Spirit Jailbreak released tomorrow (Friday)

I'm just asking, but how did you know and what clues were there? I follow all these guys on Twitter and while it does seem like someone was going to release something when the 3G iPads shipped, I have certainly not seen anything other than this one Tweet to suggest that it would be Friday. I've also seen an exchange with another dev since that suggested this date was optimistic.

Having said that, you may well know something I don't (which is why I ask). Either way, something does appear to be imminent.
 
Too bad this jailbreak won't have any effect on me just waiting for the unlock that is coming on June 22.

Hmm, that only has 8.X versions.

Is downgrading even going to be possible on OSX?

First time I've seen it mentioned that the itunes version can be a problem. Does anyone actually know for sure what version will be required?

I can migrate my iTunes usage to a Windows box but won't be thrilled to do so. Ah well.

I feel like I have seen instructions for reverting to other versions.

I don't think its 100% certain you need <9.1.1 but I sounds like it could be a strong possibility.

Although I have read some reports saying that MuscleNerd said that 9.1.1 could remove the jb, I am not sure thats what he really said. He did say:

"nope...it's the same advice used throughout the 1.x jailbreaks too, for the same reason (iTunes can easily "fix" the rogue device)"

We will find out though. I would be willing to re-install OSX to get this to work. This is the only thing holding me back from getting an iPad, so I can tether over WIFI to my iphone 3gs.
 
i hope it does, but im not convinced, we shall see tomorrow. I hope it does whilst a teathered jailbreak is better than no jailbreak, id prefer an unteathered one. im not bothered about unlocking, mine has been officially unlocked by o2 :D
 
Well, once I stopped having a mild panic attack (a friend of mine has gotten me in the bad habit of keeping everything on my MBP updated--I need to rebreak that habit), I realize it's probably not the end of the world if I need to grab an older version of iTunes, install on Windows and just use it for the JB (may not be that straightforward but I'm sure there is some possible path). Oldapps.com did have Windows versions in the 9.X range.

Thanks for the add'l info though--we'll see what happens.
 
Now I've got a dilemma... I was going to Pwnage my 3GS (old bootrom) to 3.1.3 (which will keep my untethered JB on the old Bootrom right?) but now that Spirit is being released tomorrow I'm not sure which way to go - is it worth staying on old Bootrom as a precaution?

For those of us who didn't know we needed to back up files(SHSH) to a random Hong Kong web site called Cydia, and/or for whatever reason are on 3.1.3, we anxiously await this Spirit jailbreak. :D

How have you determined June 22nd ?

Since Apple has moved the WWDC up to June 7-11th, we will likely see 4.0 firmware released to the public shortly after, but what day is still speculation.

It is likely both Geohot and DevTeam have an unlock solution, so hopefully in June...

So where does June 22nd come from ?

Bootrom is fixed in the phone.

Do you mean baseband ?

Downgrading is simple for Mac.
I have downgraded iTunes at least twice.
Save all your music, apps, ringtones, movies etc from iTunes to a folder
Trash iTunes
Go into your libraries, user folders and trash everything iTunes
Install iTunes 9.03
Import all your music, movies, stc back into iTunes
Done

And iTunes 9.03 is available for download on Internet, you just have to search a little harder. I just got it like a week or so ago and downgraded from 9.1 to 9.03.

Search for "iTunes9.0.3.dmg"
