I hope it has better safari as well. Maybe even works as an HD pocket video camera, considering its strong ties to YouTube during iPhone 1,1 initial launch. That would be clever. Simply record and upload video footage to youtube, facebook, etc right over the 3G network. Also, something I haven't uncovered yet is how to access favorited youtube videos (via the website) through the youtube application on iPhone. If this process doesn't exist now, that could also be very clever. Same is true of Google Maps' My Maps function via the website. iPhone 2,1 could allow gmail account holders to enter their gmail user and password info at application launch (stored as a cookie) and would link right into the users Google Maps website except through the Google Maps application on the phone. That way all access is seamless. Nonetheless, if you're listening R&D make us proud with one or more of these suggestions........can't wait to see what unfolds in June!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

And how do you know that?

Personal experience, for me. I have five friends with iPhones, and three friends who are Mac nuts, and want an iPhone, but hate AT&T. And they don't want to unlock a first gen iPhone either.

Then there are a few people I know who bought Blackberries simply because they've been with Sprint or Verizon for years. AT&T is a pretty good network in most places, but they have a bad stigma in many more. I'm begrudgingly using AT&T.

Careful- apple might make you take that down. TOP SECRET stuff :D

Look at what they did to the cat of the last guy who posted stuff like that

****, I did sign an NDA as I am a very, VERY important person at apple. They call me Mr. Know, as in, I know what the next iphone will look like and that is it, Steve's unveiling of it will be titled, "Bigger is Better!"

~Mr. Know

P.S. Man I am so bored right now!

9to5mac.com put it best...

This is the first signs we are seeing that the iPhones are going to be upgraded (what? you thought Apple was going to discontinue them?)

hopefully, they will be able to cover more markets with this one. I was a bit disappointed with the old one.

I hardly think it will be released in June.

Ack.

This year we'll see a 32 GB iPhone 3G and maybe a 64 GB iPod touch and OS 2.3 - maybe even 2.4 and 2.5 (in November) with some additional features like 2.1 ==> 2.2 (maybe copy & paste, modem, video). Nothing more. Sorry folks. You'll get enough amazing stuff in App Store. Jailbreakers will enjoy the upcoming bluetooth hack and additional hardware accessoires will be built only because of this hack.

Next year (2010) sooner or later (at least in June) Apple will present a new generation, perfect tested and stable iPhone with multicore CPU, multicore GPU, even more storage, brand new OS/FW 3.0 with lots of new awesome features like multitrack recording (audio), video editing, backgrounding (multitasking) etc.

Outside TV broadcasting in your shirt's pocket, maybe with high definition. I can't await it but it will be there. Just need to be patient.

Just my two Eurocents.

Why don't people get someone to MMS to YOUR BLOODY EMAIL ADDRESS? MMS works if people send it to your email. Just tell your friends. It's not a hard thing to do. You can also reply that way.

BECAUSE IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK.

Also, do you seriously expect ALL of your friends to do this every single time? I surely don't. Btw, I thought Apple was all about the user experience. If the user experience for MMS on the iPhone is this ridiculous method, then wouldn't you consider this contrary to Apple's mantra? Besides, it's BEYOND stupid that the iPhone doesn't have MMS.

However, I'm willing to let MMS go if Apple would just add Copy and Paste. Please, for the love of all things, add copy and paste.

While competitors try to recreate a "me too" device by copying the iPhone in its current iteration, Apple is (hopefully) working on packing their next generation models with proprietary power efficient Multi-Core CPUs and GPUs. While Tim Cook stated that Apple's advantage is that they look at the iPhone as a software platform before a hardware platform, this statement may be another one of Apple's clever deterrents while they blindside the copy cat competition.

Yes I agree, but making those upgrades to the phone is directly related to the software when you throw Snow Leopard into the picture and how that will propel the app store to a new level of software!

Sounds like this will be the iPhone that really takes on video too. Video capture, better camera, and iChat finally. All of it makes sense with what Apple is doing with Snow Leopard and the chips they are working on for the iPhone etc. I am very excited :D

Anyone who doesn't agree that this is beyond stupid and actually tries to justify apple's reasoning is a complete fanboy. You should put COMPLETE FANBOY in your signature so those who are just browsing through the site won't be fooled.

I guess the real question is: new iPhone or iPhone nano?

If it's a update to the regular iPhone then I'll be selling my 3G as soon as it comes out (unlocked, that way I'll get more cash! :p)
If it is an iPhone nano, it would be "iPhone1,1" again. That is because iPod touch (first generation) is "iPod1,1" but not "iPod6,1" or "iPod7,1".

Will the new iphone use "snow leopard" or the infamous " camel-toe" OS that was proposed a few years back but never gained much steam due to its offensive name and inferior hybrid technology with 10.4 tiger. I've seen alot of wierd stuff around apple campus lately so I thought I would ask.

I don't know when the next iPhone will go on sale but if I had to guess I would say anytime from July to christmas. My reason is that lots of people who bought the 3G iPhone when it went on sale in July 08 will be able to upgrade from December/Januray (at least in the UK). If Apple don't have a new handset on sale for these people then a lot of them will upgrade to another handset and Apple will have to wait another 18 months to get them back.

In France Orange started to do a 12 month iPhone contract I think in November 08. So If you bought that you will be able to upgrade around the same time.

Alex

I still think the new iPhone coming this summer will look almost like the current model, but will add these new features:

1) Application cut-and-paste (long overdue!).

2) Landscape mode operation for touchscreen keyboard.

3) Haptic touch response on touchscreen that works way better than the Blackberry Storm.

4) 16 and 32 GB storage capacity as the new standard.

We might see the addition of full Bluetooth support so the new iPhone can accommodate wireless headsets.

The non-phone iPod touch will go to 32 GB and 64 GB storage capacity when it is refreshed in September 2009. :)

We will not get MMS or Copy/Paste because we don't need them. Even if we think we do, you have to remember that Steve knows best.

It is pointless to speculate on what you want the new iphone to have, because you really won't know what you want until Steve tells you.

The most important thing that needs updating is a cosmetic change. It is vital that anyone with a first or second generation iphone be able to be identified at a distance as not having enough money to buy the new one. Otherwise why would anyone want to buy the new one.

Its like the old Henry Ford quote.. if he had asked his customers what they wanted, they would have asked for a faster horse. Have faith, and apple will provide.

That said, it is drastically important that the new iphone be on sale by June 29th, 2009 or people will re-sign their contracts with whatever the new shiny is, like the mentally handicapped little raccoons we all are.
