Got one yesterday. Don't hate it but I am not sure it is worth the extra cost. I have a feeling that over the long run, the apps that are offered may make me feel better about spending the money. Especially if a an Apple Movie service (ala Netflix), TV service (with locals and good channel choices) and who knows what else add to the experience. Fingers crossed.

I'm was really on the fence about ordering one, as my aTV3 with PlexConnect does pretty much everything I want and I wasn't expecting a Plex app on day one.
Whilst there is lots of room for improvement, I think those shouting about sending it back on Monday are being somewhat harsh and its no where near that bad. It's a step up from the aTV3 and the potential now it has an App Store is huge. I'd bet before Christmas there are some really great apps available, doing a lot more than the previous model could.
I'm sure some people just like to say they got one on launch day and are looking for any reason to return. Apple really should review its no quibble returns policy where the justification is I've just changed my mind. People should have expected some day 1 issues and be prepared to give it a few updates, not looking for excuses to return within 14 days.

No.. I think some people just feel like they look like experts if they tear the thing apart on day-one. Or, maybe, they think they are "too cool" to be stoked about it.

Oh, this is a novel idea on here, positivity. Wait, where am I?
I love my Apple TV, is it perfect? Not yet. But for a 1.0 entry in an Apple product line (Not counting Apple TV 1-3, because this is a big departure and the software is 1.0 (yeah, 9.0 but that's 1.0 😀) scuse my medicated waffling,) it's doing pretty darn good.
Looking forward to the next couple of years with it.
And the wife, well, she's just ecstatically overjoyed that we have one, no really, honest. Ok, I bought her a handbag 😛

The old Apple TV was like the Stone Age in comparison.
There are some things to get used to and be upgraded but with any new OS that happens.
Amazon' iOS App uses AirPlay, so that restriction isn't as much of an annoyance. I suspect Amazon will get their act together and release an app before too long. The upcoming Plex app will be nice too.
Overall the new processor makes a huge difference, everything works smoothly with little to no lag, and AirPlay is free of all the previous streaming bugs.

Like many here I've been waiting for this upgrade forever. I'm very happy about the ATV4. More RAM, better network connectivity, more storage, the evolution of the device into a genuine platform that can integrate with Apple's whole ecosystem... Win win as far as I can see. I bought two.
And the evolution of this device is where the real excitement lies. Steve Jobs' plan to supplant the cable box may have failed, but Apple doesn't need it if they do the Apple Music thing to the iTunes Movie and TV stores. A flat rate streaming plan would go 90% of the way to the ideal and if Apple can wrangle the local networks into participating it'll be the ultimate cable cutter.
Now, obviously Comcast has a vested interest in not allowing this to happen, but the fact of the matter is that it's an increasingly forgone conclusion with each passing day. The distribution of content and bandwidth is not going to be built on the back of a network of cables. The writing is on the wall. In my opinion Apple will roll out a CONTENT service for this thing within the next two years at the most. Either as a streaming version of their iTunes video catalogue or by buying Netflix, Hulu or similar.

It'll come, I don't think Apple is going to hang around sorting out the kinks in this one.
I'm loving the new apple tv. so much quicker! The fast forward actually works with no buffering. I think siri works pretty nicely and will only get better. Jumping straight to hulu or netflix etc. is so convenient with siri (you just have to know what you want to watch).
My question is, why would you want to close down apps? I noticed you can hit the home button twice to see what is open, but why close them? With them open will it actually slow down the unit?

Obviously. We're only seeing the tip of the iceburg right now. Apple has been working on TV as an emerging market for many years now. The release of the AppleTV 4 signals their move to dive in full force. It's no longer a hobby. Look at Apple.com. TV has its own tab now. That says a lot.

Leaving them open won't impact performance. It's iOS. It manages RAM dynamically, just like on iPhones and iPads.

Is it? Remember the first iPhone? The first iPod?
The feature set is limited for a reason. They're launching this as a platform, not just a streamer. They need to make sure that what it DOES do it does well. They can't afford to have a buggy, crashy box when the spotlight is directly on it. As per their nominal strategy, they start extra conservative and roll out added functionality as they go along.
As to "they were going to release this last year" goes, we already know why it was in limbo. Apple was unable to get CONTENT agreements in place to make the ATV4 a cable box replacement. Rather than continuing to wait for executives at Disney, NBC Universal, CBS etc. to get on board they released the hardware and continue to negotiate around a forthcoming content service.
What would be inexcusable would be forcing customers like me to limp along on three year old hardware for the foreseeable future.
No.. Just whining. I get less of it from my two year old than I have seen in this forum today.
This IS Apple we are talking about.. Not Microsoft or Android.

Works perfect for me. Yes, it gives the cheapest (Neflix, HBO, Showtime, Hulu) as the default. What I found strange but I liked it was that when I had a movie that I purchase on iTunes it actually made that selection the default over one of the others since it was FREE to watch on all but picked iTunes to watch it. I felt that was pretty cool. To be fair I have only done limited testing to see how it works. But love it so far.
