I mean, it is what it is. I managed to break my iPhone 15 Pro Max twice in its life cycle. Both times breaking the glass from a very short fall. And for a $99 replacement fee, that isn’t that much more than one of Apple's cases, so if you have Apple Care+, I don’t see this being a huge issue tbh.

1. I don't buy Apple cases, they're overpriced junk. My TineeOwl case cost less than $15.

2. People tend to forget that not everybody lives right next door to an Apple Store. My nearest one is 160 miles away, so in addition to that $99 replacement fee, tack on a full tank of gasoline and 8-9 hours of a day wasted.

It's nice that AC+ is there if I need it because I royally screwed up, but it's a lot cheaper and less hassle for me to use a case on my phone in the first place and 99% of those drops are no problem at all.

Agreed, the photo looks sketchy. It looks like the alu chassis (antenna line), but the chassis looks like it has some rubber coating. Like a mm or so was scraped off. You wouldn’t see that on a real anodized Ali chassis.

Whatever, slap a case on it. Move on.

This is a hilarious tin foil hat take

This is the original source:

OP just screen grabbed the video, around the 7:41 mark the creator Andy To shows the damage and even plays the video clip of the phone tipping over as it fell during recording

Yes, aluminum is soft and malleable so will be more susceptible to this kind of damage. No conspiracies here

I was hunting through my youtube history of iphone 17 videos from this morning to post the 'mysterious' source people were asking for. Clearly you're in on this conspiracy, the pixels don't lie!!! :D

If this is real, (EDIT: It is real) I’d say that the picture (and video) shows mild damage considering the tripod took the phone down with it on an arc onto concrete stairs. If that happened to an iPhone from years ago then it would’ve been toast. I’d argue that this actually shows that Apple designed a little bit of a crumple zone around the edges of the Pro design for moments like this. Kinda like automotive chassis.

All I could think while watching is, “Damn, that orange looks fantastic!!” Glad I went with it.

Thanks for finding and posting! I’ve been afk. Coming back to this thread was kind of surprising, especially loved the photoshop conspiracy 😂

Wonder how all of the Pro owners are gonna feel walking around with a shriveled orange rind while my Air is still shiny and new? Three rear cameras can’t save you from gashed corners.
But a case can! I’ve never had a desire to use any iPhone without a case. I’ve only owned iPhones since 2007 and I’ve only had precisely one incident of damage—years ago my phone, in a case, fell out of my pocket while gardening and the screen hit the corner of a concrete front step. Fixed the next day thanks to AppleCare.

So I need a $79 case to protect my $1200 phone from looking worse than the moldy mandarin oranges that I find in my produce basket when my kids forget about them? Hard pass. I’ll take the premium phone made with titanium. 💅💅💅
The case I ordered for my 17PM was $40, but the case currently on my 16PM was $3 from Temu and has offered solid protection. iPhone user since 2007 and I’ve never had a desire to go caseless.

I actually used the OG and 3GS caseless.

I didn't start using cases until the 4. The edges were digging in to my palms plus Apple was giving away free bumpers/cases.

On the plus side, my iPhone 16 Plus is now like an iPhone 16 Pro Plus ;)
One primary reason I’m keeping my iPhone 16 Pro Max is the premium look and feel of Titanium.

Apple’s marketing department can justify anything, they are the masters with words.

History proves their primary goal is to maximize profits by any means and cater to their shareholders.

I cannot believe they are still using trash aluminum on a $1100/$1200 phone and continue to call it “Pro”. Pro used to be the best of the best, now it’s being overshadowed by the less expensive Air. Which is using PREMIUM materials! Tim Apple pinching pennies again. Sad.
They really should go all the way back to stainless steel frame, making iPhone 18 Pro Max the first flagship mobile phone that exceeded 300 grams.

That's the "PRO" and "PREMIUM" we are talking about.

If this doesn’t matter because people will put a stupid case on their phone, then… In all these stress benchmarks the phones should have a case put it on. Right?… And with that, all the magic thermal thing… ciao ciao
No no no, rubber and plastic are excellent conductors of heat

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That was obvious from the second Apple announced the phones, aluminium is a good thermal conductor and cheaper but titanium has a better strength to weight (and volume) ratio. There’s a reason why the Air uses titanium.

Anecdotally I see the results in my Apple devices, the aluminium ones gets nicks and dents from very small impacts while the titanium ones have bounced on concrete and show no damage.
