So, uhh... how much have you paid in applecare in total, without having made a single claim? Would have been better off saving that money and investing it. Of course it's "insurance" and you never know, but insurance works in favor of apple... and plus you have a "deductible" for a claim anyway.
All great points, I totally could self-insure. But take a look at this.

I don’t have AC+ on my current 12PM— I canceled it after I paid off the phone and left iUP. Since I upgraded every year during, I paid half of a 2-year plan (monthly). So if my math is correct:
Device2-yr AC+1-yr share on iUP
iPhone 6s Plus (2015)$129$129 / 2 = $64.50
iPhone 7 Plus (2016)$129$129 / 2 = $64.50
iPhone X (2017)$199$149 / 2 = $74.50
iPhone XS Max (2018)$199$199 / 2 = $99.50
iPhone 11 Pro Max (2019)$199$199 / 2 = $99.50
iPhone 12 Pro Max (2020)$199N/A

Total before tax = $626.50.

It buys me the peace of mind and assurance that I can generally walk into any Apple Store and get my phone serviced by the Genius Bar using Apple parts and processes. I don’t think that’s half bad.

There is no titanium phone, and there is no aluminum phone. Therer are iPhones with titanium alloys and aluminum alloys, which are not the same thing as pure titanium and pure aluminum, so such comparisons are kinda meaningless without more specifics. For example, grade 1 titanium is softer than 6061-T6 aluminum.

As for this picture and all the whining...buy a $20 case and call it a day.
More specifically, iPhones use Grade 5 titanium, and 7000 Series Aluminum.
So, let's compare hardness between the specific ALLOYS that Apple is using:

Grade 5 Titanium: ~30 HRC Rockwell C
7000 Series Aluminum: ~6 HRC Rockwell C (converted from Rockwell B)

So even with specifics, the aluminum phones are going to be FAR less durable than the titanium phones.

They have though in comparison steel and titanium and pretty darn tough. Aluminum is not.
Previous phones still have a glass front and back which are both prone to cracks. Trust me, I have seen plenty Titanium phones with scuffed sides and cracked glass. There’s no iPhone I would be happy to use caseless because they’re all fragile as they’re only as strong as their weakest component.

Not totally surprised. The Pro phones look comparatively more like a toy this year. Less premium indeed.

I don't know a single person who does not put a case on their iPhone tbh. The biggest issue will be chips from dust and debris getting inside the case and rubbing the finish off. That happened to the iPhone 12 I use as a works phone and my blue iPhone 12 I had from new had some damage this way after a couple of years. Still, it would be even worse without a case.
I have gone caseless with every phone I’ve ever had, including iPhones starting with the iPhone 4. Two of my friends are also caseless iPhone users.

With the iPhone 16 Pro, I started using the Apple silicone case only when I go to concerts, solely because it gives me better grip to use the camera control button easier while holding it one-handed. But any other time, it’s naked.

Case prevents that. Always wondered how anyone on yearly trade in plan could possibly go without case. I use a clear case (Spigen Ultra Hybrid) so i can see phone as when i drop it nothing happens.
Seeing is not the same as feeling. Cases and screen protectors completely ruin the feel and the aesthetic of a phone.

Phones are engineered to not need these things. I never understand why people obsess over them. “Resale value” come on 👎🏻 no way. Why would you want to ensure the next person enjoys your phone more than you did?

Purely opinion. I prefer the feel and the aesthetic of my phones in a case, and I enjoy my phone more that way. Naked phones are too thin, too slippery, and I don't like the look either.

For you. And that is okay. A case enhances my experience with a phone, and I hope you think that is okay too.

I'll say again that an uncased phone is like a greased peeled potato. Some of us don't have the dexterity we had when we were 25. I'll be 71 soon.

I was a lot more YOLO at 25. If iPhones had existed then, I would've had to put it in full-on armor to keep from destroying it. 😆

I actually did have a 3GS at 25. No case. It had rounded edges with a kind of humped back and felt pretty comfortable in-hand. It’s the last iPhone I used caseless.

Oh wait, I bought a 5c to use as a travel phone and I used that caseless, too. That felt pretty comfy in-hand as well.

You guys are pretty hilarious. Don’t forget that flagship iPhones between 2012 to 2016 were made of aluminium. If you want drop protection, that’s what cases and bumpers are made for. People are already using cases on iPhones with steel chassis anyway.
