10.5 at same size and weight looks amazing.

Or course, if they can get the 12.9 lighter and bezel free that may be a winner too. I'd love the bigger screen, but don't want the loss of the mobility of the 9.7.

And of course, let's hope Apple gets what is really holding back the iPad is the lacking iOS and first party apps.

We know that Apple isn't going to make this thing thicker, so if it's the size of a 9.7" iPad which a larger display and way more pixels, what does this suggest for battery life?
Using a 10nm soc and a more energy efficient screen could help, dropping the headphone jack, could make more room.

And why wouldn' t they make it any thicker?

The iphone 7 and 6s were thicker than the iphone 6. Ipad 3 was thicker than ipad 2, ipad mini 2 was thicker than the ipad mini 1. Apple watch series 2 is thicker than the original apple watch.

Now might be the time to snap up a refurbished iPad Pro if it is sufficient for your needs. I expect there will be limited supply once the new model/s come out; maybe one of the memory sizes will be discontinued.

Especially if you are in the U.K. I'm expecting a £100-£150 price rise with the new model/s due to the low value of the pound.

I have an Ipad Pro and I basically use it for 90% of computing needs during the day: browsing, email, reading news, PDF reading and annotating, media consumption, etc. Also I use the Office apps for work. They are really good unless you need to do heavy work with them, then you need the desktop version. iPhone + iPad is all I need and sincerely even if I have an (old) MacBook, I don't really use it that much, unless I need to do some complex spreadsheet or document.... I mean, iPads are really portable, and much more immediate. I don't need to carry around something heavier, wait for it to start up, and so on.

You can browse the internet on your phone and email and some other stuff, but on a bigger screen it is all much better. Of course it depends what your needs are....

True maybe because I have a laptop and an iPhone

Apple is rumored to be working on a new iPad Pro that adopts an edge-to-edge display, and while it's said to be somewhere around 10 inches, there are a lot of mixed rumors about the specific size of the tablet.

Studio Neat designer Dan Provost yesterday wrote a post on Medium (via Daring Fireball) making the case for a 10.5-inch iPad. His math is solid and his argument makes sense, framing all of the iPad Pro rumors in a new light.

When introducing the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in 2015, Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller explained that Apple settled on that size because the width of the tablet matched the height of the existing 9.7-inch iPad. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro, he said, was similar to having two 9.7-inch iPads side-by-side.

Provost takes this concept and applies it to the iPad mini. The width of a 10.5-inch iPad would match the height of the iPad mini screen, and furthermore, a 10.5-inch iPad would use the same resolution as the 12.9-inch model, with the same pixel density as the iPad mini.
Existing rumors all agree that the upcoming iPad Pro will be in the neighborhood of 10 inches, but we've heard everything from 10.1 inches to 10.9 inches, suggesting Apple could be testing multiple prototypes.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo originally suggested the tablet would be 10.5 inches, but recently revised his statement to say that it could be anywhere from 10 inches to 10.5 inches.

Japanese site Mac Otakara has released two separate reports, one mentioning a 10.1-inch tablet and the other suggesting the display will measure in at 10.9 inches, while rumors from the Taiwanese supply chain suggest a 10.5-inch display.

While we can't yet say for certain the iPad Pro will feature a 10.5-inch display, it's the size that makes the most sense and fits well into Apple's lineup.

The upcoming iPad Pro is said to be a new flagship model that will be sold alongside the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It's said to feature an edge-to-edge display with no Home button and a small top bezel.

[doublepost=1488290383][/doublepost]Looking good, but also needs to move towards what the Surface Pro achieves, i.e. a tablet that can act as a (proper) computer when you attach a keyboard and pen. Maybe that needs OS X installed rather than iOS. Would be very neat.

Yes, but will never happen.
No way apple will let a cheaper ipad pro with less margins in the market in favor of a mac.
I can see apple developing a more sophisticated ios for ipad though. Not up to macos standards, but with more functions as a blown up iphone ios.
Simple filemanager, multi account login, better multitasking /multiwindow ability, some kind of trackpad (support) with a new smart keyboard with trackpad , perhaps even a more expensive smart keyboard with touchbar.
But no MacOs on an ipad pro, perhaps when and if apple makes a switch to ARM on the macs in the long run.
[doublepost=1488303109][/doublepost]There is also the possibilty that apple will release a 13.7 to 14 inch ipad pro in the same size as the 12.9 inch ipad pro.
Next year, ofcourse....

It would be more relaistic to expect reduced bezels on the 12.9". A larger screen could happen and if this was the plan then the iPad Pro 100.5" could have the 2224x1668 resolution, meaning the larger iPad Pro could also change its screen size while keeping the 264ppi. Right now, I don't see this as a likely scenario.
