I bought the 5th gen iPod hoping to get a decent always-with-me camera. Not the case. It's the worst camera I've ever owned. It's difficult to hold, has extremely long shutter lag, is very noisy in low light, lens doesn't zoom, and doesn't support memory cards.

I don't know what iPod Touch you were using before dude but non ever supported memory cards so your case on this is irrelevant.

I said it was the worst camera I've ever owned. All the others supported memory cards, so it is relevant.

Wow are you kidding me? Where exactly do you stick in a memory card in an iPod touch?

I'm flattered. ;)

Except the strap, camera, and black front on a redesigned silver chassis, it looks pretty similar...

I think it looks cool but the lack of a back camera in this day and age makes it outdated even comparing the iPod touch 4 and that also at 16 gb has a back cam. If this is there idea of a unibody iPod touch with Retina that the only thing that makes it worth 200+ it's not worth it at all.

You don't and that is my point. You are misreading my posts. One of the several characteristics of the iPod Touch I've found that make it the worst camera I've ever owned is that it doesn't support memory cards.

FWIW, I like my iPod Touch for just about everything other than it's camera. I would have certainly bought the new 16GB model had it been available and had I know how awful the iPod Touch camera was.

Wake me up when iPhone redesigned into this model. For some reason I'm pretty sure next year's iPhone going to have this design.

I really love it much more than current iPhone flat design, if only it has cellular .. hmm ;)

A great article from Forbes on the iPod Touch. It's sold 18 million Touches in less than a year.

I'd like Apple to make an iPod touch that is essentially a mini iPad mini. That is, an iPad that has LTE and GPS along with the camera. It would replace my GPS unit and kill the need for a smart phone. That way I only pay for data service when I want it (e.g. when I'm on vacation) and it is small enough to take along on hiking trips. I'd settle for no LTE but would really like GPS.
GPS is very power hungry and it takes a long time to get a lock without any cellular connection. That means a bigger battery. Besides, most popular GPS receivers are actually integrated into the cellular chipsets. If you add cellular, it takes up sizable chunk of space on the mother board, puts more load on the battery and increases costs even further. You might as well buy an unlocked smartphone and use it on a prepaid plan, so that you still only use it during vacations.

back in the day...

Wake me when they have a 128 GBytes iPod Touch...

Those that wait for technology to improve miss the advantage technology provides today. - Arthur C. Clarke

The first hard drive I sold was a Digital Equipment (DEC) 25Mb that was 3ft high with a diameter of about 2ft weighed about 70 pounds and cost $45,000 (1979)

ipod touch 5 > iphone 5

I just got the new ipod touch and I'm a little besotted by it. I agree though, I think when the iphone is as sleek as the touch... then I'll cave and get one. I've held out so far (pretty much the only apple product I have held out on!) but that might do it for me!
