We will not get MMS or Copy/Paste because we don't need them. Even if we think we do, you have to remember that Steve knows best.

It is pointless to speculate on what you want the new iphone to have, because you really won't know what you want until Steve tells you.

The most important thing that needs updating is a cosmetic change. It is vital that anyone with a first or second generation iphone be able to be identified at a distance as not having enough money to buy the new one. Otherwise why would anyone want to buy the new one.

Its like the old Henry Ford quote.. if he had asked his customers what they wanted, they would have asked for a faster horse. Have faith, and apple will provide.

That said, it is drastically important that the new iphone be on sale by June 29th, 2009 or people will re-sign their contracts with whatever the new shiny is, like the mentally handicapped little raccoons we all are.

I use copy & paste several times a day on my smartphone. If you really use it for work, to-dos and calender then you will get into situations where it really gets handy to be able to copy and paste. If you could edit word documents (as someone above already mentioned) that would be a big plus. Sometimes you just don't have a compter around you, but you still want to change something on a doc and send it back to someone.

Sure, if you only use your iPhone for games and music then this might not be for you. But they said they wanted to make the best (smart) phone outthere..then they should really consider adding some functions every other smart (or normal) phone already has.

And no, Steve doesn't know best. He (as if there was a "he" in "team") has forgot lots of stuff to implement. Apple is not a religion nor a sect.

oh snap let em know!!! be careful what you say around these parts, or "those we do not speak of" will come out to try and burn you at the stake...

I do think we will get cut and paste officially on the iPhone because it may be necessary for specialized apps that make the iPhone a very serious business market phone so it can compete against the Blackberry and Palm Treo smartphones out there. This epecially given the Palm Pre that will be coming later this year, which does have cut and paste functionality.

Successor of the iPhone 3G

Here are some features I think will come out in the next gen iPhone.
1) Memory upgrade - 16GB , 32GB or 32GB, 64GB.
2) Faster processor.
3) Better camera with video recording.
4) Bluetooth with A2DP and file sending functionality.
5) All new aluminium outer shell with 2 different colours (e.g- black for 16GB/32GB and black or white for 32GB/64GB )
6) Flash enabled for Safari.

That's my guess. Memory upgrade and faster processor is 100%. We'll surely see the new iPhone 2,1 during WWDC 2009! I'm gonna sell my ****** Omnia and get the top-of-the-line ( most memory space ) iPhone 2,1 , then i'll use my current 1st gen iPhone 8GB as a second phone!! :p :apple: rocks! Back off Palm, You're gonna go down the drain and get PAWNED! :D

What's your guess guys?

"- Both AT&T and Wi-Fi connections"

Darn, there goes my hope that it's a Verizon CDMA version!

They aren't easy predictions, they're stupid ones. I really hate it when people do this kind of thing. It's like they haven't been paying attention.

It will not be called iPhone Pro. Think about it.

Of course not - wireless N.... it will be called the iPhone Air.

More wii-like motion sensing?

Has any word anything about this rumor? details of this rumor on my blog!

But to sum it up, the new iPhone will be out in June with more wii-like controls?
I am not sure if this source is to believed so I am asking you if you have heard anything like this before? I have googled it and found nothing!

I'm not a regular poster on this forum, but I'm basing this on my own situation (an old Motorola phone and a 1st gen iPod nano, both of which I'm keen to get rid of for an iPhone), and the thing that I'm most worried about is the fact that we can think of hundreds of things we would like for the next iPhone, and which seem logical enough considering the production lines of related companies, but Apple usually hold off on a lot of things, and it makes me hope that they won't just go "OK, it's got 32GB, and it has a new camera...and that's it", just like they did with the iPhone 3G.

From February until June. That's plenty of time to put in every feature you can think of:

MMS
32GB
copy and paste
a new (possibly 3 or 5 megapixel) camera, with flash and zoom/autofocus
a front-facing camera
video calling
video recording
Flash support
a back button?
stereo Bluetooth
tethering
longer battery power
HD screen

To name but a few there. But I'm cautious. Apple could hold back on things like the camera, or the video features, as they always seem to do. I wouldn't mind if all the hardware was in place and the software available later via a download or upgrade. I just really want it to be the best device Apple can offer the market right now.

Stephen Fry said that he believed the 3rd version of the iPhone would be the best version, or the "perfect" one, and I only hope he's right.

Also, if I can get The Beatles remastered on iTunes at the same WWDC, then I'll be very happy. :p

projector

couldnt the camera have a projector like samsung is trying to do.. everyone forget or just not hear about that?

I can give you solid odds that there will never be a CDMA iphone. Apple went GSM to they could avoid having to produce multiple phones, support multiple phones etc.

now they have one phone that works almost everywhere in the world and all they have to worry about are the few countries that don't legally allow locked phones sold in their borders. Otherwise the warehouse can grab any box it wants, slap on a shipping label and not be worried that they just sent the 'china' phone to Canada.

There won't be a CDMA iPhone. CDMA is dead for the most part. Verizon is starting to roll out a new LTE (GSM) network this year, and Sprint (assuming that sprint is still alive in a few years) is going to start rolling out its WiMax network soon. GSM is the future of wireless networks. And I doubt that Apple will ever take the iPhone to Verizon, because Verizon will never bow down to Apple, the way AT&T has.

EDIT:

@ Gluben-

You seriously want a 1920x1080 resolution on a 3.5 inch screen:confused:

Don

As I've no idea of dimensions or expertise in that area, I can only go with the idea of HD. I have no knowledge of number of pixels or resolutions or whatever, so I apologise.

Snow Leopard and iPhone counterpoint

the iphone has it's own OS and will likely to continue that way.

when you examine the changes that will be made via Snow Leopard, most of them are unneeded by the iphone so considering the two as separate software makes perfect sense.

I am going to go in the opposite direction on this.

1) During its introduction, Apple talked at length about the iPhone using a fully functioning OS X variant.

2) Other rumors have talked about employing a multi-core ARM processor in the next or future versions of the iPhone and indeed the ARM11 MPCore has up to 4 cores while using less power than the current ARM processor. This added processing power makes a great deal of sense given Apple has stated in analyst calls they look to the iPod Touch and iPhone to grow as gaming platforms.

3) Apple has indicated that Snow Leopard's greatest difference will be the performance it can wring out of multiple cores/processors.

An updated iPhone & OS X variant that takes advantage of Snow Leopard's improvements and power management is a logical conclusion. One note on this, both Snow Leopard and multi-core phones could conceivably be available by June when the first group of first generation iPhone AT&T 2 year contracts begin to expire.

And I doubt that Apple will ever take the iPhone to Verizon, because Verizon will never bow down to Apple, the way AT&T has.

guess what one of the known reasons for Verizon not getting the deal. yep.

once the exclusive contract has run out, it is possible that Apple will unlock all phones and let people just buy them and take them wherever they want for service. who knows at this point

Not really. :)

At least here in the US, iPhone will not work with Sprint or Verizon and only AT&T and T-Mobile can use the device on theirs networks, but only AT&T has visual voicemail. :)
