A 3.5 inch screen, which is what on the iPhone, is nothing to sneer at, it's actually pretty large. However, it seems that most competing phones nowadays use a screen size of 3.7" (Nexus One, HTC Incredible), 4.1" (the new Dells), or 4.3" (HTC Evo). Especially after using an iPad, I feel like it wouldn't hurt to increase the screen size by a half an inch or so. Do you guys agree, or do you think 3.5" is already perfect and anything larger would just be a waste of space and a portability sacrifice?

I'm okay with screen size as long as they bump up the pixel resolution. I'll be more than happy with the rumored 960x640. If they keep it at HVGA like the current iPhone, it's a disappointment.

I couldn't see any difference in the pictures. I doubt is was more than a #@!$ hair.

Well I think it's good because won't it be a smaller device overall? And the resolution bump will change your mind I bet.

Yes! I also think that is possible, however unlikely that apple will get rid of all the wasted space (black bars) on the top and bottom of new screen. I hope they do this to match the new modern design and keep ip with the onslaught of Android phones

I can hope can't I? ;(

I'm much more concerned about the resolution...which seems like they took care of that problem for me. Size is fine...I could handle 4.1 or 4.3...but it's not necessary.

Size is fine, though I would have preferred some extra, reserved, pixels at top or bottom for non-intrusive notifications.

I still think that it is possible the next Iphone will have a larger screen. I think the prototype was the same size as the current Iphone to help hide it from attention.

All of you who say that you don't want a bigger screen are disagreeing just to disagree.....

If the next iPhone did have a bigger screen you all would be the first praising Apple for it....

And a bigger screen doesn't mean a bigger phone. Look at the nexus one, it's smaller than an iPhone.

Most definitely.

I was hoping to see at least 3.8, preferably 4.3 inch screen size. I'm now exploring HTC Supersonic seriously because of this.

+1000000.
Best post in this thread so far.

Definitely disappointed

Hoping the final product is between 4.0 and 4.3

And thinner and lighter

When others say they don't want a brick, I think it's really the weight factor

The current iPhone in my pocket feels heavy

My main complaint with the iPhone is small screen size and connection speed

Having to monkey to enlarge the screen content and still squint sucks

iPad has answered my request for a 10" screen

But due to work I am still required to have a phone in my pocket

Heres hoping for a larger screen!

I was hoping for a slightly larger screen, of like 3.7/3.8". I think the big 4.3" screen on some of the upcoming phones like the HTC Evo makes the phone too big to fit in pocket, and awkward to hold up to your face.

It defiantly needs to be a higher resolution screen and I would love to see a 4" screen, however I do think 3.5" will be the best compromise on form factor and size.
