The second one is the lack of LTE model that wasn't announced during the keynote. For work this is a requirement.

The only Pro which doesn't come in an LTE version is the 12.9 inch 32GB version.

Well, sucks to be you. :p

Personally if outside, would always use a case. Can't think of just not using one dirty/messy desk, table, etc.
I used to use cases for my iPads, but I take good care of them and have never needed a case to protect them. Now I usually use a smart cover and a clear skin on the back to protect against dirt and scratches and for additional grip.

What's your solution to the protuding camera?

Apple builds a super thin, super light, high end device and you would rather they put in a crappy camera and lens in it?

So you're the type of person who carries a pouch of wipes and cleans a table outside before gently putting your iPad down like a baby!

Those people are hilarious!

All joking aside I find the apple cases to be very good nowadays. The last iPad I owned was the iPad 1, yes the original and the case sucked bad.

No haha! I clean my devices at home every now and then. :)

My buddy has the iPad 1. The case for it is funny lol

Calling the previous gen camera "crappy" is a bit melodramatic don't you think?

If a person doesn't use the camera on their iPad the protruding camera is an annoyance with no benefits.

No, I'd rather they make it as thick as it needs to be so the camera they want to use is flush with the body of the product. If it means the product is a fraction of a millimeter thicker, then so be it. That extra space can be occupied by more battery to improve battery life, more aluminum to make it stronger, or nothing at all to not compromise on weight. Really, I don't care what they do with the space, but all those options are better than a protruding camera.

I just found another reason not to buy based on hardware changes from the iPad Air and it has to do with the Apple SIM. It looks like they are going to have embedded Apple SIMs only for the new 9.7" iPad Pro. Wow... Again, the protruding camera is one thing, but now you are locked into the only carriers that will allow and have partnered with the Apple SIM program.

Tough crowd....

We should have a bulk catch-all thread for after every Apple presentation for people to complain about little tiny things that are "deal-breakers" instead of having 30 threads pop up to complain about stuff that seems pretty minor to most people.

I can't personally be bothered with an LTE iPad. My phone can handle that and I don't have to pay for an extra plan.

My reasons why I don't by the new iPad Pro 9,7

  • The camera lense... This a joke if you use a smart cover.
  • The price
  • No Force Touch

I wasn't thinking about the Smart Cover but you have a point. I can imagine after a while the camera lens would put a dent in the Smart Cover when you use it with the cover folded back

You're complaining about the lack of an unannounced model? What does that even mean?
[doublepost=1458592462][/doublepost]
Then use it without a case. You'll also be fine.

First off, the product was announced on the keynote today and there was no mention of an LTE model on the keynote. Secondly, it is shown on Apple's website as an option now. Good! The problem is an embedded SIM card which limits one from being able to put one in themselves.

The camera is on the corner that is not against the smart cover when it is propped up.
[doublepost=1458600981][/doublepost]Anyway, OP should change the thread title to "reasons I'm not buying" versus telling the rest of us that his reason should lead to a total boycott.

I would never, never take a less desirable camera just to get a non- protruding camera lens. I have both the iPhone 6S Plus and the iPad Pro both of which have a so called protruding lens, and it does not bother me at all.

You say you do not want to be flamed, yet you post a statement like this – incredible.
I personally would because my smartphone has a better camera anyway so I never use my tablet for photography.

Seems you did not find another reason after all. The round up story on the main MacRumors site says the 9.7 has the embedded SIM card but also a Nano SIM tray.

When I lay my iPad flat on a surface it's with the smart cover folded back behind it; in that case, the camera lens will be pushing into the cover.

Whether that's a real issue or not ultimately is irrelevant, because in the end it's a bizarre and unnecessary choice that no one really supports, even if some people will defend it.

My iPad goes in a case - no problem for me whatsoever. I still use an iPad 3, and it's definitely time to upgrade; I was going to buy an Air 2, but since the smaller Pro is out I'll pick up one of those instead.

On the phone it's a different story since I often just use the clear plastic, not a case... that camera bump on the iPhone irks me, but apparently it's here to stay for a while.

Good time to buy the 12,9" version
- Larger battery
- Larger Screen to write on
- No bulky camera

The RGB True Tone adaptive backlight is just a test for the new MacBooks.
Apple wants to gather some feedback.

you forgot to add "you can pretty much buy a 32GB 12.9 used in good condition for the same price as the 32GB pro 9.7 new"

I'm not sure I've seen a relatively new product from apple with such heavy price drops for used.

Totally agreed. I have the 12,9" version including the Pencil.
If you take the 9,7", add Apple Care, a case and the Pencil, things really get scary.

I love my iPad Pro but Apple should have improved iOS before introducing yet another Pencil-enabled device.
The software is way too limited to be usefull.

Oh, I forgot
- The keyboard is small, both onscreen and external.

I don't get it ...
[doublepost=1458651513][/doublepost]
larger heavier device with less features and more expense to carry around....

If you choose to buy the 9,7 or the 12,9 I would go for the 12,9.
That's all I'm saying.

Apple should have made a iPad Air 3.
There's no real reason to have a smaller pro.
Use one, and you will see.

You cannot write a sentence on the 9,7".
You handwriting doesn't scale down ;)

But i can scale down my hand writing :)

I agree with the pro name comment, but my take is none of the devices should have the tag. There's nothing pro about any of the features in reality when it comes to an iPad. I recall previous discussions stating the reason for "pro" was the performance - so by that logic, both are the same. I'd still wager the smaller device will actually be snappier with less pixels to drive.

You can't use logic to describe people purchasing decisions, its more about emotions that reality.
People simply validate their own logic with the bits that fit them and dismiss everything else as unimportant..

Buy what you want, ignore the forums.

As I wrote in another thread, this event was really a non-event. Apple is currently stalled between products and has no real response for the Surface, which is more capable than the "pro" and more expensive.

I am an Apple fan and own almost everything so this is not a flame.
I'm not sure why everyone is insistent that Apple "needs" to respond to the Surface in any way. Of course, I deal with technology, consumers, and corporate users all day every day. I've never met anyone even remotely excited about buying their next computing tool in the way this forum makes it seem like regular people honestly have some type of emotional relationship with their device.

In fact, almost everyone I deal with uses 4+ year old personal laptops at home, precisely because they do not want to move on from Windows 7.

Does Apple need to respond?

Of course they do!

Marketing a need is what this is all about. I grew up without computers, big blue sold typewriters, people mailed through the Post Office and not everyone had color tv.

This is about continuing the revenue stream and being on top for Apple, it is both a competition and a business. Eventually Apple will fade away into the memories and cultural icons of the past if they stop and just suck up the revenue stream and don't build bigger (smaller) things we don't even know we "need" today.

Bring it on, or maybe those old Apple IIs were all we really needed.

And what were those same people using 4 and a half years ago?
