WOW!

All of these posts and not a single suggestion. Perhaps your friend is right?

As more days go by, it seems more is revealed to support his position.

I cant tell anymore who is being deluded but I have 7 days left to decide.

I provided a link which shows microscopically what is going on in "retina" versus other products but apparently that wasn't helpful enough. Maybe I was expected to write an actual diatribe to be reused.

Fact of the matter is, who cares? Tech is all down to what the user wants and enjoys. What my friends think of my choice in tablet is meaningless to my experience with it.

Getting there: my friend has agreed to a shoot out. We will each present samples, and there will be three (hopefully) unbiased judges. I will use one from iBlue- thank you!

( Now Mac Jones I am sorry, the pix you PM-ed me is just too...small and ugly, and no, I am sorry, I do not want to "hook up" with you, sorry again , please don't take offense)

How do you know i'm a male ? ;)

No EarlZ... I just really want to have some fun with my new iPad and do some (maybe unseemly) showing- off. For F's sake...don't you know how to have a good time?

..../me thinks there is something wrong with you

I dont know if your being sarcastic or not, but need to show it off to have fun

@mac jones

I had no idea that you were.

(Perhaps that would intrigue me even more :) )

But let's see you prove it, k?

@earlz

Golly... I mean like having fun. As in light-hearted joviality . This is not the United Nations, nor is this The Hague's Crimes Against Huminity.

...I meant: here we are, friends together, but let me show you my new toy!

What is wrong with you guys?

One word. Pong.

Your welcome.

No no you are all being way too serious.

I am Original Poster here, and all I want is a couple of drop-dead gorgeous sites/pages I can bring up at a moments notice when we are having a gin and tonic at the bar and say: "Oh yeah? Just look at THIS." and kinda rub his nose in it....

....in other words, what looks really good and kick-ass in an immediate and simple demo?

Take your iPad and smack the guy upside the head with it a couple of times. That will leave an impression.

You're on the Internet, you're going to get harsh responses.

Good luck with your quest. The sort of person you describe is unlikely to be convinced with a demonstration, they'll just dismiss it and leave you more frustrated than you started.

Feeling like you need to prove someone "wrong" based on their beliefs and feelings just makes you as ignorant as they are. My advice, don't waste your time trying to convince him the iPad is awesome.. It's awesome to you, obviously not to him.

Honestly though, he sounds like he's pushing your buttons on purpose and getting you riled up for fun. I know people like this.

I thought the iPad was an overhyped toy when it first came out, now my wife and I both have one (64GB iPad 2s). If you're happy with your iPad, why feel the need to 'prove' anything? Let your friend wander aimlessly in the dark. ;)

OMG! The replies here are unbelievable! The OP just wants to have a little fun with his friend. There is nothing wrong with a little competition people. Maybe we have all lost that... I don't know.

So OP, I honestly don't think you have to show him much much more than daily use. Load up Flipboard or something to show perfectly clear text and inline video. It wouldn't work at a bar, but if you have AppleTV, stream some video. If you have ios iPhoto, edit some photos.

To me, it's the amazing everyday uses that prove the iPad is relevant and superior to other tablets. But if I come across something stupid cool I'll post back.

i don't see why you feel you need to prove the ipad's superiority to him. i'd just let him ramble on. i'd tell him that he doesn't know jack about he's taking about, while laughing in his face and on the inside too.

best way to handle these types.

I have a snooty, snotty, snobby friend who- although he doesn't know beans about anything- claims the new iPad is a way overhyped toy, and that the Retina Display is all in our deluded minds and is totally worthless.

...I need ONE drop-dead demo, or some easily brought up kick-ass screens, that will knock his arrogant insufferable ass for a loop. He is also quite impatient, so it has gotta be something instantly snatchable on regular 3G)

I sooo want to smoosh his nose in, and it will be my very first show-off with my new 32G Verizon. Suggestions, please!

Your evidence is a scientific article?

I'm fully convinced that most iPad owners spend more time talking about their iPad than actually using it. (similar to how most people bragged about how incredibleiMovie and Garage Band are yet they have no finished projects to actually show off.)

the ipad is a toy. Big ipod touch. Big app launcher.

"wow, the ipad is so fast and smooth"

Question: what does it actually do which is in any way resource intensive? Shifting those icons from left to right. strenuous.

----------

"wow, the web browser is so fast"

question: what is it actually loading up which isn't text and pictures?

another thought to consider: The SGS2's browser is still faster and renders flash

Save your valuable time and energy for other things. Advisably something more productive to your own person.

You'll almost never change these sort of minds. When the entire world is benefitting from a new tech and he/she's struggling to understand it, that's their problem - not yours.

Is it possible your friend has some intelligence and just playing with you? If so, he could be aware that the trend in the near future is to merge tablet and laptop functionality at a reasonable price point. Microsoft is hoping to do that in time for the x-mas holidays with Windows 8 using IBM, Dell, and Asus ultrabook hardware. Content creation and consumption in one thin and light device.

Here is a link to the IBM Yoga.

So the next generation iPad may be a redesigned Macbook Air with a retina screen; making the current iPad, (should I say), more like a toy.
