5k Calories a day? Or 5k Steps? the later indicates pure laziness
5Km+ running session a day, that’s what the commenter before me was also referring to.
That’s the minimum needed for me to fill up the 630 calories daily red circle for me (but a lot less than the 45min daily green circle so either have to continue or append something else). Stills feel lazy for myself though, been doing it 60 days straight since I got the watch, so could definitely raise those targets. I won’t yet.

lol what about Wyoming screams glossy and trendy fitness to you? And how does one lure well liked social media based fitness instructors to Wyoming? Job location is going to be a huge lure when attracting instructors.
Neither was Texas for a long time, but now Californians can’t load their U-Hauls fast enough.

Something must be wired differently in their brains to exercise that much over a life long period in time.
Humans are wired to want the neurotransmitters that exercise produces. These bind to the brain receptors that regulate pain, hormone release, and feelings of well-being. Heroin and other drugs do the same thing. These receptors release dopamine which reinforces the desire for the behavior, be it exercise or drugs.

then pick a fitness facility - I did and it’s been closed since October last year where I live. ALL gyms are due to lock down.

curious if gyms are open where you live, I’m guessing not since you’re in this thread though right?
Wow. I feel very bad that you live somewhere where your gym has been closed that long. Even my city is liberals and all the gyms are open.

A lot of people said the same thing about the Apple Watch, iPad, iPhone, and App Stores. But Apple does their research and knows subscription services are the future big money makers. The products get people in the door, but the subscriptions make the profits. It is telling that most of Amazon's profits come from Amazon Web Services with monthly and time of use fees, and not from selling goods online.
Plus since the pandemic, at-home fitness has been HUGE. I have always gone to the gym, enjoyed going to the gym, but I have my own treadmill, bike, weights, and yoga equipment and I like Fitness+ so much that I don’t see the need for my gym membership much anymore. (I have a rowing machine being delivered this week!)

I also think it’s a big market for people who are too shy or insecure to go to the gym where they feel it might be full of meatheads or super fit people walking around in sports bras or something. Or people who need to get in shape but have no clue what they’re doing and are afraid to go to the gym for that reason (and can’t afford/don’t want a personal trainer).

Fine. But what the heck are the instructors wearing? Isn’t there a line of Apple Fitness+ workout clothing yet?

And why is it that when I’m typing “apple fitness” my iOS AI offers a capitalized “Apple” but doesn’t offer a capitalized “fitness” and add a “+” for me?
They’re all wearing Nike. Presumably because of the existing Apple and Nike partnership. Some of the trainers also previously worked with Nike.

Yeah it sucks.

Yet I have built up an adequate home gym and can workout any time - less the travel to the gym. There are specific exercises I cannot do at home, but when gyms open up ... I'm back in it full time.

Apple Fitness+ designers failed to recognize that the people most likely to enter into a program such as Apple Fitness+ are people who have been into fitness for a long time
I don't think this is accurate. Most likely it aims for Watch owners who want to have fitness routine. Many will be for the first time.

wait 5Km is 630 calories?? That somehow doesn’t seem right?

I think Gyms will be a thing of the past. Covid19 will transform many industries! My company thinks about shutting offices permanently. Many friends now own a Peloton indoor cycle and built their own at home gym. In the long term this is will be cheaper than going to the gym and also it is more intimate working out at home. Quiet nice actually.

Depends on your size, weight, age and gender. For a 25yo, 165kg man, that's about right. Mind you, that's got to be hard on the knees! For me personally a 5km run burns around 250cal.

But perhaps they mean that a 5km run on top of incidental exercise throughout the day gets them to their 630cal move goal.

Overweight people should NEVER jog! That is the death. I literally strolled off my weight.
Yes it takes more time of the day but it is soft and your body accepts it. Furthermore I believe, that jogging is an invention and not the natural instinct of an human.

I can recommend 20 000 steps per day as "fixed star" of weight loss journey.

Actually that’s correct, it isn’t right.
Took a look and here’s how a day tends to looks like:

1615293410662.jpeg

If it is the usual, that’s a somewhat mild pushing jog, followed by quite a bit of fast walking around (for going back and towards two mins quick groceries) and most probably some 10 to 15mins squats/pull-ups/push-ups/dumbbells/etc. By the start time there’s some 50 to 150 cal burnt for free (I guess it detects fast moving around) and when finishing jogging the red ring is usually comfortably closed.

I guess it depends on the weight, a couple of years ago at 88Kg running 5K on a treadmill would report a lot of burning calories, close to 600 (and most probably overshot). The watch also has this concept of “active” and “total” calories of an exercise, total being somewhat higher. So maybe it’s a bit more lenient at counting the calories away if it counts the total ones on that ring.

whaa?
Running is a natural instinct of humans. Not just from sport, flight or fright. At 8 moths old I watched my son run! Not walk, run!! He kept doing that until 16mths old and every time laughing too. It’s very natural for people to do

It’s cool but I can’t help feel apple is wasting money here
Are you kidding? Look at their setup, for the salaries of just a few trainers and a few people behind the scenes they are pumping out hours of content and getting millions of people around the world to pay between $8-10 a month. And unlike hardware this content never expires, costs nothing to store, and can be sold to people on a monthly recurring basis.

You could make the argument that perhaps they shouldn't focus on such an endeavor but to say they're wasting money is ridiculous. I bet they are making money hand over fist with this thing.

I hate it that they always have a grin on their faces. So unnatural...
Some people really love working out and it's what gets them excited in life. I know some of these people and can tell you that their smiles are completely normal. They're freaks of nature but it's completely normal.

I agree with your reasoning but will likely return to the gym sometime in summer after most people are vaccinated. Our gym/sports club has been mostly shut down since March 2020. I am kind of surprised that they are still in business. But they extended our 2020 membership until mid-2022, so I will probably go back.

I wish I had the space for the equipment you have. I have been doing hill running and workouts in the park instead. But I have not lifted a free weight in over a year. I miss it. And I might start swimming laps in their pools since chlorinated water kills most viruses.

Except it does. A few of my treadmill sessions are now "Indoor Run Open Goal" workouts, and the Burn Bar data etc. has been wiped.

IMG_3941.jpeg

I've been exclusively using Fitness+ treadmill workouts since December, so there's no way I've done an indoor run open goal. The content has been removed by Apple, and is no longer available to choose as a workout. They didn't ask; they just went ahead and did it.

Exercise releases Endorphins and/or Endocannabinoids. That might explain the smiles.

I think it’s a wasted endeavor, cringy too. The fake enthusiasm in the videos is offputting, is this a subscription service to buns of steal from the 90’s? The strength class is weak.

People should go to the gym for a real workout. Not pay Apple every month to do subpar workouts at home. There are already thousands of videos for every workout, and free - on the internet.

You can’t use the service if you don’t own an Apple Watch.

Another thing, what’s the point of classes if you can simply ignore them without consequence?

I feel this is more companies preying on peoples laziness.
