A little strange they call it the PowerPC G5 (nobody uses this term), instead of the PPC970. They have made the connection for us.

...ghm

Actually... The article refers to the anonymous interview given by someone, who is thought to be working for Apple (then there goes stuff about anonymity as a result of corporative politics etc.), to the Macrumors in the end of November. There the guy mentioned that after the work on G5 was halted by Moto (difficulties with 0,13), Apple had no other way to go... but with IBM. And new generation of Macs will be based on Power 970 (which they call "the modernised version of Power4 :)) ...And 3rd quarter of 2003 is the release date.

The new model expected is xStation - ultrapowerful etc., but of course no details. Until that we can expect only minor revisions of the G4.

It is clear that all the news was taken from Macrumors and has nothing to do with ANY official information. This part of the page is entitled "Articles", and gives information from various sources, just advertizing... and entertaining.

so what, now MR posts the news and apple posts the rumors ? :D

This is really quite funny. Apple reports the rumor reported in MacRumors reporting on a rumor from Apple which gets re-reported on MacRumors as an Apple rumor!

Did I miss anything?

Not official

this site is oviously not official, a good fake though. at best it is the page of the official distributor in Ukraine. If you look at the bottom you see links to other company's pages wiuth which they have done the same, e.g. xerox. You will also see that the design albeit similar is not identical, there e.g. more 3d feel on the real pages. Also it might be a give away that the pages uses shtml, not apple webobjects. The company who runs it is called wega, and seems to be a distributor.

sorry folks :(

regards.

nice one guv'

Anyone notice that there is no Apple Store for the Ukraine site - seems odd.

I think everyone is getting excited about nothing new here. If the guys running the Ukrainian site are using rumors for all this speculation, then they're no better off than anyone else.

I think I'll be taking a wait and see position here.

Legal

if apple takes such extreme legal steps to quash rumors, why on earth would they post it to an apple worldwide site, if they really wanted to answer rumors about the PPC970 or now "G5" they would've released some sort of information by now to the US, however; apple doesn't play that way, and they like to keep their buisness private. apple has never had interest in answering rumors, and they would've never posted information like that.. one day we will hear "officially" about the PPC970, even though that itself is still a rumor...

I would agree that Motorola is completly zakryla'ed. And Apple's not ostavalos nothing either.

Got to look in that pantry.

TRANSLATION

Although it is an official Apple site, the article is just an overview of what's happening around Apple. It is written by Wega distribution (look at the bottom). International Apple sites frequently allow distributors to place their articles and whatnot. I know Russian and THERE IS NOTHING pointing out that the info is official. The guy is just doing an overview of current rumors. So, rest easy.

Arn, I would appreciate if you would clarify this. This is NOT official info.

BUT, from the apple.com.au site there is a link in the pull down menu for the Ukraine site. Does this tell us anything?

Not that I'm implying it's offical info, just an official site that might be clueless.

Here's another translation (summary)

I had a Ukrainian friend of mine summarize the article. Here is how he translated and summarized it:

In general, this article describing that Apple, like any other IT company should constantly use more and more powerful CPUs, bigger memory and Hard drives, more powerful Video cards.
As result - new versions of the end-user computer iMac G4 LCD and professional workstation PowerMac G4.

After that they are describing the technical parameters of these computers...

After that they are describing that in November, on the https://www.macrumors.com web site some anonymous interview was placed. interview is about the new generation of CPUs for Apple: PowerPC G5
Interview describing that working prototype of PowerMac G5 is already exists more than one year. But, Motorola (PowerPC chip maker) has some problems and cannot start mass manufacturing of G4 chips. After that, Motorola closed G4 direction at all. So, Apple started to search for another manufacturer for new CPU. And they found IBM - IBM has 64-bit CPU IBM PowerPC 970 (this is improved model of Power 4). So, next generation of Macs will be build on this CPU.

New computers should be started to produce in the 3rd quarter of current (2003) year.

Cheers! :D

Ok, I have not checked this out. However, take the example of the UK Apple site. The addreess is:

http://www.apple.com/uk/

So, we can suggest that the ukrane site is something similar to the uk but with its local suffix after the / . Therefore, I say this is a fake.
