360 a year and a half ago and now they added HDMI and lowered the price... Should I be getting a rebate?!

Bro you're so off base here and totally missing the point. Everyone realizes that products evolve and prices drop. That's not the argument. You have your xbox for a year and a half, more than expected for a drop in price.

I bought my Macbook Pro in September 2006 shortly before they introduced the Core 2 Duo chips and 802.11n networking built-in... should I get a free upgrade?!
And when did Apple actually release the version of the Macbook Pro you own? Much longer than 2 months. We're not talking about buying time here, we're talking about manufacturing & introduction time.

People bought computers in July 2007 and then iLife '08 came out in August... should they get free upgrades?!
Again, no. Did iLife 07 come out within a couple months of iLife 08? No.

No. Suck it up! All companies take advantage of the hype, price things accordingly, and then gradually improve the product from there.
Nice, you just contradicted yourself and completely negated all of your comments. Gradually is not what I'd call 2 months from product introduction.

IF THE PRODUCT MEETS YOUR NEEDS WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT THEN YOU PAID THE RIGHT PRICE AND GOT WHAT YOU PAID FOR! If you're an idiot who bought it just to have one then CONGRATULATIONS! you are a sheep. I hope you enjoy the rest of your bahhhhhhhhhhhhh day!
I don't even own an iPhone. But I feel for the people that do now. 3-4 months from now, that'd have been A-OK. 2 months from market release, absolutely not.

i just called the apple store @ west county in st. louis,mo and they said the two week policy unless something changes.

Figured I'd chime in here with a little reason.

I bought an iPhone on launch day.

I waited 12 hours for it.

I paid $599.

The key word in all of those statements is "I". I made all those decisions knowing full well this could happen. Anyone who complains about this is an idiot. We ALL knew what we were getting into, and for gods sakes, if you could afford $600 for a phone, saving $200 2 months later isn't that big of a deal. Infact, I'd bet that a LARGE percentage of us, if given the opportunity would have paid an extra $200 to receive the phone 2 months before it came out. So don't act like you're so hard done by.

Just called ATT

SO just got off the phone with ATT and I explained to the lady evrything and she just read me what the computer in front of her says. That if purchased between aug 23 and sept 5 in order to get credit back you must take the orginal receipt back to the ATT store you bought it at in order to get that adjusted credit, so it seems like 1 day buys like me have no luck.
