Same here. What the OP is saying does not wok on my 6s Plus.

works on my 6+ and its defiantly different than the old method of dragging the ends
Not sure this is a 3D Touch feature as there is no haptic feedback.

Not all 3D Touch features have haptic feedback. The display being able to recognize different levels of force applied to the screen is 3D Touch, and it is not possible on any other devices outside of the 6S and 6S Plus.

This is 100% a 3d touch feature: if you don't apply force you can't start dragging, no matter how much time you hold your finder there. ;)
Beside, not every 3D Touch interaction have haptic feedback. For example, trackpad mode on the keybord has no feedback.

I don't know, I get the same actions whether I press hard enough for 3D Touch to activate or not. Can't tell any 3D Touch by doing this. It's the only 3D Touch that I can't replicate.
Maybe it's because I'm running 9.1 public beta 3?

This is definitely 3D Touch and it's an undocumented feature. Very nice find.

Trackpad mode on the keyboard does make a haptic click.

...at least I think so! :) if you already knew, well...sorry!

On the iPhone 6s, 3d Touch can be used for text selection. Just force touch a word in the Notes App to select it. You can then drag your finger on the following text to continue selecting. This is triggered by the force of your finger. If you don't press but just rest the finger it will not work.
In safari it''s still a bit erratic and not so well refined. For example if you select a single word the magnifying lens, which is not needed in this situation, will appear for a brief moment.
It's still nice.
Force Touch Select Tip #2

Force Touch Keyboard brings up the "Cursor Mode". But DOUBLE Force Touch (double-tap without lifting finger) and you are now SELECTING text.
Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for all the tips. I knew of this stuff but could not get moving just the cursor to work, was doing it wrong. I now have two ways to do this. Just the cursor moving is worth the upgrade to me.

There's a real lack of good documentation about how to properly use the trackpad feature. I did a little research and got the hang of it, and now it's slick and mostly flawless. Would like to see someone produce a better video and for more people to get to see it.

The trick is you are only pressing hard for a half a second. Imagine you're resting your finger on a mouse button, and you press down to do a mouse click, then release, but never lift your finger off. It's much like that. But you have to start off with a firm press so that they keyboard knows you are not trying to type. After that, it's glide around lightly, quick and brief pressure to activate modes, release pressure and glide around again.

does ios 9.0.2 have the feature where the keyboard turns into a trackpad? if so, is anyone else having trouble getting it to work?

I'm not sure if this has been posted here, but if you apply force on the edge of the screen, it brings you the app switch. Like when you double click the home button.

That's odd that some are getting it and some aren't. I'm on a 6S, are you using a 6S of 6S+? Maybe that's the difference...
I'm on a 6S plus. Just to clarify, I don't get the haptic feedback when I'm selecting text on a webpage. I only get it when I press the keyboard when I'm editing text.

Do you get it when you activate siri? Must be a bug with the 6S. I don't get it when editing text with 3D touch on keyboard to enable cursor selection
