Eye Candy

As someone else said, Leopard will run, but it probably won't have all the eye candy on older machines. And Apple still hasn't released a 'minimum requirements' list. So, for example, my early G4 (PCI ATI Rage 128 graphics,) will likely *NOT* support all of the eye candy, just as my 2 year old PC notebook doesn't support all of Vista's eye candy.

I think I'm correct in saying that all the new eye candy is achieved with Core Image.
In that case then my 1 ghz 12" PB will support the eye candy and my 800 mhz iMac wont.

a quick test, the ripples when dropping in a new widget are achieved using Core Image.

I hope I'm partially correct, Apple do have a habit of supporting older machines in my experience.

EDIT

Just read its Core Animation and not Core Image. All the same to me but probably wont be supported on my PB after all.

It has been said before, but it is amazing how much iTunes influences OS X as a whole. If you want to see the future, just look at the next iTunes. The new Finder is exactly like iTunes 7 in every way. They even added Coverflow to it. Just glad they finally are going to have a consistent UI.

I agree with UI, It has to be consistent.

When using iTunes i find some playlists easier to view using the list view and others easier to view using Coverflow.

Some of my current folders in Finder will definitely be viewed in Coverflow and others will be listed or the regular icons with in a window format.

Really looking forward to the new Finder and the added Dock icons are a blessing as I'm currently using folders in the Dock.

Now hurry up and release 10.5 because i need a new Mac and I'm holding back! Apple are you listening?

the point is the same as a transparent dock

and are we all forgetting that we have 64 bit processing 'top to bottom' with core animation?...isn't that enough by itself?

also, i loved that photo with a billion megapixels.....absolutely awesome detail

Well, I for one am really looking forward to Leopard. Time Machine, Spaces, Stacks, Quick Look, all things that I will use. Still not sure about the transparent menu bar, but I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Overall, very impressed and can't wait to get my hands on it.

I think it's enough but there is always some disappointment after a Apple event. It's hard not to get carried away with all the rumors.

Once the dust has settled and 10.5 is released then people will see the bigger picture and wonder how they ever 'got by' with Tiger.

I think it's all good.

No it will:

"Core Animation takes advantage of the multiple cores in most new Intel-based Mac computers. When developers use the framework for an application, the process runs in its own thread. On a multicore Mac, that means the application runs on one core, and Core Animation runs on the other. Core Animation runs on any Core Image-capable Mac (including most Mac systems shipped in the past two years)."

Any computer that runs Core IMage is good for Core Animation. Of course its optimized with a multi-threaded CPU. But it sitl works. All the technology seems to stem from Core Image, OpenGL, and Core Video. All compatible with your PB.

Now you can save your audio and video chats for posterity with iChat recording.

Before recording starts, iChat notifies your buddies and asks for their permission to record. When you’re done chatting, iChat stores your audio chats as AAC files and video chats as MPEG-4 files so you can play them in iTunes or QuickTime. Share them with colleagues, friends, and family or sync them to your iPod and play on the go.

Dope iChat feature.

I didn't hear/see/read anything about the resolution independent UI. anyone else?
SJ didn't mention it during the keynote but it was referenced in the teaser emails Appls sent out before WWDC.

So you can count on resolution independence being in Leopard.

F***!! Am I the first one to notice the "transparent" menu bar has lost it's round corners? :( i really dislike the transparent effect too; what's the point if you can't put windows behind the bar?

I don't think it has lost its round corners. And an earlier poster said menu bar transparency can be turned on or off.

That's feature number 56. Steve only got to the top 10 yesterday. ;)

Apple has already told developers that the UI is resolution independent. They are getting their wares ready for it. There was no reason for Steve to mention it again in keynote, which was for developers.

I'm just assuming here....

Can't that be the Theaterstuff?

"Apple states that all these technologies are universal, meaning both Intel Mac users and PowerPC users will benefit from the enhancements."

So this means that i'm gonna be able to run Leopard smoothly on my PB G4 1.5ghz???

doe anybody has the minimum systems requirements for leopard???

it'll run fine, don't listen to the other ppl

I agree...all previous releases have actually improved speed each time for my old 933 mhz Quicksilver. So it should run perfectly well.

The pretty stuff, on the other hand, will be extra...with the tiger and dashboard release..only a few newer Macs could do the coreimaging water droplets. I assume this will be the case with some of the eye candy in Leopard.

But probably if you can do the droplet, you will be great on leopard! Either way, leopard will run easily. (all based on assumption and speculation)

If Leopard brings uniform GUI, better use of multiple cores, and doesn't lock up my MacPro when I'm doing a lot of disk access I'll be VERY pleased.

Welcome to Leopard!

Our first feature is a new Desktop! *

* design outsourced to Microsoft.

Resolution independence?

I never heard Steve mention anything about resolution independence. Is this still a feature of leopard, or has it been scrapped?
