There is no doubt in my mind that someone is going to flame me for this, but I find two distinct errors in this new iPad Pro 9.7" device itself. I know that people are complaining about the price increase, this is the least of my worries. What I find to be incredibly inconvenient is that the brand new device looks like it has a protruding camera lense on the back. This is unacceptable.

I use my iPad on flat surfaces all the time and this will deter me from buying one simply because I don't want a device that wobbles all the time. The second one is the lack of LTE model that wasn't announced during the keynote. For work this is a requirement.

What are your thoughts on this new device?

LTE models are still there.

I'd have to see how big the protrusion is in real life before I comment on it. I could live w/o the improved camera but not a deal killer. $100 price hike is, esp. when I'd want a Pencil which is another $100. That's over $1,000 for a tablet -- one that would be usable to me. Too rich for my blood. I'm sticking w/ my Air 2 unless/until we see some discounts in coming months.

So get a case... You love to to sweat the small stuff
You must be one of those writers of "What she did was SHOCKING" titles that spam my Facebook, you're argument is just as underwhelming as every one of those.

Thank you for your incredibly nice comments and keeping it civil. It's truly appreciated.

You are funny. Not a flame but I could care less about the protruding camera if it is improved. My devices are used in the field and they always have a case on them. It is MORE than acceptable to me!

Thank you for not flaming.

I would take a less quality camera if it meant a flat surface for writing with the pencil on new iPad Pro. I haven't kept my iPads in cases when in use. I do keep it in a sleeve when not in use. Using it at a desk or on a flat surface with a protruding camera could take away from its effectiveness.

How am i suppose to draw on this when it can't even sit flat on the table??? What were they thinking???

Even without the pencil i ALWAYS use the ipad on a flat surface. This is just gonna be super awkward now. Seriously, what were they thinking????

I would never, never take a less desirable camera just to get a non- protruding camera lens. I have both the iPhone 6S Plus and the iPad Pro both of which have a so called protruding lens, and it does not bother me at all.

You say you do not want to be flamed, yet you post a statement like this – incredible.

If you put it in the thinnest case it will lay flat on a table. Sometimes you just got to make adjustments.

You can get a thin case it would add add maybe a 1/16th of an inch. Hardly a deal breaker. I draw on mine all the time with a thin case that prevents the back from getting scratched and it works fine. I will take the protruding camera to get a better one any day.

Agree.

I will never pay retail price for an iPad.

Ever since iPad 4. Sales been slowing down.

iPad 3 was last iPad I paid full retail price for. And it cost me $829 for 64gb LTE model.

Starting with iPad 4 (got $40-60? Can remember target gift card on launch day)

iPad Air (got $100-140? Target gift card 3 weeks after it was released)

iPad Air 2 (same. Got $140 target gift card 3 weeks after its released)

I skipped the iPad pro 12 inch but sent my friends target 10% off 2 weeks after the pro released last November.

Don't pay full retail price for iPad pro or no pro. Wait for sales.

But isn't it the same argument as to why you'd want to get a pro in the first place?
The 9.7 seems to have many more features..
  • Live Photos
  • Autofocus with Focus Pixels
  • True Tone flash
  • Panorama (up to 63 megapixels)
  • Auto HDR for photos
  • Sapphire crystal lens cover
  • Improved local tone mapping
  • Improved noise reduction
  • 4K video
  • Slo-mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps
  • Cinematic video stabilisation
  • 5 megapixel photos
  • Retina Flash
  • More LTE bands

So for £180 (my local) less, you get more in a more compact size.. 9.7 seems a non brainer vs the 12.9.

Again thank you for keeping it civil and nice. I truly appreciate it.

I don't see a protruding lense on the current iPad Pro 12.9" ... It all comes down to usability. I'm going to draw with this thing. I don't draw on my phone. I draw on flat surfaces. With a protruding camera on the device it will wobble. Plain and simple. I don't draw on my iPhone 6s.

I think you may want to test it once the Apple store gets some models in stock to try. I would think even if you use the smart cover or case it might not be too wobbly. I was curious as to why they made the protruding camera as well.

Unless Apple would prefer to keep the 12.9" positioned as the iPad for artists/graphic designers etc and the 9.7" using the pencil just for note taking? etc. Who knows.

There is an LTE model at all levels. ???

As I wrote in another thread, this event was really a non-event. Apple is currently stalled between products and has no real response for the Surface, which is more capable than the "pro" and more expensive.

I am an Apple fan and own almost everything so this is not a flame.

There are LTE on all the models, their site has this information.

I do agree the protruding lens is a little ridiculous as I prefer flat surfaces and case-free, feels better and natural, same with the iPhone 6 after I abandoned the case.

Well, sucks to be you. :p

Personally if outside, would always use a case. Can't think of just not using one dirty/messy desk, table, etc.
No sucks to be you! ;)

I always use my devices without cases and put them on dirty tables etc. You'd be surprised how clean my stuff is. I just take care of them and clean them every now and then..

So you're the type of person who carries a pouch of wipes and cleans a table outside before gently putting your iPad down like a baby!

Those people are hilarious!

All joking aside I find the apple cases to be very good nowadays. The last iPad I owned was the iPad 1, yes the original and the case sucked bad.
