...at least I think so! :) if you already knew, well...sorry!

On the iPhone 6s, 3d Touch can be used for text selection. Just force touch a word in the Notes App to select it. You can then drag your finger on the following text to continue selecting. This is triggered by the force of your finger. If you don't press but just rest the finger it will not work.
In safari it''s still a bit erratic and not so well refined. For example if you select a single word the magnifying lens, which is not needed in this situation, will appear for a brief moment.
It's still nice.

Pretty cool! Thanks

Hmmm, can't select any text in this thread?

edit: Turned off ad blocker & popup blocker in Safari and I can now select text in the old way, and drag the bars to select more...

Still no 3D/force whatever feedback highlighting/selecting?

No. :) I'm talking about something completely different. Text selection when there's no keyboard on the screen, like on a web page that you are just reading. If you read again what I wrote, I said "force touch a word" not "force touch the keyboard"
Either I'm not comprehending or it has been removed in 9.1. When I press on a word in a Safari page it doesn't 3D Touch/Haptic at all. It just highlights the word and if I drag the highlight moves to the next word (only).

That's what I get on 9.0.2 now, after disabling popup & ad blockers.

It works for me with 9.1 beta 3.
It won't give you a "haptic feedback" or anything, but if you press harder while selecting and than move your finger to the next words, it will select that additional words (and not just the last word you are pressing).

thanks op for that info. i didn't know before.

Same here. What the OP is saying does not wok on my 6s Plus.

Just broke my glass. Should I press even harder?

OT beta 3 question: Are you missing the mic dictation key?

I'm able to do it. It works sort of like selecting text through the keyboard/touchpad. I hold down on a word until it highlights, and then I let up the pressure a bit (without taking my finger off) and then I press a little harder. I can now move my finger and the text selection continues to follow my finger (not just moving from word to word, but encompassing all words i drag along). There is no haptic feedback. Hope this helps.

Even easier to see inside the note app:
Type a word, like Hello
1) touch it: nothing happens (well, the cursor is moved at the end or beginning of the word and you get a popup)
2) long touch it: you can move the cursor position inside the word
3) force touch it: you select the word

:)

Once the word is selected, THEN push and drag.cyou will not feel haptic feedback.

Ou sir! You are the man, that's how it works! I thought it was still a bit buggy on the drag part, but no, this way it works perfectly. On the Notes App you don't need to do that. You can simply force touch the word and start moving your finger

I think this is an iOS 9 feature and NOT 3D Touch. I have been using it so long on my 5S and iPad Air the I did not understand it was new to iOS.

Force Touch Select Tip #2

Force Touch Keyboard brings up the "Cursor Mode". But DOUBLE Force Touch (double-tap without lifting finger) and you are now SELECTING text.

Nope, doesn't work on iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 :)

I was pretty confused about how this was different than regular text selection at first, but I can see why this is better. I force touch a word let out a little and then force touch harder again and I can select text without my finger ever leaving the screen
