If the electronics use less power and the battery remains the same you will get better life out of it. Simply saying OMG THE BATTERY IS ONLY SLIGHTLY BIGGER!!! Means nearly nothing. Yes the screen is getting bigger but the type of screen they are using requires significantly less power. The processors have also adapted to use less power.

Look at what it did for the ipad 2 when they switched over to the new processors.

I agree with you. But did you factor adding a bigger screen and LTE to the mix? Also, the battery isn't great to begin with. IMO, the battery had the most potential for improvement.

Edit: read your comment wrong. I hope you're right

I hope they use Plastic instead of Glass on the top and bottom. I dont want to buy a phone case this time around if I don't have to.

You didn't have to buy one last time around either. I've never used a case on any of my iPhones, have dropped them all numerous times, and have never broken the front or back glass.

This looks more like an evolution (4GS) than a revolution (5).
It's most certainly a matter of evolution which is good news. I've given up on the idea that Apple would deliver a fresh innovative new style in a contemporary size. Apple is forever married to the "small phone" form factor, those with slightly smaller hands will be thrilled.

There's a lot to be said for playing it safe. With ever increasing demand Apple is in the enviable position to milk the current form factor for a long time. One quick read of the iPhone forum here reveals immediate acceptance from many of those who are satisfied with one hand operation & will accept nothing less.

Once again, it's just one more reason for Apple to take this opportunity to maximize profits. You certainly can't blame them for taking a profit centric approach. It makes me verry happy to watch my APPL stock soar after all these years. It's great to be a long term Apple shareholder.

Change for the sake of change is stupid. This looks like an excellent improvement over the current design.

If you've ever used the new AIM app for iOS, you'll really know about this. When it's not broken, don't fix it.

And what qualifies as "revolutionary" to you? This is in NO way a small upgrade.
This is a catchup upgrade. Many people expect Apple to leapfrog competitors. That's what Apple used to do. Apparently not anymore. This seems like a decent upgrade but it's not "holy-crap-apple-destroyed-the-competition" kinda upgrade..

please tell that to the thousands of people who did break the glass.

The website won't let me read it because I'm using Internet Explorer? Lame.

(And before you say it, I can't change. I'm at work, and IE 8 on XP is mandated by IT. Guess I'll have to wait until I get home.)

nope still not a believer..

they'll surprise us with a clean sharp tear drop design, watch!

Completely agree. Tear drop or not, I don't think what we are seeing is it.

*Edit* - A thread(s) with a poll of "I bitched about the new iPhone but still got one" and "I was wrong about thinking the leak was right...opps" should be made. :p

I'm confused:

- Bigger screen
- UNIBODY DESIGN
- Metal backing
- New dock connector
- New headphone placement
- New speaker system
- LTE
- Possibly NFC
- Faster processor

The 3GS and 4S both kept the same design. This is a new design along with the typical upgrades we got with the 3GS and 4S internally....

EDIT: This is just what we can tell... we don't know any of the other secrets it has.

It also has:
- In-cell technology

Possibly:
- IGZO display

I think the iPhone looks better with a bumper case on it. This is what I have (not my picture). It looks kinda dull in the picture, but the edge of it is normally shiny.

I'm really hoping all these consistent iPhone rumors are fakes deliberately set up by Apple. This phone looks AWFUL!!!!

Here's hoping that Tim surprises up with a completely NEW, never before seen iPhone!!!

If not, then Apple is going down the toilet.

Then you are very lucky as mine dropped and smahed the back glass twice

Andy Garcia would never allow this!

In a parallel world, I'd love for Apple to go in for a satin/faux rubber smooth finish for their phones. This of course is assuming that metallic finishes/glass finish is not their design / material philosophy/motif for this decade. Also, I'd love for it to coexist with swankier (apple "swankier") tall cousins.

Rubberized smooth muted matte finish as in the Palm Pre 2 would alleviate any signal reception problems, and/or obviate the need for any external cases (undesirable for apple, and external manufacturers, maybe!) ? I would like to be educated.

You've been lucky then!

I have used a case on my iPhone 4 since day one and it is crack free, but "All" of my friends on the other hand have cracked their phones by not using cases. Most of them cracked just by putting their phone down on a table and some by bumping into a hard surface while in their pockets.

And how eco friendly is your rubberized design?
